Cocktails within walking distance of BPL?
Maybe with something nice to snack on? Thanks.
So this Billerica woman walks into a Somerville Market Basket . . .
There's a new one in Chelsea that a friend loves.
I am practically jumping for joy that I have a part time temp gig that is a reasonable walk to MB Somerville. Love that produce section which, to be honest, is all I tend to buy there. I used to go at 7 am on Saturday when I lived near and the parking lot wasn't too bad but was jam packed by the time I left.
Eating my way down Dorchester Ave
Not always quick in the way take out food generally is but there's a place called Boston Fish Market across from Fields Corner T Stop that sells fresh fish and to go orders. There are a couple of tiny tables in there but I've never seen anyone eating at them; just waiting for their order.
I have only tried the fried clams with bellies which I thought were really good and they make a really, really good french fry. They also serve broiled, baked and maybe a few other styles but fried, come on, who can resist that. Meal also comes with a tiny portion of cole slaw.
Types of eggplant
Does anyone have any recipes for sweet italian eggplant or graffitti eggplant. Pictures here:

Can you use them the same as regular eggplant? Parm? Grilled?
Thanks.
Brighton Center, St. Elizabeth's
Deep Ellum it was and it was fantastic. Can't believe I have to suffer on the Green Line 7 more times to experience the full complement on Manhattans - 8 ways.

Brighton Center, St. Elizabeth's
Any place to have a good cocktail around here? Anything French or French-like for Bastille Day? Thanks.
Grendel's, Redline or someplace else in Harvard Sq
We ended up at Noir so thanks to all who recommended it. Overall a very good experience.

Restaurants everyone seems to love but you don't
It's been a while since I was there but for me it's Taranta. The whole experience was just so abysmal that my friend and I were just howling with laughter by the end of the night. First trying to pawn off those oversweet concotions are martinis, then steak that was almost all fat (no wonder it's so dark in there) and a really soggy dessert.
I want to give them a second try but just can't seem to do it.
I do give them kudos for the great little package of toothpicks they gave away at the front counter.

Grendel's, Redline or someplace else in Harvard Sq
For a cocktail and maybe a few appetizers, someplace not to loud or pretentious. Thanks.
Chinese plateware
I'd agree with the general recommendation of Chinatown places and add China Fair on Mass Ave in Cambridge (between Porter and Davis Square). They always seem to have lots of Asian themed plates, bowls, etc.

restaurants with good apps/drinks
Have they solved that revolving door of chefs issue? Haven't been in a while but it was getting pretty dicey there a while back.
Green Street, taco Wed? I had no idea!
Sounds promising in my search for the holy grail - a good fish taco. Thanks.
Trader Joe's In Fresh Pond
I was in the TJ's on Memorial Drive Saturday and asked if they were going to expand to Boston. There's a great site on Morrissey Blvd. where the National Wholesale Liquidators is now. Guy at service desk said they were going to Fresh Pond. He didn't mention the 3 store rule re liquor but did say how much he wished they could sell real liquor like they do in CA. I agreed.

Cheese store in Santa Monica
Hi. Can anyone recommend a good cheese store in Santa Monica? I'm hoping to find someone who can put together a gift basket or will sell gift certificates. Thanks.
Comprehensive Chowish Craft Cocktail Compendium '09
Who else besides me "hearts" MC Slim JB.
"A douchey after-work crowd" at Drink. Lordy, lord. Seriously, MC, I read that the cocktails at Drink somehow magically appear in front of you but not having been, cannot confirm or deny. If true, that somehow ruins the whole ceremonial aspect of getting my perfect manhattan.
Best Boston Hotel Bar Lounge
Not called reasonable by any stretch of the imagination but the Oak Room bar has the ambiance that I think you're looking for if not the price. So worth the splurge though.
Scampo's in Liberty Hotel has the mozzarella bar but I've only been to Clink in this hotel so far and that was OK but noisey.
Has anyone had a bad experience at Artu?
My last experience there (North End location) was not that great either. The food was mediocre at best - nothing really horrible stands out. But I did toss the doggy bag after I opened it next day and decided I didn't even like it enough for leftovers. The service - while waiter was friendly enough when he was paying attention to us - there wasn't that much attention paid and orders were wrong on entrees and desserts (he left the wrong dessert and just brought us the correct one and said he wouldn't charge us for the "extra" dessert. We got a real laugh over that.
Need a recommendation for business dinner in San Antonio for a Saturday night
Hi. I need a recommendation for dinner for 6 hopefully within walking distance of COURTYARD SAN ANTON 600 SANTA ROSA SOUTH SAN ANTONIO. This is a business dinner for people attending a conference and one future employee who is also attending the conference. No dietary restrictions that I know of but should probably be fairly traditional. Thanks.
Breakfast catering near Kendall
Hi. What places will deliver breakfast for 70 to Kendall Square area? Company does a breakfast every week and wants to mix it up with eggs etc. some weeks and bagels and muffins other weeks. FYI, Al Capone's has done eggs, bacon etc for $300 for them and they'd like to keep it in that price range. Thanks.
Dinner and Drinks near 22nd and 2nd?
Anyone have any suggestions? We'll eat almost anything but sushi. Moderately priced if there is such a thing in NYC - not sure what dollar value to put on that - $30/per?. We aren't opposed to eating at the bar, in fact might prefer it. Thanks.
New Brunswick suggestion
Hi. Someone recommended Soho on George or Old Man Rafferty's in New Brunswick. Anyone been? Good or would you recommend someplace else in the area? Full liquor license a plus. Thanks.
Souvenirs for bosses
Any suggestions for souvenirs for two of my bosses. One does not like sweets so macarooms from Hermes are not going to work. I was thinking a nice bottle of French vermouth since both are martini drinkers? Can someone recommend something along those lines and a place to purchase. I'm staying in the 5th. Thanks.
Food Markets in Paris
Fantastic. That is exactly what I was looking for. And thanks for the recommendations for Sunday night too.
Food Markets in Paris
I'll be staying in and apartment with a full kitchen in the 5th arr. and would like recommendations for food markets. Thanks.
Le Reminet, Paris
This was my go to place on Sunday nights in Paris. Since I'll be there in a few weeks, I thought I'd check the board to see what else has been reported as good and bad. I was so sad to read that Le Reminet is not in favor anymore. Did the original chef/owner and his wife open another restaurant?
Any other news or recommendations you want to share would be appreciated. Thanks.
Restaurant week sucks! [moved from Boston board]
First year I participated I went to Lucca for dinner but I don't think they've ever been on the list since. 9 Park used to do lunch but they don't any more...neighbor who works there says it's because their food/menu just doesn't fit with idea of RW. I don't remember seeing Locke Ober on the list this year but I have been there for lunch. It was great and Lydia Shire was walking around the dining room and talked to just about everyone.
Restaurant week sucks! [moved from Boston board]
In fact, Amex cardholders used to be able to reserve one or two weeks ahead of everyone else. With the links to opentable now on the "official" RW site, I don't think this applies anymore. I remember getting notice one year but only happened that one time.
