Costco cheesecake? Did I imagine it...?
do me a favor, buy a dozen eggs at brachs and a package from costco, and crack one of each egg in to two white or clear bowls and look at the difference, then cook each egg simply, scrambled, sunny side up etc, and taste the difference
youll see why i only buy costco eggs, their turnover means insanely fresh eggs
Costco cheesecake? Did I imagine it...?
yes, i shop for my school, and my parents own a small business and shop there for the business
Kosher Mexican Cheese?
oddly i often see the casa fiesta stuff at family dollars and other food carrying dollar stores
Costco cheesecake? Did I imagine it...?
marty- have you done restaurant depot? im horrified every time i go there abt the prices i pay for things, BUT sometimes buying 2 gallons of herring isnt the best idea no matter how cheap and delicious
kosher certified murray's chickens at fairway-whole chicken $1.79/lb!
that reason definitely makes sense,
supposedly, in addition to the new hashgacha will be more catering to the ksoher public, specifically involving actual catering, im told they started in paramus, but will be bringing it to douglaston next and then other stores
all i can say right now is that no chicken beats the murrays chicken, they have ou- fairway branded hotdogs that are delicious (though kinda pricey) and their ribsteaks and short ribs are better than any ive bought elsewhere and this is given the fact that i can get short-ribs on main street pretty consistently for like half the price now that seasons and arons are competing, no question is it worth the price difference
Costco cheesecake? Did I imagine it...?
in areas where the costco bakery is kosher, that bakery also sells kosher cheeseckes, in some stores, even where the bakeries arent kosher, theyll have davids cookies cheesecakes which are kosher and over the summer in virginia i rthink they also had a juniors cheesecakse with a hashgacha, but dont quote me on that last part
kosher certified murray's chickens at fairway-whole chicken $1.79/lb!
the bakery is no longer under only marmorstein at some of the fairways, theyre slowly rolling out kof k at the stores one at a time,
http://www.koshertoday.com/05-14-2012-Fairway-Takes-its-Kosher-Program-to-New-Level;-Adds-Kof-K/
when this news first went out (it was in some magazine that i picked up over pesach at seasons in queens) i spoke to someone at the the kof k and asked is it happening slowly bc corrections are being made and theyre wheeling out new rules or bc theyre just taking the time to slowly staff the stores, and he said that their inspection led them to see that existing standards were such that they could begin to become involved in the hashgacha as they slowly rolled out staff
Looking for prepared blintzes W/O filling
the target that i go to is in college point, right off on the whitestone expressway, i dont think its 8 miles from 5ts
its also in the same shopping center as a bjs, i find that this one, the one in queens has more jew-supplies, no clue if they had blintzes, bc im not a blintz person, but they have a significant amount of decent stuff
i agree about costco and bjs, part of it is in the design of the store, which means its intentional
costco- bc it doesnt have its aisles labeled, kinda forces you to wander around to find what youre looking for, and in the wandering you pick up a dozen other things, whereas bjs is organized and consistent, i go in, know what i want, and leave
Uses for slightly stale Bamba? Recipes maybe?
this will sound gross, but ive used cheese doodle crushed as a breading for fish and baked it, and it was delicious
its definitely a similar consistency, just depends on if you think the tastes would work together
i also feel like YEARS ago, when waldbaums had kosher for passover bamba very cheap after pesach, a friend crushed it up and used it as a crust at the bottom of a cheesecake for shavuot
and i feel like it was delicious
Looking for prepared blintzes W/O filling
oddly, our target had blintz wrappers, with a hashgacha, in the produce, next to a whole section of refrigerated chinese noodles, which all also have hashgachot
ok, maybe not all, but all the ones that ive checked out
GOOD Jewish Bakery in Brooklyn???
to get the breads youre looking for, you have to go to zuckerbakers in bellmore, i think its on jerusalem ave
they have those ridiculously good onion rolls and the amazing rye that actually has a taste
Prime Rib Roast for Shabbos?? Please Help!
the best prime rib roast ive done has been preheat to 450, then cook at 7 minutes per pound, then leave it in the oven for at least 2 hours without opening the oven, if you can do that with shabbos without the light turning on, which we are able to do, then try it, you wont regret it
i know 7 minutes a pound sounds insane, but the risidual heat takes care of it and will leave you with a perfect pink
Did anyone say HOME for Pesach this year? Highlights of your meals?
costco had cole slaw and potato salad that were pretty good, also something called jalapeno dip that i thought was kinda mayonaissey, but everyone else liked
and fairway had lasagna tin size kugels made by meal amrt in the freezer case for between 15 and 20 depending on the kugel
i did not get, bc i went in with cash for a specific item, but it certainly looked interesting and was fairly priced
Streit's matzah practically free
i dont know if you head out to gourmet, but they had manishevitz cake mixes for .99
ive had pretty good luck with keeping them from one pesach to another, and am planning on heading back tomorrow to buy as many of the red velvet ones as they have left
they were delicious
Streit's matzah practically free
went to the waldbaums there today and did not see the streits sale :-(
also was disappointed to not see more markdowns
What are you buying from Israel for Pesach?
not yet, but other than stuff like wines and clothes, im always hesitant bc of labeling and kitniot
am i the only one who has had that problem?
Kosher Spare ribs at Costco
im not a stuffed cabbage person, in general, i like my veggies crunchy
Best New York shopping for Kosher l'Pesach kitniyot
cloggie, try everfresh in great neck, or amalya on main street, they have all kinds of delicious looking stuff i cant have
Kosher Spare ribs at Costco
when they first started carrying the meal part packaged meal thingies, we had a chicken with mushrooms thing
it was maybe the worst packaged food ive ever had
the friend i tried them with commented that they tasted like what he imagined crocs would taste
BUT, my parents love the stuffed cabbage (i havent had it- bc im not a stuffed cabbage person) so im hopeful about the spare ribs i just bought for the second days
What pesach kitchen utensils do you have?
ours in milchig, youre making me wanna get one from costco for pesach
how much are they know?
Trader Joe's Spanakopita
the bjs quiches were very eh, i wouldnt buy them again, they were really underseasoned
Passover dishes, will these store for five days
that sounds really interesting, im totally going to try this for pesach
Trader Joe's Spanakopita
costco carries one that is kosher b ut its not the housebrand
What pesach kitchen utensils do you have?
the quality of the non-stick of the cuisinart makes it worth the premium, in my opinion
What pesach kitchen utensils do you have?
it was a joke making reference to another thread
if you continued reading the comment you know i said that i love mine and use it daily, so obviously there would be no intentionally breaking it
however- if i buy something at costco that i think should have a certain lifespan, and the lifespan isnt reached, i will return it to costco, thats one of the benefits of purchasing at costco, its why its worth it to pay a membership fee eventhough their prices arent always the best
for example, i bought my flat iron at costco, it totally died in about 8 months, i returned it, giving them the actual story of what happened, and they gave me no problem
queenscook- i think you know me better, while i like discounts, i dont lie to get them
What pesach kitchen utensils do you have?
theyre carrying the cuisinart griddler at costco, i saw it in westbury last sunday
not sure if the price it better but if it breaks over chag bc someone knocks it off the counter, hypothetically speaking, you can return it
side note LOVE my griddler, we use it during the year almost every day
