Looking for a Cepillo (ice scraper)

Does anyone know of a good Latin/Hispanic kitchen store where I could find a Cepillo- those ice scrapers that are used to make Raspada- shave ice?
thanks-

Park Slope lunch with Dad

We ended up at Scalino. My dad's taglierini with meat sauce was yummy, and a big portion- they have a lunch special of a pasta and green salad for $10. The mixed green salad, tho very basic, was very fresh. I had an app of meatballs in traditional sauce- it was fine but not amazing, and an app of roasted baby artichokes. The artichokes had not too much flavor and were served with a sliver or two of roasted garlic and a lot of olive oil. Very under seasoned and bland, unfortunately, since I love artichokes! It was very quiet on this rainy day and I think that the owner may have been waiting on us. I don't know that I would go out of my way to eat there again, but would return if I was in the nabe and needed somewhere reliable to go to.

I am looking forward to trying Campo Di Fiore soon- I had the best pizza ever at a tiny pizzeria at the real Campo in Italy!! And I agree, ChipShop is pretty awesome, but bathing suit season is coming ;)

Thanks!

Park Slope lunch with Dad

Hi-
I haven't eaten in Park Slope in a while and need a weekday lunch suggestion. Doesn't need to be fancy, just yummy. Prefer to stay around 7th Avenue/6th Street, if possible...
thanks-

Need recommendation for Friday dinner

Hi Hounds-
I have a friend visiting from London, and we are going out for dinner on Friday night. We are both moms to young children and don't get to go out as much as we used to :0
I'd like to take her somewhere fun, kinda cool with delicious food. Not tooooo loud so we can catch up. Not so hip that we feel old and frumpy.
What do you suggest???? I'll report back.
thanks.

Looking for Meat or Poultry CSA

Does such a thing exist?
I know about the pork one, but I am not crazy about some of the items that are included.
I'd love to find a poultry/beef/lamb situation...
Any ideas???
thanks.

ISO: Pretzel Bread or Rolls

Anywhere in the general Cobble Hill/Carroll Gardens/Brooklyn Heights area that sells plain pretzel braids or rolls? They don't sell them plain at Cafe Pedlar... Thanks!

Mazzat on Columbia St

We ordered delivery the other nite... It was definitely commercially bought pita ( mediocre, at that). The hummus and baba were very good- but the baba was too smokey, as if they added liquid smoke. The tabooule had too much parsley. The lamb shwarma was actually sauteed- not real shwarma, so we were disappointed. It seemed too similar to mediocre Zaytoons for my taste. Probably won't go back- I can make yummy hummus at home and have awesome shwarma at Mamouns on Bleecker...

Where Does Canola Oil Come From?

Peanut Oil is popular because it has a very high buring point, so you can use it in more applications without it burning or smoking. It is used often in stirfrying ( high heat!!) because many other oils smoke and burn at the sme temperature. And it is cheap.

New Restaurant - Henry btw Carroll and 1st

I agree with most of your points in your thoughtful and thorough reply, cqchow. However, I think that all restaurant owners ( and by extension, all business owners) should think about the the end user- in this case, the diner. It would be no contradiction to his concept, and no work at all to offer a salad, and he would make tons of extra money also! I just think that it would make for a more pleasant and well rounded experience to have a salad, a list of toppings and a note in the window stating the policy change about the corkage fee for those who had already gotten used to none. For me, a couple of slices of good pizza is not dinner- I need some veggies!!!

New Restaurant - Henry btw Carroll and 1st

I agree with the last few posters. I was not wowed. The space is kinda charming, but the staff obviously has no experience. Our pizzas came out fast, and I liked the crust, but it all seemed too insubstantial. Not very generous with the toppings, ($2 for a couple of slices of white onion or mushrooms???), and not enough cheese, for my taste. I have eaten pizza all over Italy, and although it tasted pretty good and was more authentic, I just did not feel that it was such a huge hit. They really need to have a green salad ( how hard is it to open up a bag of mesclun or wash some romaine?) to flesh out the offerings a bit, and should have a table top list of the toppings available. I was actually still hungry when I left, not really having any veggies or greens to round out my meal....

DUB Pies - Aussie/Kiwi Meat Pies in CSWD?

They do have some good pies, some mediocre pies and some not so good ones. The were wholesaling to several bars and cafes, but ordered to stop since they did not have an FDA approved kitchen, which you have to have if you are cooking wholesale products that contain meat or cheeseproducts. It is to protect the consumer from unsafe or dangerous practices.

Curious about their latte/capps- why were they so good????

Katina's in PS -- Gone for good?

I heard from a very reliable source that Gus, the owner, plans to renovate, but took a several week vacation back to Greece first. He owns Purity Diner on 7th Ave, so he does know how to run a decent joint. I hope that he does renovate and turn it into a real diner, not a skanky eyesore like it was for so long....
