Any East Coast style Chinese food in Seattle?
I gave up trying to find New England Chinese food years ago. Now I just make my own.
New England top split hot dog buns
Tripoli's will ship!!!!!!
We've been ordering about once a year for the last 5. It ain't cheap but totally worth it to us. The number of the Lawrence store is (978) 682-7754.
And I second the Net Grocer for the hot dog rolls. We get several items from there each year. Things like Cheez Doodles, Drakes coffee cakes, Heinz sweet relish, Fluff, and Munchos potato chips can all be found there. For Habitat Pea Soup we use Home Town Favorites. For Mallow Cups and SkyBars, Candy You Ate As a Kid has the freshest stock.
looking to send care package to friend in uk . . .
I send one friend grape jelly and Oreos. (Hopefully she doesn't eat them together.)
The best thing your school cafeteria served
I, too, grew up in New England. Only it was so long ago that we couldn't have had meatball sub on Friday. Friday was still ruled by the Catholic churches so fish and pizza only. No meat.
My favorite was the bacon burger. It wasn't a hamburger with bacon but some kind of patty. No idea what it was but I still crave them. :)
My least favorite was chicken salad. It made me sick once in 4th grade and I've never eaten it again since. (And that was in 1973.) LOL.
haagen dasz pints now 14 fl ozs
"Half-gallons" haven't been half-gallons in years.
The only advantage I can see is the calorie savings for those of us that eat the whole thing in one serving rather than suggested 4. LOL.
Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier, Kittery Point, ME - June 2009 report
I've never stopped at this place but gone by it a hundred times. It's so close to one of my favorite places in New England. Fort Foster Park! Can not count the number of wonderful days I've spent there over my lifetime.
What makes a hot dog YOUR top dog?
I'm still a kid at heart. I just want ketchup on my hot dog.
Although, it is only really good when on a toasted New England style hot dog roll. (I order mine on-line since I moved from NH.)
Non-Participating Franchises -- @#&*!
My complaint is with the Pizza Hut site not accepting it's own coupons. I know the pizza can be bad, but sometimes you just need a pan pizza. :) There's a section to enter the number of a printed coupon you receive. Not once in several years has a single one of the coupons I've got in my hand been a "valid" code. Annoying. If I call in, I can use the printed coupon but sometimes it's easier to order on-line.

Family foods I thought was normal
I've got 2.
First was Friday night dinner at Gram's. It was always bacon and french fries. NO idea how it started but it lasted for more than 20 years.
The second is what we called "Hamburger mish-mash with rice in the mish-mash juice". In the days before microwaves, to take a pound of ground beef out of the freezer meant you had to wait for it to thaw naturally or cook it while frozen. This meal, we cooked it frozen. You just kind of scrap off the cooked part and keep turning the frozen blob around until it's all cooked and scrambled. Then Mum added good 'ol canned beef gravy. Also, cook up some instant rice and add canned beef gravy to that. Dinner!
Ordering groceries over the internet?
Well, Albertsons has decided to cancel their home delivery service in my area. Guess Safeway will now get 100% of my business.
Your Single Favorite Thing In Your Kitchen
My portable ice maker without a doubt. I rarely drink anything but ice water. The fridge doesn't have an ice maker and I could never keep enough trays full in the freezer. This machine works great!
Domino's Oven Baked Sandwiches
I don't like them anymore!
You used to be able to customize the sandwiches. You can't anymore. The whole reason I like them was that I could get extra steak but no peppers and onions.
Oh well. Still looking for that elusive good steak & cheese in the greater Seattle area. It doesn't seem to exist.
Sugar packets

This site has many of those little jam "thingies" for sale.
Is there such a thing as a mini-freezer?
I managed to find a used upright freezer for about $100 delivered. It's lasted about 8 years so far. Can't imagine living without it. Perhaps that's an option if you find the space but not the money.
What is your top pet peeve when going through a chain restaurant drive thru?
I remember seeing that special. Too funny. Guess we take some knowledge for granted in our daily lives.

I've used Restaurant.com several times and never had any extra charges.
What is your top pet peeve when going through a chain restaurant drive thru?
I've had so many wrong orders that I always check my bag. If there is a car behind me, I DO pull up enough for them to get to the window though. If there's an error, I can go around to the drive-in again.
The thing that drives me nuts is getting money back. They always hand you the bills then drop the coins on top. So if you don't grab it just right, the coins fall on the ground. I sure can't get out of my car at a drive thru so I'm out of luck. I worked retail for years and was trained (and in turn trained others) that the coins go into the hand first, THEN the bills. That way the coins are cupped in your hand not sliding off of the paper.
Ordering groceries over the internet?
I'm in the Seattle area and order from Albertsons or Safeway every week. I do 100% of my shopping on-line these days.
Prices are the same as in the store including the weekly flyers. Produce has always been perfect. You are asked NOT to tip the drivers. And the delivery charge is quite reasonable between ($9.95 & $12.95).
I always figure that I'm apt to spend more than that delivery charge on impulse items in the store. Most of which won't be healthy choices. :)
It's especially helpful when ordering turkey, water or soda. I don't have to manhandle the stuff into the cart, onto the checkout, back into the cart, into the trunk, into my hand cart, up the steps, into the house. They carry everything right where you want it.
I don't know what I'd do without it.
Best instant hot chocolate (just add water)?
Try this site:

They sell the packets individually and might be a good way to try a bunch of different flavors without buying an entire box.
Small Kitchen DIY Fixes: Submit Your Stories
What a BRILLIANT idea!
I have the cookie sheets and roasters in a cabinet that's hard to get to and the darn things keep falling over. I searched the office supply places on-line and found a wire organizer that has adjustable dividers. It should work great.
Thanks for the tip!
What else are we missing at McDonald's?
Being someone that has never had "real" lobster, I thought it was like a very mild tuna. I'm not really very big on seafood so probably not the one to trust on this. :)
UK Walkers Roasted Chicken Crisps
Sometimes you can get them on Ebay. Otherwise, there are many sites where you can order them on-line. (thebritishshoppe, britishdelights, englishteastore, britsuperstore, britgrocer, jollygrub)
There used to be small Brit stores in both Freighthouse Square in Tacoma and on Gilmore in Issaquah but I don't know if they're still there. I do ALL of my shopping on-line these days.
Maybe you could post a message on the Chowhound England site and see if someone would ship them to you directly. :) You might make a new friend to trade items.

For me, I found one coupon in a town where I was going on vacation. Figured it was a good way to try a restaurant for a good discount. The food was SOOOO good, we went back two more times that week without coupons. Might not have gone even once without the coupon.
