12 yrs girl birthday party in Montreal
If you are looking into tea, Gryphon D'Or Tea Room on Monklanddoes an amazing afternoon tea.
As for picnic in the park idea, I love grabbing some pies from TA and desserts (either from there or Cocoa Locale) and heading to the mountain. http://ta-pies.com/en
Or, what about dinner, and then my 12 year old cousin's favourite activity, ceramic painting? There's one on St Denis: http://www.leccs.com/montreal/
Best canned, packaged or frozen soup
I always keep a couple of Imagine Organic soups in the pantry. I've also recently discovered Pacific Natural Food's soups, highly recommend their cashew carrot ginger soup. You can find both brands at health food stores or the health food section of large grocery stores.
Restaurant in Old Montreal for 6-15 person wedding reception
Da Emma might fit the bill, not sure about a private room though.
First Time Dallas Visit!
Hello everyone,
I'll be visiting Dallas for the first time next week. I'm from Montreal, and i'd love some recommendations for must try foods or items I should try to bring home. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!
Opinions on Traiteur Robert Alexis?
That's good to hear. We'll have about 250 guests at the wedding, i'm curious to hear how they do with banquets of this size.
Opinions on Traiteur Robert Alexis?
Thank you so much for the advice!
I'm aware of the price difference between Avocado and other caterers. Although, you can opt out of the charge for the servers to have their hair done. Kinda ridiculous if you ask me!
How many people did you have at your wedding?
Foodies Boys Weekend in Montreal
I'll +1 the Icehouse recommendation. Great place for a group of guys to OD on meat and the like.
Opinions on Traiteur Robert Alexis?
My fiance and I are in the process of selecting a caterer for our wedding. Right now, Robert Alexis has the top spot, but we'd love some feedback from the CH community. Any stories to tell about Robert Alexis? Next two options are Avocado and Agnus Dei, feedback on them would be great as well.
Thank you in advance!
Marché Soupson (Jean Talon/Waverly)
I've been waiting for someone to mention Soupson on this board! Our office recently moved to the area and (I kid you not) at least 90% of our employees grab lunch there every single day. Great neighborhood addition!
Looking for Quebec City NYE dinner
My boyfriend and I spent last NYE in Quebec City and we had dinner at Le Pain Beni. Everything was spot on, it was truly a great meal. Although, we booked a few weeks in advance, not sure if you'll get a spot if you wait any longer.
HELP! will not survive another week there.
Can you venture in Laval at all? Laval may not be known for fine food, but you will have way more options there than in St Eustache! Marathon's and Mozza aren't too bad.
Anyone try Ristorante Oggi in Dollard des Ormeaux? It's currently on TeamBuy's daily deals.
I've been to Oggi and found it horrible. Sub-par "Italian" food and slow service to boot. Went with a party of 10 on a Wednesday night. We were the only diners in the restaurant and it took a ridiculously long time for our food to arrive. I wouldn't go back.
freeze dried fruit & vegetables.
I love the corn from Just Tomatoes! I have bought freeze dried corn here in Montreal made by Sensible Foods: http://sensiblefoods.com/buy-online
You can find them at health food stores, I have bought them many times at Teva (Decarie near Queen Mary).

restaurant downtown or in Old Montreal for a group of 10, similar pricepoint to Europea or Le Latini
Maybe give Da Emma a try as well. Not sure about the private room though.
Where can I find La Bomba spicy antipasto sauce in Montreal?
They definitely have it at Mayrand, we recently bought a huge jar!

Where can I purchase a Bialetti Brikka 2 cup version in Montreal?
Have you tried Quincaillerie Dante in Little Italy? Le Cafe Creme has some listed on their website if i'm not mistaken.

In search of HONEY CRISP APPLES in downtown Montreal (including Atwater Market)
Yes, you definitely need to try some! They make so many at this time of year, it's almost guaranteed warm when you buy it. It's along the main road (chemin Principale if i'm not mistaken) in St Joseph du Lac. I think it may be this place, Olivier, correct me if i'm wrong! http://tarterieduvergerdesmusiques.com/contact.html
In search of HONEY CRISP APPLES in downtown Montreal (including Atwater Market)
Is the bakery along the main road near all the orchards in St Joseph du lac? If so, I know exactly which one you are talking about. We make the trek there every year for their phenomenal apple bread, it's become our fall tradition!
Labour Day last minute dinner - please help!
I always like Griffintown Cafe. If possible, i'd call to make a reservation though.
Kem CoBa – Delectable ice cream in Mile-End
I'd say it's a tie between the dark choco/raspberry and blueberry/honey. It has come to the point where I plan to go back every 2 weeks so I can try all the soft serve flavours. I've become a Kem CoBa groupie.
Recommendations for a beautiful birthday cake
I don't know if it is just me, but I find La Frenaies cakes all taste Duncan Hines or the like. Frosting included.
Summer 2011 Holiday Closings
This indeed includes Petit Alep. I found out the hard way.
What's the best thing you've eaten in Montreal??
Oh boy, how can you narrow it down?
I guess here's are some of mine that I can think of right now:
-Japanese taco at Kitchenette
- Leek Tartelette at Lemeac
- Braised beef rib at Kazu
- Pasta con Porcini at Da Emma

Inexpensive date ideas
For something a little different (and if it's nice out), pick up some pies at TA and cupcakes at Cocoa Locale and head to the mountain for a picnic :)
Papas Tapas?
Hi All,
I'll be heading here for a work function in a couple of days, does anyone have any feedback on this place?
Recommendations for a memorable dining experience
I was going to recommend Da Emma, but then you mentioned she wanted to try food from other cultures. Although, being an Italian girl myself who also tries to steer away from Italian restaurants, Da Emma is not your usual Italian restaurant. The 'significant other" & I tend to go here quite a bit for romantic occasions.
Other then that, I would also recommend Alep.
Montrealer in London: What I Ate
Here's an update (a little long!) of my four days of eating in London:
Day 1:
Lunch: After landing & settling into our hotel, we went straight to the Borough Market. A beautiful golden brown roast pork caught my eye at Roast To Go, and I got the pork belly and applesauce sandwich. It was probably one of the best sandwiches I ever had. I loved the combination of the crispy skinned salty pork, with the sweet & tart applesauce.
Dinner: Not really planned, we happened to be shopping at Harrod's, so we grabbed dinner at the Cafe there. My boyfriend and I shared a caprese salad & a club sandwich. Good, but nothing spectacular.....and very overpriced. We finished off with some macarons from Laduree, which were just as amazing the ones we had @ Laduree in Paris last year.
Day 2:
Lunch: Quite dissapointing. After reviews on CH, we headed to Noodle Bar on Cranbourn, and really regretted it. The girl at the counted just gave us a choice of pre-prepared North Americanized noodles, rice, sweet & sour chicken and the like, which I did not enjoy at all. After paying & starting to eat, we realized that they had fresh hand pulled noodles in soup, which we didnt even realize they had (along with a menu of freshly prepared items). Very dissapointed that we weren't even given the option.
Dinner: We trekked over to Chiswick for pizza at Franco Manca. Great ambience, excellent service & very well priced. I ordered the pizza Margherita. The sauce was delicious, fresh tasting and authentic. The downside was that the dough tasted extremely burnt all over, and I felt that the oven may have been too hot seeing as how it was burnt, yet not fully cooked through. Not comparable to pizza i've had all over Italy but still good. Worth the cab ride to Chiswick? Probably not.
Day 3:
Lunch: Scandinavian Kitchen near Oxford Street. Fantastic. Super friendly staff, lineup out the door the whole time we were there, customers all around were squealing with joy with every bite. I had a gravlax open faced sandwich, with a dilled potato salad and a cabbage salad. Super fresh ingredients, tons of bright flavors. We finished off with a strawberry shotcake, which was perfect and light, they must have gone through 2 or 3 cakes in the half hour we were there.
Dinner: The Orange on Pimlico road. I had some really nice (yet simple) crisp skinned salmon, and my boyfriend had a peppered steak and baby onion pie, which was really nice since we dont usually have savory pies like these back home. It was delicious. We ate in the upstairs dining room which was bright, beautifully decorated and casually elegant.
Day 4:
Lunch: A friend of mine living in London treated us to lunch at a proper English pub around the corner from Edgeware Road tube stop. Had the burger, which was studded with fresh parsley and topped with a red onion jam. Enjoyed my burger with my first Pimm's cup, which definitely wont be my last. We dont have Pimm's in Montreal, so i'll have to do some research on how I can get my hands on some back home!
Visiting MTL Fathers day weekend
At Da Emma, you cannot leave unless you have tried the Pasta con Porcini. When the SO & I go, we usually get one starter (usually one small bowl of the pasta each), and then share a main, which comes with sides. The mains we always get are always one of their beautifully roasted meats.
I have only been to Graziella once (and it was at lunch time). I had the Osso Buco, which was delicious.
Visiting MTL Fathers day weekend
For Old Montreal & Italian I would do either Graziella or Da Emma. Both excellent. Da Emma is more rustic Roman, while Graziella is more modern.
