Is there a top barbecue in the Capital Region?

Wow. PJ's BBQSA is really improved this year. I haver always liked the chicken but, having been to the great places of TN, TX, and MO, I didn't expect what I got yesterday. Fabulous pink-ringed ribs and brisket. The brisket was better than Dinosaur!

Paterson Turkish

A Turkish professor I know recently said to me that the most authentic Turkish food in the U.S. is found in Paterson, NJ. Would NJ Chowhounders recommend one or two restaurants, since I will be in the area in the next two weeks. I am also concerned about safety because of Paterson's rep as a very violent and dangerous city.

Is there a top barbecue in the Capital Region?

I will definitely check it out!

Elizabeth's Table (Saratoga Springs)

I must amend my original post. I really like the owners, and the food is usually good, but my breakfast this morning was not good at all: nearly burnt bacon, potatoes I had said not to bring, toast that was not toasted, slow and poor service (and there were only two other customers, who weren't even ordering food). The owners were not there, so I suspect consistency is a problem (obviously!), especially when the Phillips are gone.

Elizabeth's Table (Saratoga Springs)

Delicious sandwiches (I had the turkey burger with smoked gouda most recently). Best bacon in town.

Whole Foods coming to Albany

One would think so, but I hear about a non-competition agreement b/w Golub (Price Chopper) and Wegman's; I have no idea if it's true or urban legend.

Dinosaur, KC Masterpiece, and Dreamland Inn are just 3 that come to mind. I am sure there are dozens more.

WORST and BEST in SARATOGA SPRINGS

Lillian's is strictly for tourists.

Cafe Capriccio (Albany)

My personal rule is to avoid restaurants during Restaurant WeeK.

Russo's Restaurant (Saratoga Springs) . . .anyone been yet?

A recent review in local blog Mamatoga was very negative.

Elizabeth's Table (Saratoga Springs)

They opened 4/21.

Albany

New World Bistro on Delaware, Capriccio and Yono's would all fit the bill.

The Wine Bar (Saratoga Springs) - anyone been recently?

Yes, the food is still great. I especially love his homemade pasta dishes. Full disclosure: I am an acquaintance of Mr. Colose.

Anyone been to Ballston Spa Newbie, 51 Front Wine Bar & Bistro?

Whistling Kettle is a terrific lunch place. Nice people, nice atmo, good food.

Playa 's current best restaurants and chefs ?

Sorry, it's Xulam, not Xulan.

Playa 's current best restaurants and chefs ?

We loved Xulan last month. Terrific genuine Mayan cuisine with macaws watching you eat. Friendly waitstaff, great drinks as well. Right near the entrance to Phase 1 of Playacar.

Skidmore/ Saratoga Springs Post Graduation Brunch

Sperry's and Hattie's both have added Sat. & Sun. brunch.

Skidmore/ Saratoga Springs Post Graduation Brunch

I agree with the recommendations for brunch at Max London's and Maestro's, but not 50 South (not festive, downmarket).. I would add two other latelunch options for that Saturday: Hattie's and Sperry's, both great, but check to see if they're still serving brunch after two--they may because of the commencement that say.

Skidmore/ Saratoga Springs Post Graduation Brunch

Two o'clock at the earliest.

Twenty 8 Tables (Saratoga Springs)

His sandwich place, Sangwych (former 8 Tables), went downhill as soon as he sold it as well, and just closed. I suspect 28 will close soon.

Memorable meal in Playa del Carmen recs?

Xulam is the name. My tamer companions enjoyed steaks, shrimp, ceviche, etc. Glad the others below seemed to think it was good as well.

Memorable meal in Playa del Carmen recs?

I was there earlier this month and had a terrific experience and meal at a 1-yr.-old restaurant called Ulam (?): Maya cuisine (including prehistoric tacos--maguey worms, grasshoppers, etc.), well prepared, great service, reasonable prices, macaws. It is near the main gate to Playacar Phase 1, and near the Playa Palace hotel.

Another DZ restaurant (Chianti, Forno Bistro) in S. Springs?

Yes, he is planning a tapas bar.

open on christmas day

WHERE?

Christmas

No one is going to reply with useful info to a post entitled Christmas and southern NJ is way out of this board's area. Try "Christmas in Rockland Co. area" or similar.

Chez Pierre (Gansevoort/S. Springs) - anyone been recently?

Sounds like it stayed the course.

Playa del Carmen

Thank you, Veggo and Porker. Looked up some of your older posts, too. Anybody else?

Playa del Carmen

Went to Playa last Jan. and noticed that many restaurants only last a couple of seasons. Would love to hear current recommendations for any type of place as long as it is tasty. Please do not give recs for Cancun, Cozumel, or Tulum--Playa del Carmen only, please!

Where should I buy my whole prime rib roast? (Saratoga Springs)

I bought my last prime rib roast at The Meat House in Wilton and it was excellent. And yes they do carry real "prime."

I-87 from NYC to Lake George

You are referring to PJ's which is closed off season (although in 2012 it will be open all year). I fear Saratoga is too far from NYC to drive on an empty stomach. If not, how about Hattie's at Exit 15.
