Vegetarian restos in Raleigh area Sorry I live in Chapel Hill which is my (plentiful) veg hunting grounds, but I can tell you there are tons of veg South Indian restaurants in nearby Cary and Morrisville. Remedy Diner is in downtown Raleigh, but I've never been. |

Vegan-Friendly in Greenville, SC? I'm the vegan on this board in NC, but I do want to help. Have you tried Happy Cow, this is my go-to site http://www.happycow.net/ I just checked there and Lifeit Cafe sounds pretty cool. It's where I'd go. |

Foodiest City: Asheville, NC vs Charleston, SC (or possibly Savannah, GA?) As a former new yorker, who has lived in Cambridge Mass. I plump for the Triangle, due the big Asian population here we have tons of South Indian restaurants plus Northern, Chinese, Greek, Thai, German-Polish,Korean, Japanese restaurants, there are huge Chinese and Indian supermarkets, farmer's markets. Also thanks to immigration tons of taquerias and markets. I really miss nothing..... |

me too; thanks for the info! |
how interesting. Meatn3 what kind of cuisine do they go in? |

bbqme & LM; Subash is indeed extremely nice and helpful. I tried so many new things due to his recommendations & learned a lot about Tamil Food. And Vimala! she's the epitome of warmth and hospitality. I've had so many delicious dishes at her place. We're lucky in Chapel Hill. |

BF I suggest you reread the first post by my friend Nudibranch (I was with her) who had the crab dish and sopped up the gravy with her dosa. A dosa is a lentil rice crepe, fantastically nutritious; why don't you read this and learn a bit more about Southern Indian Food http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Indian_cuisine |
Tamil food isn't all about heat either. And high end Southern food is sophisticated with subtle masalas. So I think BF for your newby enjoyment go to Tower in Morrisville but then again Southern food might not be your thing, go for Northern. About the dosa, you don't crumble it, you can break off a piece scoop chutneys/pickles or pick up food with it. |

You can make your own vegan cheeses, they're very easy get "The Ultimate Uncheese Cookbook" by Jo Stepaniak (amazon) it's great My fave comfort foods are chickpea a la king and loaves with mashed potatoes and cashew gravy; 7th Day Adventist cookbooks are amazing at veganizing American comfort foods.. I recommend Newstart. Heres a link |

Georgio Bakatsias is at it again in Chapel Hill raw pecans, almonds, cashews, walnuts taste great in vegan cooked loaves or raw food entrees and desserts... |
Georgio Bakatsias is at it again in Chapel Hill they told me they bake every day & since restaurant baking is early in the morning let's say they're done by 9am. I do believe them as I cook and bake with nuts all the time - not fresh nuts taste like sawdust. |
Georgio Bakatsias is at it again in Chapel Hill FYI after 6pm the baked goods are half-price, found this out as I was taking some home after dinner, the nut pastries and cookies are excellent, so fresh. |

that's a thought, though Celeriac is easily available, I get mine at Weaver St. for chicken soup. I'd suggest calling Around the World Market since it's used in what? Thai recipes. |

Place with good/great food open mid-afternoons? Preferably Chapel Hill/Carrboro Gourmet Kingdom, Korchipi Korean pizza, Kipos (?) |

Place with good/great food open mid-afternoons? Preferably Chapel Hill/Carrboro Cholanad is open and they serve their dinner menu for lunch. You can get wine;-) |

Visiting Raleigh-Durham, Need Help have you tried The Pig's BLT at the Carrboro Farmer's Market, between his bacon and the ripe tomatoes, it's the best BLT I've ever had. |
Visiting Raleigh-Durham, Need Help I was at Acme for Thanksgiving; ghastly. Haven't been back. |
Visiting Raleigh-Durham, Need Help I'm going to the dog show too:) Hmm, I'd suggest Crook's Corner in Chapel Hill, it's famous, has very good Southern food, wonderful desserts, you can dress casually and afterwards stroll along Franklin St. It's very pretty. So you get the whole ball of wax. It's a drive but they have a parking lot and it's worth it. If I still lived in NYC and came here I'd want to go there. |

Georgio Bakatsias is at it again in Chapel Hill agreed about Med Deli, they are way better than fast food. Didn't realize about the pita either. |
Georgio Bakatsias is at it again in Chapel Hill Yes, the Galakto is the milk custard. I'd say Med deli is for cheap food; I never eat there. I ate at Tallulah's a while back, October and it was nice, but not up to the quality of Kipos. There was quite a crowd there yesterday. |

Georgio Bakatsias is at it again in Chapel Hill Okay my dad and I just ate there Sunday, it seems it was opening night, we just rambled in from the gym. It's been done over charmingly with a big open kitchen with rotisseries going. The food is very good indeed. They have a regular menu, then one with small plates, mezzes and we ordered from the latter; feta, gigantes, salad, beef keftedes, fried calamari, vegetable fritters, washed down with a carafe of white wine. We had plenty of food and familiar things like Feta were amazing, the vegetable fritters like little puffs of air but you could taste the fresh herbs. We both agreed that the food was fantastic. The place filled up but our server was lovely and very attentive, the atmosphere very pleasant, live bouzouki music and the chef making the rounds. I was sorry I didn't have a slice of the leek or spinach pie. The desserts didn't fail either, I had walnut honey cake, light and delicious and my father a milk pastry. The bakery is open all day until 10pm and they'll sell coffee & pastries which is excellent. We loved our dinner and looking forward to returning. |

One pizza going and another coming in Chapel Hill Vimala's is doing great;-) I remember after the opening Camos wasn't busy; they didn't serve anything different. |
One pizza going and another coming in Chapel Hill Never been to Ming Ga, hmm. Heh, it was great. Helsinki was fabulous, very expensive with super fish, and wonderful spicy cinnamon rolls the next day over coffee. In Estonia the farmer's market was amazing with every variety of local mushroom, wonderful preserves, a mind-boggling display of local fish and sausages. A real foodie heaven. |
One pizza going and another coming in Chapel Hill I'd just like Korchipi to have more korean things like you'd find at Vit Goal; the fresh tofu and soups etc I think that would be very popular. |
Korean spot open in old Franklin Pizza and Pasta spot in Chapel Hill No I took them home I can't believe I had enough discipline not to eat them on the way;-) |
Korean spot open in old Franklin Pizza and Pasta spot in Chapel Hill Okay I just got a box after badminton, I'm no Korean chicken wing aficionado (eat mostly tofu dishes) but they made them to order and I found along with my friends, the hot and spicy wings to be utterly delicious. [quite hot, I adored it but be careful] Mine had crunch and were sticky, but then I got them at 6pm, maybe hounds should try non ultra busy times, as they are just starting. |

Best Indian in the Triangle - Vimala's Curry Blossom Cafe Native Southern iconic foods as sweet potatoes, okra, collards come from Africa; Carolina rice, country captain stew, the crepe myrtle are from Asia. Asians are now the fastest-growing racial group in the US and according to the census NC is in the top 5 states with the fastest growing Asian population; it is 6% in Orange Co. and 4.6 in Durham. It is no surprise to me with Govs. Jindal and Haley of LA and SC and they are indigenous Southerners. |
Best Indian in the Triangle - Vimala's Curry Blossom Cafe You should seek out biryani in a high end place like Cholanad (it's wonderful) biryani is a famous court food of the Muslim princely state of Hyderabad. Indigenous means born in the country. Asian-Americans born in North Carolina are as indigenous as 6th gen Scottish-Americans. I notice French restaurants are never termed 'ethnic' food, think about it... |
3-Cups (Chapel Hill, NC) closing yes wine (good wine!) beer and coffee it will be open until 11:00 I think, just check on that. |
Best Indian in the Triangle - Vimala's Curry Blossom Cafe Since there is a big South Asian population in North Carolina, Indian food is normal and indigenous. It is exotic to you & I hope you will wake up and shed the attitude. |
