Greenville, NC: Where to buy seafood?

Hello everyone!

I just moved to Greenville, NC....

Where can I buy fresh, good-quality blue crabs? Just looking for a couple dozen that i will be
steaming at home....

As long as I'm asking.... what about fresh live lobsters?

I can't seem to find a seafood market around here.... but then again, I've only been here a month...

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!:)

it pains me to say this: Temari Japanese Cafe in Rockville is a bit pricey/overrated for such mediocre food (but service is excellent, very attentive waitresses)

yes... I know... Temari isn't not that bad, as long as you don't compare it to
real Japanese food in LA or Tokyo... :(

anyone ever had breakfast at Mimi's Cafe in Sterling, VA? (or lunch or dinner)

the reason I'm asking is that I got three free breakfast entree coupons from them.

their only location near me is in Sterling. I'm just wondering if it's worth the 10-mile there...

thanks! :)

had excellent ribs at Famous Dave's in Chantilly last night... (the second best ribs I've had in my life)

my family was shopping at Costco in Chantilly yesteraday...

as we were leavning, we noticed a Famous Daves' next to Costco(at the corner of Rt 50 and Lee Rd(?)...

I'll skip most entrees, as they were very generic chain restaurant food...

however, I was really, really, really, really, really impressed by the ribs. We ordered two full racks. They were kind of expensive(about $20 per arck). However, it was probably the second best ribs I've ever had in my entire life. I found myself licking the bones after the meat was all gone. (please don't judge me) They were very tasty....

it pains me to say this: Temari Japanese Cafe in Rockville is a bit pricey/overrated for such mediocre food (but service is excellent, very attentive waitresses)

There were 6 of us on a non-busy weekday evening. When we walked in, there were about
4 or 5 other tables with 2 to 4 people each. There was also an elderly couple sitting at the
counter.

I was the one suggesting Temari becuase I've read so many good comments here,
and also at other blog sites.

Here's a list of the items that the 6 of us ordered: miso ramen, katsu donburi, curry rice,
omu rice, unagi donburi, cha-shui(?) ramen, sashimi & fried oyster(special on the board),
several assorted rolls and side dishes. We pretty much shared everything together.

It's will take too long to describe why we didnt' like each item, so I'll just describe three.
The unagi(eel) donburi. The eel was slightly too dry and had a very rubbery texture. I suspect that it was the $5 frozen kind that you can buy at the Japanese grocery store upstairs. The Katus donburi tasted good, but the pork was very tough. The onions were not cooked long enough, so it was still kind of crunchy(raw) without the sweetness of onions. The ramen had pretty decent soup, but the noodles were way over-cooked and tasted like instant noodles that had been sitting for a while. The cha-shui(?) was very fatty.

The final bill came to $128. The check was even
pre-printed with a suggested tip of 15% to 20%.(we gave 15%)

4 out of the 6 people(myself included) have spent time living in Japan. Let's just say a
restaurant like Temari will have a hard time surviving there.

it pains me to say this: but we all thought it was bit pricey/overrated for such mediocre food but service is excellent, very attentive & friendly waitresses(hey, it's not their fault the food
isn't very good, is it?

Having said all that... if I've never had good Japanese food, I'd probably enjoy eating at
Temari.... ...... :(

How is the Japanese food at Temari these days?

judging by the lack response, I assume that Temari is no longer a good place for Japanese cuisine? :(

2 Korean BBQ Sushi Buffets: "IL MEE"(Annandale) and "YIL MI"(Chantilly): are they related to each other?

I frequently go to "IL MEE" Korean BBQ and Sushi Buffet in Annandale, VA.

There is also a "YIL MI" Korean BBQ and Sushi Buffet in Chantilly, VA. (but I've never been to this one)

They are pronuced the same way, just different spelling... Are they related to each other?

Thanks! :)

I second that! Joe's Noodle House is great. Always
lots of a Chinese customers.(a sure sign that it is
good) Excellent food, but crappy decor... (but hey,
food is more important to me)

They make the best szechuan style Spicy Rabbit.

best place in DC/VA/MD to buy live 3, 4 or 5-pound lobsters? (cooking for mother's day)

well..... the short answer is that mom prefers the lobster meat in the big claws... the smaller lobsters just don't have big claws... :)

and we eat the rest of the lobsters... :D

alternatives.....

Thanks! :)

Whats the status of eating good oysters on the half shell? Any decent local oysters around?

I used to love local seafood from Chesapeake Bay.(oysters and crabs)

Sadlyt, these days I'm reluctant to eat them now because the Bay is so polluted. :(

Anyone tried The Mandarin Chinese Halal in Springfield ??

the last time I had Chinese Halal food was about three years ago.
It was at a Chinese Halal restaurant in Los Angeles.(somewhere north
of I-10, I think)

The food there was excellent... great lamb dishes. very authentic,
not "Americanized" at all... (well.... almost all Chinese restaruants
in LA area are better than the DC area... :D )

I wonder if the place in Springfield is any good... are there other
Chinese Halal restaurants around here?(MD/DC/VA)

thanks! :)

"Oriental Regency" Chinese Restaurant in Tysons Corner went out of business

Where is China Star located?

I recently got some take-out from a small Chinese restaurant in Vienna.
It's next to a Japanese restaurant, near the Dunkin Donuts and Radio
Shack strip mall... they are very friendly and my order was ready in
a matter of minutes.... unfortunately, the food was so bad that I can't
even recall the name of the place.... :( For example, the beef was
almost as tough as beef jerky and the Kung Pao chicken had so much
sauce, I could barely see the chicken.... :(

what are the prices like at "Ray's The Steak" in Arlinton, VA? (I lost bet and have to buy steak dinners for 17 people)

no large groups eh? I'll just try that loophole and get out
of having to pay for the dinners... "sorry guys, Rays' doesn't
take large groups.... better luck next time" (they'll probably
throw me into the river) :) :) :)

"Oriental Regency" Chinese Restaurant in Tysons Corner went out of business

I don't know if anybody's aware of this or not,
but Oriental Regency has been a Korean-
owned restaruant for the last 2 to 3 years.
(owners were Koreans who spoke absolutely
no Chinese)

The cooks and waiters are still Chinese. My
friend who spoke Chinese told me that many
are "undocumented" so it's possible that the
Immigration and Customs Enforcement(ICE)
raided the place? (just like when ICE raided
a Korean business inside Springfield Mall this
months and shut down its doors for good)

Are there other Chinese restaurants in the DC
area that are not actually Chinese? (i.e. owned
and operated by non-Chinese-speaking folks?)

What are the prices like at "Ray's The Steak" in Arlinton, VA?
I lost bet and have to buy dinners for 17 people. The alternative
is to get naked and jump into the Tidal Basin next to Jefferson
Memorial... I don't want to get arrested, so I guess I'm paying
for dinners... :)

Do they have a menu online somewhere?

Thanks! :)

Do we need more steakhouses in Tysons?

I'm still waiting for someone to open up a steakhouse that serve Wagyu(Kobe) beef.

Currently, no steakhouse that I know of in the Tysons(or even the entire DC) area
has it....

I go to New York and Los Angeles alternatively every month. First meal that I always
get is a nice big juicy(pricy) piece of Kobe beef steak!(either western style or on
Teppanyaki)

So, to anwer your question... YES, we need one more steakhouse.... :D

Calories in a bowl of PHO in this area [moved from DC/Baltimoreboard]

1750 calories for the large bowl with beef flank/tripe/tendon. This is excluding all the
extra stuff that you throw into the soup, such as the sauces and bean sprouts.

"Oriental Regency" Chinese Restaurant in Tysons Corner went out of business

anybody knows why "Oriental Regency" Chinese Restaurant in
Tysons Corner went out of business?(behind HBL Mercedes/SmartCar)

My friends and I were hungry for Chinese food... so we went there
tonight and found the restaurant to be vacant... (but the signs are
still there) All the chairs, tables, carpeting, etc... were GONE...

The "Closed" sign in on the front door, but no notes explaining what
had happened....

oh well....
