Luncheon for 200 pple in LA or OC
Please help me find a reasonably priced ($20 pp) place with good food for my son's 1 year birthday party. Must seat at least 200 people. Fun/hip if possible but good food is a must. Chinese banquets are ok.
Rehearsal Luncheon in South Bay
I'd like to have a fun vibe for the rehearsal and possibly have an area cordoned off or dedicate to our party.
Rehearsal Luncheon in South Bay
It is a luncheon so we hope it will be less expensive. I'm looking for my sister in law and she wants to keep the costs low. Hoping for $15 to $20 per person.
Rehearsal Luncheon in South Bay
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good place to have lunch for around 30 people after a wedding rehearsal on Saturday at the Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes? Somewhere nearby would be ideal but willing to drive to areas in the South Bay. Thanks in advance.
Fried Chicken in the South Bay
Can anyone recommend a good place for fried chicken in the South Bay? Looking for good quality chicken (so not KFC) and not wings (no Furaibo or izakayas please). I want good Southern fried chicken that is not too greasy. Thanks!
best CAKE in OC~
Try Tomgirl Baking Company in Huntington Beach. Wonyee Tom used to be the pastry chef at some of the best restaurants in NY and LA. She now opened her own custom made cake shop in Huntington Beach. I used her for my wedding.

as jerry seinfeld would say, "what's the deal with ford's filling station?"
I've had a great food each time I've been to Ford's. Not that there aren't some dishes that may be a miss but I love the burrata flatbread and the ipswtich clams. Been there mostly for appetizers with beer and wine. The food is very hearty and I think in that way un-LA with its lighter palates and sushi loving ways.
Do good baguettes really exist in LA?
I second david t's comment.
My favorite baguette is found at a Vietnamese restaurant in Orange County - Cali Restaurant & Bakery in Westminster. I don't like their banh mi but their baguettes are incredibly crusty, light and buttery (possibly a bit too buttery). They keep well in the freezer so I'll buy two or three and put them in zip loc bags in my freezer.

The Exquisite Heat of Oaxaca - Monte Alban [Review] w/ Pics!
Your review makes me want to try this place again. I may be in the minority but I was not impressed with the chicken mole negro there - possibly because of the fact that they don't cook the chicken with it. Didn't compare to what I've had in Mexico.
Brunello Trattoria in Culver City: Naples Born Owner, Family Run, A Must-Visit Place
Thanks for the tip. I'm always looking for authentic Italian and don't always want to pay Angelini or Valentino prices for it. I'll try it.
REVIEW: M Café de Chaya, Culver City
I completely agree with you. I'm a meat eater and I really l like the food at M Cafe too.
Anniversary dinner in the South Bay
Thanks! I moved down from SF about a year ago and these are the two restaurants that I've enjoyed so far for a nicer dinner in the South Bay.

I like Cafe Pierre in Manhattan Beach for French/Italian food. I think you can get away with $100 without wine. I like their steak au poivre and their wild boar ragu parpadelle pasta.
If you like Greek/Mediterranean food, I like Petros in Manhattan Beach as well.

Nozawa Sushi A Bust
You're not alone. I went to Nozawa about 6 years ago and wasn't impressed then. I felt that the omakase was really a cover for assembly-line sushi preparation. I never understood the hype.
Indonesian, Malaysian, South American, African restaurants
I loved the Indonesian food that I had in Singapore but IMHO, Ramayani was nothing to close to that goodness.
Looking for good quality Japanese BBQ in SF
I've never been to Gyu-Kaku but for Japanese BBQ cooked by you at your table I go to Juban in Japantown.

Top-quality imported chocolate squares
Bittersweet in San Francisco sells those and more. I recommend their spicy hot chocolate too if you go there.
Italian Deli near Culver City?
Victor Jr's in Culver City is not a full Italian deli but they do offer some Italian sandwiches which I thought were Bay Cities-lite. Not as good as Bay Cities but for a close by option. Not bad.
Haves and Have Nots at Fraiche
I love their steak tartare.
Rigatoni with lamb bolognese is delicious (might be bar menu only)
Why does L.A. Bahn Mi taste worse than SF
I don't like the banh mi sandwiches at Banh Mi Che Cali. However, I do love their baguettes and that is the only thing I buy there.
I know that the OC is too far for you but the only place I get banh mi sandwiches is at Coffee Factory. The Vietnamese coffee (the one with sweetened condensed milk) there is tops and the sandwiches are the best - perfect proportion of meat to bread. It is not the big bready style of Lee's Sandwiches but more of a skinny French style baguette sandwich. I'm Vietnamese and that's where I get my fix.

Looking for a Bay-area restaurant that...
I'd look into Slanted Door. They have a private room that should seat 20. They also have a prix fixe lunch and full bar. It is at the Ferry Building with a beautiful view of the Bay. Plenty of parking lots support the Farmer's Market held there. You might be able to pull together a civil ceremony on the back pier area. I'd do the civil ceremony after the Farmer's market ends - around 2 p.m.
Best SF restaurants to bring food lovin' out-of-towners?
I like Ottimista Enoteca on Union. It is not as hip and sleek as Nopa. More of a cozy Italian wine bar vibe with a small plates menu. The food is simple but I've always enjoyed it. Great for hanging out with friends.
Late night SF restaurant
I just remembered Brazen Head. Dinner served 'til 1 a.m. It's cool because it is so hidden. There isn't even a sign. Look for the twinkling lights.
Affordable SF Ambiance?
I like Chez Maman in Potrero. Haven't been to the other locations yet. It is a casual, neighborhood bistro that is great for date. Not that far from the train station stop either but you'll have to take a bus/taxi.
looking for a good Hawaiian restaurant in LA (westside/SF Valley if possible) that caters. Needs to be authentic.
I've only had their cakes which are great but King's Hawaiian Bakery in Torrance also has a pretty successful restaurant which caters.

Comme Ca - the burger!
I just had it two days ago for lunch. If you want to be a bit healthier, you can have them replace the fries with a salad. Although the burger is great, I'm not a fan of their fries. They were a bit hard and not as skinny as you would expect for a bistro.
Favourite Cheeseburger in LA
Oh my! That's everything I like in one burger Adding to my try list.
Vietnamese - Little Saigon recs needed?
I suggest Quan Hy for central Vietnamese food. Definitely different from the usual pho and quite unique.
I love the banh beo here. These little rice crepes come in individual small plates and are topped with shrimp bits that you eat with the delicious nouc cham (fish based sauce).
I also like the bun bo hue. Bun bo hue has a nice depth of flavor and I like the citrus woody flavor the lemongrass imparts. It is not that easy to get anything close to what is in Vietnam but this place comes pretty close to me.

Late night SF restaurant
I always like Brother's Korean Restaurant for late night eats. Usually after a late night of drinking though. It's open til 2 a.m.
