Looking for romantic restaurant for tonight.

Romantic but not too formal in Hollywood, West Hollywood or Santa Monica. Bonus if the cuisine is a little adventurous. ..if I were in nyc, I'd pick Babbo - Pizzeria Mozza is a little too casual and the Osteria isn't quite the vibe I want either. Price isn't really an issue but I don't judge a meal by the bill so I'm more interested in quality than bragging about where we went.

Thanks!

Tama Sushi - Closed?

Anyone know if Tama is closed? - I'm getting a disconnected message when I call.

Yummy, Inexpensive Sushi - West Hollywood

Hi All! I just moved to LA from NYC and was looking forward to the delicious, inexpensive sushi joints Angelenos brag about but ...where are they? Any recs? I'm in West Hollywood.

Etiquette and recs for a birthday dinner?

Check out Xunta. They don't require prix fix for groups (I know you said you want that but actually you prob don't because I'll bet your head count is fluctuating and with a prix fix, you usually need to guarantee a set number of people), they have big tables and the place is really fun.

Romantic & Cool restaurant for a Friday night date?

Degustation is a great idea. If you can't get a res there, ask them for a res at Jack's. Great food at both places and neither are terribly obvious date choices.

Dinner at Babbo

There is seating immediately on the right that might work - you won't have to make it past the bar area or worry about lots of staff traffic. Good luck :)

Trying to Impress - Trendy& Delicious?

Mas. Great service, fun, sophisticated menu, sexy atmosphere and it won't look like you're trying.

in need of some good cuban food

A Cuban friend of mine introduced me to Havana Alma de Cuba a while ago - I love their ropa vieja and use it as the "control" when I try other places. It's on Christopher just west of Bleeker - South side of street.

nyc caterer

I love Andrea's Catering in the West Village. I used to work in special events and find her to be very professional, fairly priced with great food and really creative and beautiful presentations. She's a nice person too.

Where to take visiting Italian family??

I think your crew would be happy with the trendiness of any of the ones I listed.....aside from Sapa they're under 14th, reasonably priced with young, hip clientele and great possibilities for going out after dinner...let me know if you think they're too fancy and I'll brainstorm a bit more.

Craft - any new reviews

I went a few times when they first opened and hadn't been there again until about a month ago. I was really impressed with the quality and it's always fun finding new things to try on a menu - I suggest you give it a shot.

Where to take visiting Italian family??

What about Stanton Social, Bond St. Degustation, Woo Lae Oak, Public, Sapa, or Sascha? They're all a pretty good scene and in good neighborhoods to go out in after.

Il Bagatto

I love Il Bagatto! I've been a bunch of times and never had to wait more than 15 minutes (I usually make a reservation) and staff has always been great. I think the menu is a little more exciting than Frank (the specials in particular) which I used to love until all of the wanna-be hipsters and foodies found it. Actually, maybe I should thank them because that's what prompted me to find a new neighborhood place. In addition to great food, Il Bagatto is very cute and good for a quiet dinner for two or a group. Whatever you do, don't go to Max - the food, especially the lasagna is awful and their wine list is boring. Ugh, just thinking about it puts that terrible starchy gummy flavor back in my mouth -ick.

Foods most commonly prepared badly... that are great when made well. (Who knew? What's the key?)

I'm saying you can't put mayo in your guacamole. Ick ...and what a waste of an avocado!

i want to have a culinary EXPERIENCE.

Agreed. After going to Ducasse, I wanted to give it a name other than "restaurant" because it was so much better and different than any other place in the city including Per Se and Jean George. Everyone and everything was top notch.

Alain Ducasse would be my suggestion but I heard that it went downhill after last December because of a change of staffing or something - do other hounds know?

One dinner in TRIBECA: Landmarc or Upstairs at Bouley??

I agree with Lucia. Food is good but not worth going back for (yes, I had the goat cheese profiteroles everyone raves about and wasn't impressed) at Landmarc and service was not good when I was there. By "not good" I mean that our waitress was obviously new to waiting tables, shy and rarely visited our table. Also, the timing of our food was way off. Go to Bouley.

Thanks, Pan. I agree on the Veselka mystery and am looking forward to trying KK's. I hate that they don't let you taste the cheese at EV Cheese.

Great Pound Cake?

The address is 29 West 125th Street between 5th and Lenox.

All of the cakes looked homemade (although huge) type yummy. I'd love to hear a report if try anything else!

Quick Meals near Gramercy Park

That's a bummer. I've been there a handful of times but I looking back, I guess I usually get a bagel or scone and a latte..things that are a little tough to mess up and I remember being good...good enough to go back and I like the atmosphere. I suppose the take home message is that Sunburst is okay for snacks but not meals..
