St. John or Hereford Road? and please help round out my addtl restaurant choices [London]

well i wasnt trying to match the pre/post theatre set price, was really looking at the a la carte menu in terms of determining total meal cost, but thank you for taking that into consideration.

So we're def going to St. John, as it seems it must not be missed. We'll def give a visit to Harwood as well. Is Arbutus a waste of our time? Its scheduled for the last night of our trip, and I wanted to end on a good note. Any other suggestions? Was looking for something in a similar price range.

The Robuchon lunch was more to check out the space and to compare the food to the NYC one. And we figured we would be in the area during lunch anyway. Should we not waste our time? Any suggestions for lunch in the area?

Hello,
Ive been obsessively reading the boards and am finally ready to post looking for advice.

Ill be in London in two weeks for 3 nights and am starting to book tables for my visit.
We are looking to mainly have "British" food as we'll have spent the prior three days in Paris and can get most other types of food back home in NYC. We're staying in Kensington, but don't mind travelling to any point in the London for a great meal.

I have already booked a table at St John for my thurs night dinner, would it be redundant to go to hereford road within the same visit? Should I altogether skip St John and go to Hereford Rd instead? It seems that the two are both held in high regard on this board, but is St John mostly hype?

I also have lunch booked at L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon and dinner at Arbutus on Sat night.

I was thinking of being touristy and having high tea on friday, and having a small dinner (if necessary). Bad idea?

Is Arbutus a good choice for dinner? If not any suggestions for a comparably priced restaurant would be greatly appreciated.

Is Harwood Arms worth the visit?

Also interested in checking out some pubs for a pre/post dinner drink. Should I go to the Fox & Anchor by St. John? any other recs?

I know I have a ton of quesitons, thank you for your help!

Questions about Chez L'Ami Jean

me too! ill be there on 10/27, very excited!

Reykjavik recommendations?

much appreciated! thanks!

Steakhouse for BF's Birthday - Primehouse, Quality Meats, Old Homestead?

I'm surprised to hear lugers would cook their porterhouse to medium when you ordered medium rare. they're usually one step below, if i order med rare i get it rare, if i order rare, its basically still walking!

3 days in Paris - or more like 3 Dinners and 2 Lunches, please help!

thank you all for the suggestions. I just checked the la gaigne site too and i think at the time i posted it did not say that they were closed on mondays? they did update their tasting menu so i believe this is an update as well.

i guess i will have to either skip it or replace l'ami Jean on tuesday night.

3 days in Paris - or more like 3 Dinners and 2 Lunches, please help!

Hello,
I will be in Paris with my girlfriend for three days at the end of October.
Ive been obsessively reading all the boards regarding where to eat in Paris and now am a little confused and in need of assistance. We are staying by porte maillot, but traveling to any location in the city will not be an issue for us. We are looking for mostly classical french meals, but throwing in something a little new/edgy for one meal would be great too. overall we'd like to spend no more than 50-60 eur/person for dinner, less of course would be great, but we're mainly looking for bistros, not high end fine dining.

We arrive on monday afternoon, and leave on thursday morning. It seems that most restaurants are closed on Monday so where do you suggest we go for dinner that night? We planned on going to the Eiffel tower and maybe taking a Seine cruise that first day so a central location would probably suit us best. Ive read that La Gaigne is open on mondays. Is that a good choice? Or Les cocottes?

Tuesday lunch: should we go to bistrot paul bert (read that dinner can be hit or miss, but figured it would be good for the set lunch menu)? or le comptoir du relais?

We def plan on going to chez l'ami Jean on tuesday night.

We may or may not be able to catch lunch in paris on wed because we are going to versailles in the morning, so does anyone have suggestions for lunch in versailles or paris (if we can make it back in time)?

Where should we go for dinner on wed night? Le Chateaubriand? Frenchie? Itineraires? L’Epigramme? We would of course love to end the Paris leg of our trip on a good note.

Any/all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.

in [London] for 3 nights

thanks for the reply. would you happen to know the set price for the tasting menu? it looks fantastic

whats the deal with the tasting menu at maze? looking at their website it seems like its just an a la carte menu. except its the a la carte menu which doesnt have prices listed next to dishes instead of the tasting menu? maybe i am just misinterpreting "tasting" and thinking of how it is applied here in the states? if anyone could shed some light that would be most appreciated, thanks!

Reykjavik recommendations?

Hello, NY Chowhounder here.
Ive read through all the posts regarding Reykjavik and Iceland and now need some help. Will only be there for two days, but with the activities planned I really only have time for one lunch, one long dinner (planning on going somewhere excellent for this meal) and and additional quick casual dinner.

I arrive on a Sat morning and planned on going to the Sea Baron and trying their lobster soup and perhaps some grilled skewers. (not counting this as lunch, more of a snack).

Where should I go for lunch? I was thinking of having a "classic" icelandic meal for dinner (not fusion), so therefore I was thinking maybe lunch at Fish Market? Is Orange open for lunch?

For my main dinner I was thinking either Lobster House or laekjarbrekka. Am I silly for not going to the Seafood Cellar?

Also read about geysir above seafood cellar, would this be a good spot for a casual dinner on my second night? or should i go to Thrir Frakkar?

any/all suggestions are greatly appreciated, thank you in advance for your time!
