Take out BBQ between Thousand Oaks and Burbank

The Pit BBQ on alameda and Glenoaks in Burbank has pulled pork or brisket empanadas served with chimichurri. Apparently the family came from Argentina to Texas. They also have wings which I haven't tried.

Pyromania at Chengdu Taste in Alhambra

I really enjoyed the wild yam and also the cold garlic noodles. This is a great place. Didnt get to try the fried cumin lamb as it was not available today. I enjoyed many of the dishes mentioned here.

Newport tan cang lobster dish

So I searched the site and the only post was in home cooking with no replys. I thought maybe those on the LA board might know some details about this dish. Is it fried in a wok first? I remember the fried garlic that gets mixed in. Is this a typical Cantonese dish or southeast Asian?

budget brunch venice for 10+

My friend is visiting Venice and would like suggestions for budget friendly brunch in Venice (20/person). It's a large party of around 13 and one member has veg and gluten-free requirements. As I do not live near Venice, I don't know where to suggest. I believe they are going to Figtree Cafe. I would probably go to Gjelina. But I know that chowhounds here might know better. Thanks!

Mama Hong's is a new Vietnamese place. I had the pork chop rice and friend had the pho. Both were good. I'm gonna try the banh mi tomorrow. I don't think theres banh mi around here. This place is on San Fernando next to kabuki.
Also the lime aid soda was good.

Shanghai No. 1 Seafood Village (first impressions)

I went for lunch with a large party. We skipped the dim sum because it was a celebratory meal. I arrived too late to look at the big menu and order, but enjoyed some of the dishes. Unfortunately the crab and rice cake dish was a big fail. Not much crab for a 60 dollar dish. I dont know how this dish is suppose to be, but it didnt fly with the guests.
I had tried to steer the host of the dinner away from this place for non-dim sum. Unfortunately, there is alot of hype surrounding this place in the sgv. Still I wouldnt mind going back for lunch and trying some shanghai snack type dishes like shengjian bao.

Non-spicy chinese rec in SGV

I haven't been to mei long for a really long time. I did go to Yu Garden earlier this year quite often with my Shanghainese family and friends. Even though I like both places, family and friends prefer Yu Garden. So we end up there alot. I always liked that sweet fried bread at Mei Long.

Maybe someone who has been to both recently might want to chime in.

Yes on the non dim sum during the day. You just have to ask for the big menu. And on the strategy, be prepared to bag alot of leftovers?

sushi plus cooked food

So my guest and I finally made it to Kiriko last saturday. I can understand why it's so popular here. We had the omakase. We both really enjoyed their soba salad with squid, uni, and tomato. We ate too much. It came out to be about 154 for 2, plus another 90 for drinks, tax and tip. I'll definitely bring my folks here when they get back in town. I like the value here.

Thank you for all the suggestions.

Great Dim Sum == Great Dinner??

I think the question is whether a good dim sum place also has good dinner. The answer is usually yes.
