Il Cane Rosso Favorite

Also - we get our soppressata from salumeria biellese in ny. Jimmy's has Volpi brand which is not bad.

Il Cane Rosso Favorite

Unfortunately I am the same jerrier with campania southlake. I am just a minority investor there and was heavily involved with them when we first opened - even getting certification from Vera pizza napoletana at one point. I pulled our certification when I saw the staff refused to follow the guidelines. Since starting cane rosso, have kind of given up on southlake. That being said, I actually am having a meeting there today to discuss the issues out there. Fingers crossed we can get it back on track...

Il Cane Rosso Favorite

Hey there...we don't have the Motorino at Times Ten...but we do have the Paulie Gee and it is my personal favorite!

Il Cane Rosso Closed?

We won't be back at Times Ten til 7/7. We need to relocate our commissary kitchen since being evicted from Chocolate Angel Too!!

Il Cane Rosso Closed?

Hi all...Yes Cane Rosso is indeed closed at Preston/Forest. It was a very popular and successful spot for us - but the owners of Chocolate Angel ultimately wanted too much control over the business we built, so I decided to shut it down vs. give up the business. We will continue at Times Ten Dallas on Wednesdays beginning 7/7 and we'll add a day at Times Ten FW as well TBD. We will open up a permanent spot...still working on some locations. As CocoaNut said...check out website, Facebook fan page, and twitter feed (@canerosso) for updates.

We really appreciate everyone's support and we will definitely be back.

Best Pizza in North Dallas?

Cane Rosso at Preston Forest is no longer open. Sorry everyone!

Best Pizza in North Dallas?

We did re-open tonight at Chocolate Angel...I received my repaired oven about 3 hours before service. Delivered through a snow storm with the door open - so it was NOT a good service night for us. The oven was running so hot in an attempt to dry it out that I singed what's remaining of my hairline.

It was a Charity Night benefitting Dallas Furniture Bank at both Cane Rosso and Zinsky's tonight. Cane Rosso will be at Times Ten Cellars on Wed starting in April.

Engagement Party Ideas Needed

Look into booking a space at Times Ten Cellars in Lakewood (www.timestencellars.com). They have their annex and you can sometimes even book the Tank Room. They have the wine and I think they'll let you bring your own beers/other drinks in. You can also get anyone you want to cater the food...I've seen Salum there a couple of times.

LOCKHART BBQ is starting to slide downhill

We went to Lockhart in the last part of August and I did Black's and Kreuz. Black's was incredible...ribs, brisket, and sausage. The brisket had a great bark and was incredibly moist. The ribs were so tender - I still think about them. Kreuz was really disappointing - brisket was like roast beef...but I still ate it all.

Russo's Coal Fired Pizza (Richardson)

I need to give this one another chance. I tried it once when it first opened - but they were likely working out the kinks. I think I was disappointed that it wasn't a "real" coal oven...but mostly gas with a few stray lumps of coal. Also, the margherita pizza had fresh tomatoes on it which kind of threw me off. The manager (or owner - he was patrolling the dining room in a white chef's coat) looked extremely familiar but I couldn't place him. They had these gigantic slices at lunch that looked interesting - but I never really understood the fascination with "by the slice" - it's basically reheating previously cooked pizza. I will do another fly by now that they've been opened awhlie - TG does have some pizza skillz :)

Urban Crust - Plano

Urban Crust has been one of my favorite new pizzerias to open. Even though they use a gas-fired oven, they also use some logs and the pizzaioli seem to have a good feel for the oven. I've had consistently good pizza there - typically go with plain cheese and Jimmy's sausage. My wife likes the salads and they have a few other things on the menu. No sandwiches though - which I think would be good at lunch. I tried the black & blue pizza once but it was just too tricked up. The inside is very cool and they have a neat bar on the roof that I hear gets really crowded on the weekend. They have Widmer Bros. on a tap that comes out of their frozen bar...gimmicky but it is pretty cool. This is definitely worth checking out.

What are everyones favorite restaurants in Frisco?

I like Randy White's BBQ just north of Preston/Main. Great cornbread and rolls...and BBQ better than Dickey's for sure.

BREAD & BUNS - DFW

You should also check Voila Bakery in Allen. They have amazing baguettes but also have pain au lait rolls for hamburger buns. Jean-Christophe supplies these buns to a lot of restaurants for their burgers. www.voila-bakery.com

DFW - Pizza Dough

You will not find better sausage in Dallas than at Jimmy's - much better than CM and Whole Foods and I think $1 per pound cheaper. Whenever I buy sausage there I always get a loaded spicy sausage sandwich to go. For pizza dough - check out www.pizzamaking.com/forum - recipes for every kind of dough imaginable and even some from restaurants.

Anyone been to Pulcinella on Henderson yet?

I had been dying to try Pulcinella...but also left disappointed. The sauce was the best part about the pizza - I believe it is just simple crushed San Marzanos. I was there right when they opened on Sunday evening - so I don't think the oven was actually at the 800 degrees or so that you need to make real Neapolitan pizza. The crust was not good.

This is probably heresy, but the most authentic Neapolitan pizza I've had in Dallas is at Cavalli Pizza in Irving (www.cavallipizza.com). Yes I like it better than Olivella's - but it is in a strange location.
