Bummed that Art of the Table is closed for renovation.... if given a choice for our 'nice dinner ", would you go to Book Bindery or Rover's ? Both sounds fantastic though leaning towards Rover's for their wine component.

Hello Seattle Chowhounders, my wife and I are flying in sans kids from Southern California for a short birthday weekend. I usually have more time to prepare but this trip was a bit spontaneous and could use a little assistance. Thankfully a few recent threads have asked for similar information so I was able to do some research as well as from a few friends who used to live in Seattle. We are staying at Inn at the Market from for 2 nights so will be hitting the town from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning. We enjoy all types of cuisine from hole in the walls to nicer places but really looking for places that represent what Seattle has to offer. We've also lived in Chicago and New York. So here's what I have planned to far though I wish we were staying longer.
Friday Lunch: Matt's at the Market
Friday Dinner: The Palace Kitchen or Quinns
Sat Breakfast: Eat at Lowells or Lola or Sitka and Spruce (brunch)
Sat Lunch: Revel
Sat Dinner: The Palace Kitchen, Quinns, Poppy, or Book BIndery
Sun Brunch: Eat at Lowells or Lola
Snacks: Elliot's Oysters , Donuts
We prefer to walk or take short cab rides, are cabs readily available in downtown Seattle ? Since I planned this trip around eats, any ideas on local attractions nearby will be lovely. Would you replace any of my selections for a " must eat " place or would do you change the order of any of the places ?
I've been to Seattle only once years ago on the way to Vancouver and greatly looking forward to our visit. Thanks so much !

After years of eating the famous Blue Crab Hand Rolls from Sushi Wasabi (Tustin) or to some Sushi Sasabune (L.A), we are hoping to make the same at home. Besides the obvious blue crab meat, sushi rice, a touch of mayo, good quality nori and maybe a bit of salt, anything else I should add. Has anyone attempted this feat ? Is it possible to buy the mixture already made ?
We realize it will take a good number of blue crabs to accumulate a good amount crab meat but the possibility of creating a decent version of this scrumptious signature dish outweigh the bad. TIA !

I am interested in doing some Yakitori cooking at home and looking for some advice on equipment as well as some recipes. Our 4 young kids love going to Izakaya /Yakitori places but thought I would be a fun idea to try at home. Korin had some Japanese charcoal barbeque grills including binchotan charcoal as well as some of those cooking nets. Anyone have any experience in their products ?
Also, depending on what they are making, I notice the chefs sprinkling some spice (besides salt and pepper) on some of the food. Does anyone know what this is ? I have a pretty large gas BBQ grill as we as a few portable charcoal grills so I am open to maybe customize what I have, but would love to make the food tasting as authentic as possible. Finally, if anyone has a great resource or link to great yakitori recipes, that would be lovely. Thanks !

Thanks everyone for all your swell ideas ! We ended up making ribs (par baked then finished on the grill) , grilled corn, and baked beans for our small group. For the big group, we decided to do grilled bbq chicken (par baked and finished on the grill) and a huge pot of corn chowder ! I think our group had the best eats last weekend ! Thanks again and I look forward to trying out some of these recipes in the future !

I did check out the menu at Yakitori Totto to make certain they have chicken hearts, which
the kids love along with the normal chicken parts, just need to get there early so they don't run out =)
I am aware of the change at Yasuda and I believe we had the sushi chef who took over serve us awhile back. Does Yasuda have a full menu for table service ? website does not list and I can always call them. I have frequented Joe's Shanghai many of times but thanks for the Shanghai Cafe ref ! Thanks for the recs to Recto and Markt, will definitely check them out !

Hello.
I was able to take my older kids (then 7) to NYC for their first time last summer.
Thanks to some great recs on CH, I was able to visit a few old faves (lived in NYC in the 90s)
and discover a few new ones. Kids loved NYC and are stoked to go back in May when I will be
attending a conference. There are fairly good eaters who are 8 now and again looking for places that are both kid friendly and foodie enough for me and my wife who also will be making this trip. We are staying near Times Square but will be all over the city.
Last visit, we dined at John's pizza, Landmarc twice, Churrascraria Plataforma (pre-theatre dinner), Dylan's Candy Mar, Milk Bar, Shake Shake (twice), Kanoyama and a forgetful deli near Times Square.

Here are some of the places we hope to visit: Keens (for pre-theatre dinner), Landmarc again, Yakitori Totto, Shake Shack, of course, and Sarges (my personal deli fave and old haunt). We would like to try Keste or Motorino for pizza but hope to avoid any lines, any other suggestions for any recent top NYC pizza joints ? Kanoyama was good but another new sushi recommendation that have kid friendly food (teriyaki, rolls) but also a great sushi and sake selection ?. I would love to take my wife to Yasuda which I thoroughly enjoyed 2 years ago but not sure if they have a full menu for table seating for the kids ?
Also, a soup dumping place recommendation, ie Joe's Shanghai ? And finally, a bistro place where I can enjoy the usual bistro fare (mussels, bone marrow, terrines, liver, steak fries, etc) but also kid friendly. We usually have early dinners when restaurants and kids are a good combination and usually have a snack later on =)

i concur, bacon is king in my book, I think just plain bacon would
make the kids happy, while shrimp/anything wrapped with bacon just screams for some cool suds ! PP is another great option to consider as I was thinking of having some kind of slider station, thanks !
