Where to buy small organic whole chickens
prather ranch in the FB has small, organic whole chickens. spendy, but i roasted one last week, and it was absurdly good.
how do i cook a pork bacon chop?
honestly, i've never even heard of this cut before, and a few search attempts on various cooking sites has turned up nothing. does it have another name? it has a bone, and perhaps a tenderloin on one side and bacon on the other. it looks great.
anyhow, i can't quite figure out how i should cook it. should it be braised? cooked just like a chop? hmmm.... suggestions welcome.
thanks!
Fresh Corn Tortillas?
i've been searching for these myself, mostly to no avail. except one day out of the year:
on dia de los muertos, there's a festival held at a church in the east village -- i forget where, exactly (i had just moved here last november, and was still a bit turned around). there's music, dancing ... and a little tent where some older women make tortillas by hand. i had a quesadilla, and the cheese was melting even as the tortilla cooked on the flat grill. i still think about it, pretty much daily.
yasuda or should i wait for tokyo?
thanks for all the great advice!
i'm moving to san francisco, so good sushi (though perhaps not great) will be around. and i have a friend who lives in tokyo, so he'll be able to steer me towards the great stuff.
and believe me, i've been eating as much as possible, in an effort not to miss out on anything. i think my pizza consumption is up to at least once/day.
yasuda or should i wait for tokyo?
it's my last month in new york and i'm trying to figure out what is a must-hit and what, perhaps, i might skip in favor of other chow. yasuda gets a lot of favorable press here, and i've never been ... but i'm going to japan for about two weeks pretty soon.
is it worth hitting up yasuda, or will the yasuda-memory fade as soon as i start eating in tokyo?
my top three square pizza slices -- any others i should try?
(1) de marco's
(2) l&b spumoni
(3) difara
i'm pretty sure demarco's has the best square slice on the planet. crisp bottom, tangy sweet sauce, perfect blend of cheese, and so light to bite down on! i tried difara's square last night, hoping it would be even better, but the texture was a bit heavier, cheese a little too strong.
i've tried the squares elsewhere in the city (not so much in brooklyn, yet) but so far nothing else deserves to be on this list. any suggestions???
