vegetarian-friendly fine dining in Cape May?

I realize that this thread is a year old but am replying because I know how difficult it can be to find good restaurants with interesting options for vegans and vegetarians. Bella Vida Cafe in Cape May is fantastic. I have not had such a wonderful meal for a long time. I had sesame coated tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. It was superb. I would suggest getting this though only if you know that you like wasabi and soy sauce. I got the tuna rare, almost sushi style, and it was fantastic. One daughter tried the crab cakes which were full of fresh crab and wonderful. My husband had a blackened tilapia quesadilla which was top quality and the biggest quesadilla I have ever seen. Our vegan daughter had several wonderful dishes to choose from. She chose a rice and black bean dish with fried plaintains. She said it was fabulous. I highly recommend this restaurant even if you do not have vegetarians to feed. It is very casual with unbelievably great food.

Cape May Blue Crabs

I am in Cape May for the first time for a long weekend. I am looking for a restaurant/bar/shack where we can have Maryland style blue crabs where you sit at a table covered in paper and use a wooden hammer to crack open the crabs. Please help. I know there must be something around here.

Recommendations for fabulous food in Kennebunkport

The Clam Shack also has the best fried clams, fried shrimp and fried scallops anywhere. I feel they give a good amount of lobster in the lobster roll, but I can also see how someone could eat three of them. They are delicious. I feel the Clam Shack should be included in a culinary adventure in Kennebunkport.

I am guessing you already had your function and wonder what you decided to do? I agree with the others in that there are no really nice kosher restaurants in Boston. There are a few casual places in Brookline, but nothing approaching what you can get in New York City. I also suggest working with Andrew. He should be able to help you.

Family Get-together - Andover, Stoneham, Woburn, Burlington, Billerica, Lowell areas

My cousin offered her house and yard for this gathering!!! It will be perfect. Now I need to find a casual caterer. I want good food nicely presented. I plan to stick with cold foods only, like salads and sandwiches, etc. I am looking at Roche Brothers. Has anyone had any experience with Roche Brothers? Any other suggestions for casual caterers who will deliver to the Andover area?

We went to Meson Madrid last night. Thank you so much for the suggestion. The three of us who are not vegan enjoyed our food very much. The lobster was excellent, and I am very picky about my lobsters. Others at the table got paella valenciana and chicken creole and enjoyed their choices very much. The food was excellent. However, the service was not.

They brought our lobster, paella, and chicken to the table and served it. They did not bring the vegan's vegetarian paella. We waited and nothing happened. Finally the waiter came to tell us that there was an accident in the kitchen and the paella had been dropped; they were remaking it. We asked if there was anything else our vegan could have while waiting and apparently there was not. She would have been happy with a plate of vegetables at that point. I am not sure why the waiter did not suggest it. We started eating our meals so they would not get cold. Approximately 25 minutes or so after we got our food and were just about done eating, our vegan received her paella. She hates broccoli. She very clearly specified that she did not want broccoli in the paella. Guess what the dominant vegetable in the paella was. Broccoli. They offered to take it back and make her another one, but at this point, she just wanted something to eat. Needless to say, she did not enjoy her vegan paella very much.

There were several other service issues that we were mostly able to take in stride. I will not enumerate them all here. However, what made the day for our vegan was when the waiter was pouring ice water for us towards the end of the meal, he managed to spill ice water on our vegan's arm. It was like anything that could go wrong for her did.

So, the food was very good. The service was not. I would probably go back for the excellent lobster and other traditional dishes at fair prices. However, our vegan will never go there again. Maybe next year for Mothers Day I will have lobster either a week earlier or later, without her, and go somewhere else for Mothers Day. I do appreciate receiving all the suggestions.

Thank you all for your suggestions. However, most of these restaurants do not have anything for our vegan. We would have to special order something which can be difficult on a Saturday night. But goodhealthgourmet, thank you, thank you, thank you. Meson Madrid looks perfect. I have never been there, but it looks like there is something for everyone. I just have to make sure they do not use butter in the vegetarian paella but I am going to guess that they do not.

We are celebrating Mothers Day on Saturday night instead of Sunday. I would love to have real Maine lobster for Mothers Day. However, one daughter is vegan. Cathay 22 - does it have dim sum with the carts and all that jazz?

Fabulous dim sum, just like Chinatown, at Dim Sum Dynasty in Ridgewood, NJ. They bring the carts around on Saturdays and Sundays around lunch time. We have not been to Chinatown since we found this place.

I would like to host a very casual family get-together on a Sunday in July somewhere around the above areas. I would like it to feel like a house party. I would use my own house, but I live in New Jersey and want to host a party for my extended family in the Andover area. I am thinking an Open House Sunday Brunch type function would be good. There will be approximately 20 to 30 people of all ages, including children. I would not expect all of them to be there the whole time. I want this to be nice, but want to keep it reasonably priced. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I am planning a casual midweek dinner for a number of couples from my husband's place of work. Our ages range from 30's to 60's. Best lobster roll near Wells, ME

In my opinion, you have two very good options. The Clam Shack in Kennebunk, at the bridge leading into Kennebunkport, and Allison's in Kennebunkport. At the Clam Shack, you order your food and sit outside. You can even sit in your convertible if you can find a place to park there. Allison's is a traditional restaurant with an excellent lobster roll right in Dock Square.

Bandaloop has very good food, but there is no view. We have been there several times and well-behaved children were always present. I think Cape Arundel Inn as described above would be a better choice for what you are looking for.
