Two from my youth: freshly caught brook trout cooked in bacon fat in cast iron over a campfire with white bread and dill pickles; and the first Spanish meal I ever ate at La Fonda del Sol in the Time-Life Building in the 1960s. My first salsa!
My current drink of choice:
A Hendricks martini with cucumber garnish, and I never met a Zinfandel I didn't like (except the "white" ones).
I really wish I could:
Speak more languages.
My "Go-to" dinner party dish:
Usually an assortment of small plate Mediterranean items.
My favorite comfort food:
Potatoes in any form.
My top 5 favorite restaurants:
The Curious Kumquat, Silver City, NM; Mr. Ma, Montreal; The Turquoise Room, Winslow, AZ; Zacatecas, Albuquerque, NM; and any restaurant run by the CIA.
My most tattered cookbooks:
Are gone and replaced. My first one, The Fannie Farmer Boston Cooking School Cookbook, and my second, Joy of Cooking. I think Jerusalem is fast becoming the next one.
