Important business dinner near Boston Convention Center Wow, thanks everyone for the support! We will be at the Boston Convention Center. I think so far Sel de la Terre on State Street sounds the best but I have never been there- can anyone vouch for the food and service? It looks like it's a French place and my Canadian colleagues are from Montreal so I don't want to send them to a bad French place. ----- State Street Cafe |

Important business dinner near Boston Convention Center I know this has been covered in previous posts but I really need some help: I am setting up an important business dinner for colleagues all across the US and Canada (about 10-12 people). Can anyone recommend a place within a mile (so prefer 5 minute cab ride or walking distance)of the convention center? In previous posts chowhounds have rec Barlow's, Sportello, Legal Seafood, Sel de la Terre. I don't know the area around the Boston convention center very well since I have moved out of Boston. Ideally i would like to find something like Neptune (ambiance, price and great food) but with more space for a big group. Anybody familiar with the Boston convention center area please help! Thank you! |

I've found that Saigon Sandwiches on Larkin and Eddy is not as good as it used to be. Are there any other vietnamese sandwiches places in SF that have sandwiches the way Saigon Sandwiches used to be? |

I was just there last week and I was really disappointed. It seems to always get great reviews. Roti in West Portal and Indian Oven on Haight&Fillmore is worth more of a trip into the city. I have to say the best dosas, if that's what you're looking for, is at Vik's in Berkeley. |

Lunch/brunch in Harvard Square Z square restaurant just opened (I think last year). There are some tables out on the side. Would recommend their steak sandwich and beignets. If the weather is nice, there might be some seats outside of Bartley's hamburgers- one of the best burgers around. Would recommend the Viagra burger- blue cheese and bacon. You can also always pick something up anywhere and sit on the benches outside of Peet's coffee. Cheers! |

Dry Creek Kitchen in Healdsburg I recently ate at Dry Creek Kitchen and I found it to be the most disappointing restaurant I have ever been to. Despite the bad reviews from some of you chowhounds in February 2007, I still decided to try it and it was a disaster. What is happening? I thought Charlie Palmer made Napa his permanent resident, thus Dry Creek Kitchen would be more closely monitored by him. We were very disappointed with this place. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst dinners we have ever had a a nice restaurant. If you go to Healdsburg, don't think twice, and make sure you just go to Cyrus a couple of blocks down. You'll see an enormous contrast. |

After actually going on my trip and exploring, here are some suggestions I would recommend Siem reap: We were trying to go to Amok- and stumbled upon this fantastic place that had the best amok (Khmer Kitchen was not that great). This place was called Traditional Khmer Food located in an alley behind a row of bars (between Khmer Kitchen and Red Piano). Ao Nang (Krabi)- This place was quite the disappointment. Chiang Mai: I would have to say the food at the markets were really good. We ate at the restaurant in the Tamarind Village hotel, which had a fantastic ambience and the food was pretty good. The fish/crab cakes that we ordered were good, but stay away from the spaghetti fushion thai dishes available. Huen Penh was really good per the recs from others. It was different and very interesting. The fish curry was EXCELLENT. Ask the waiters what they recommend. They'll point you in the right direction. Otherwise, we ordered too much of the things we weren't used to eating like the preserved crab which was way too salty. |

Going to Saigon - Houndin' around the world The people I met there in Saigon kept taking me to this place called quon ngon (don't know if I'm spelling it right) but it translates to "good restaurant." the set up is really interesting and I thought the food was really good. The other places I ate at was Cafe An nam which was owned by someone I was working with- very modern place. These two places I've been to are very modern and have a tropical atmosphere. But the food is good..... |

Since there has not been a review for a good amount of time, I thought I would share my experience. The setting, as well as the service is good. It is a tranquil, southeast asian design and we sat at a nice table by the window. We ordered the "banh xeo" which was a vietnamese crepe stuffed with shrimp, chicken, and bean spouts. I thought there was a little too much coconut milk on the crepe, so it overpowered the other flavors, but it was generally good. The fish sauce was made well. My main course consisted of the "mi vit" which was a noodle soup with duck leg confit. This was one of the best "mi vit" I've ever had in my life. The only other comparable place was my trip to a small restaurant in Saigon, Vietnam last year. The duck was not marinated too long in the herbs, and the broth was very clean and balanced with level of saltiness which complemented the duck. We also ordered the alaskan halibut which was fantastic. I would say that this is one of the more authentic Vietnamese places in San Francisco. The food is good and the setting is very nice. |
