Alternatives to Starbucks - good places to drink coffee in and around central London?

Monmouth Coffee shop in Covent Garden is a great place to get good coffee. They also DO NOT burn their coffee like other places I could mention .....

Enjoy .....

Going to be in Bordeaux for a long weekend soon, and was wondering if anyone can give me some recommendations for some good places to eat and drink.

I've heard god things about La Tupina as it serves traditional food from the region, and that's what I enjoy most........

Great Food in Singapore

Hi,

Recently left Singapore after a few days of non stop eating. Well you know how it is.

But two places that stand out better than all the rest, are two local places. One is within 50 metres of China Town MTR station, called the Morning Bah Kut Tea stall. It is within an estate. It seems to have been there for an age but still serves the best breakfast ever. Lots of offal and ribs are on offer.
The other is in the Pek Kio Market and Food Centre. Again based within an estate but also has a fantastic fresh produce market there also.

Both places we went there for breakfast. Both were cheap, both served good food, both had a great atmosphere. Both were frequented by local Singaporeans only.

You can read more of them at the following links :

If you get a chance I recommend you go. If you do or have been, I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences there.

Water Margin and Yellow Door Kitchen

Hi,

Has anybody eaten at either Water Margin or The Yellow Door Kitchen?

We have eaten at Hutong a few years ago. So kinda know the experience we will get at Water Margin, but was wondering how the food is.

Have heard dribs and drabs of the Yellow Door Kitchen but nothing concrete.

Or does someone know of another Private Kitchen we could goto?

Best egg tarts in Hong Kong?

Had to return back to Tai Cheong and had an assortment.
The doughnuts are really good. But would have loved some filling inside. Guess I'm just used to that.
The white custard tarts i found to be very salty and well not really nice. Not really into egg whites.
While the normal egg custard tarts were fab. Great sweet shortcrust pastry, well cooked and a slight wobble on the custard itself. Great.
On Aberdeen Street there is also the Yu Yan Bakery which sells the 2nd best tarts we have found so far.
We are still looking....
Wanchai next ....

Cooking Schools in Chiang Mai?

Hiya,

I was considering on doing a cooking course in the CMTCS. I did have some doubts as the school is pretty big, and had heard class sizes were rather large. ie over 20. But after reading the post about it earlier, I am now having serious 2nd thoughts.

Does anyone know the up to date situation with the CMTCS? Is it as bad as was said?

Also does anyone know of a good small school in Chiang Mai where it is all hands on?

Thanks for any help

Hi,

For some great no nonsense food, goto St John's Bread and Wine in Farringdon. Excellent food. The chef Fergus Henderson is into Nose to Tail Eating.
Check out the website.
