Grill 23 Restaurant Week
Do you really think so? I think Ruth Chris gives you exactly what you would get for 2-3 times the price when it is not restaurant week. I have been 3 times and have always had delicious steak or crab cakes with great service for about $20 for lunch and $33 for dinner where these would normally cost about $80 with the appitizer and dessert added in.
Chowhound "bum steers"
The key was you did not go until after they moved. It was much better in East Boston than in Revere!
Ruth's Chris, Restaurant Week
I have been 4 times during restaurant week - 3 times was great - 1 time good.
I have always gone at lunch and since they offer the same menu for lunch and dinner, lunch is a GREAT value. The cost is about 40% of what you would pay during a non restaurant week visit.
The difference between is being great and good was the server. On 3 ocassions we were treated wonderfully. On the 4th I it was like the waiter did not want to be their since it was restaurant week and/or did not want to serve us since we were restarurant week patrons. Even with this less than great service, it was still a VERY nice time and I would highly recommend going to Ruth Chris during restaurant week.
BTW - both the steak and crab cakes are WONDERFUL!!!
Who is taking Ken Ramen's place?
Okonomiyaki is so easy to make, you should definitely make it yourself. It will taste just as good or better than at a restaurant and MUCH cheaper!
Floating Rock Cambridge Location - Is it EVER going to open?
Thanks for the replies.
I wish we could chip in and get them the necessary money. As the restaurant stays closed, I'm thinking their money situation gets even worse.
If Christina's can ask for donations (I hope my memory is correct on that one) then why not Floating Rock?

Floating Rock Cambridge Location - Is it EVER going to open?
Does anyone know why it is taking so long for the Cambridge Floating Rock location to open? I am starting to worry that they are going to go bankrupt prior to opening.

Agave Mexican Grille in Malden -- stay away!
Update, Just as bad as ever.
I figured after a few months in business, they must have made the food better - was I ever WRONG - WORST restaurant meal EVER!
The salsa - worse than anything I have ever eaten from a jar - tasted like tomato sauce.
Chicken Taco - the chicken tasted rancid - like they had put in amonia. The manager came by and asked how the food was, I said the chicken tasted really bad. He said he would go sample some in the kitchen - saw him later and he did not come back to us - guess he liked the chicken?
Refried beans - DRY.
Rice - HARD
Black Beans - HARD.
I am amazed that after 4 months they have done nothing to make the food any better!
semi-dressy restaurant driving distance from Lexington?
I recommend that you do go to Flora for extended restaurant week. We went last weekend and the food was great. They had 2 special appetizers and both were so delicious - one was a fig salad and the other was fried calamari. We both had fish - blue fish and trout and these also were very good.
Bistro 5
I agree with you. I went there about 3 years ago and the decor was the best thing about the place. The food was okay, but, like you said, not a good value. I will not be returning.
Authentic Japanese Sushi?
My wife is from Japan and she really like the sushi from Ebisuya in Medford. Not a restaurant but very delicious and inexpensive sushi.
Need Dim Sum tutorial so don't make an idiot of myself w/ new stepson
I have been to Chow Chow City, Hei La Moon and Empire. Empire is by far my favorite. First of all, I love the atmosphere. Secondly the food is great. The other thing I really like is the manager, if you ask him for something he will have them bring it to you. We told him we wanted congee and he tracked down the cart and had it sent over. Then we wanted mango dessert and he also had someone bring over.
This is a reply as I though I liked Winsor but it's Empire that I like.
Does Massimo in Malden Have An Outdoor Patio?
Good decision on your part. They also do not have very good food.
I went once and I will never return - I would not eat there for free.
For example, I ordered a meal with scallop - what cam out were the 100 to the pound variety - I was SHOCKED!
Minado in Natick
Joebloe,
Makes a very good point. The hand rolls are by far the best sushi at Minado. They will let you get 2 each time you order. You can go back as many times as you like. The spicy tuna is very good.
Minado in Natick
I know someone who is a host there. They no longer have a policy to charge you if you do not eat all of there bad rice.
Minado in Natick
There is a lot of sushi and its fresh (new sushi is put out all continuously) - that the good.
The bad is, the rice is pretty bad. The quality of the fish is fair to good. The quality of the sashimi - not offered at lunch only at dinner is very spotty. Some times good, other times fairly bad. Also the rice is pressed by machine and not by hand which is how most sushi restaurants do it.
Thus, are your aunt and uncle quality over quantity or quantity over quality people?
I have been about 8 times over the last few years but have not been in about 6 months and am not sure if I will ever go again.
February 2010 Openings and Closings
Don't know the name but they are doing walk-in interviews. Thus, if someone wants to work at a Mexican restaurant, they could go interview and then post the companies name here.
Sushi...but the place needs to have non Japanese options as well...
I was just at All Seasons Table 2 days ago. I had the sashimi and it was the best I have ever had there - eaten sashimi there at least 10 times.
The taste and appearance was better - maybe a new sushi chef since I had eaten about 2 months ago.
They definately have jazz as they were setting up when I was leaving on Thursday night. Lisa13 stated the jazz was loud - I never thought it was loud. However, I have never sat at a table really close to the musicians.
Ebisuya Market
I went by Sunday morning and the space is very nice - large and very clean and well organized.
Also the staff was very knowledgeable and helpful.
I wish them great success!
Anyone have info on the Highland Cafe space in Malden?
I have not been. However, I live around the corner. For the last week it has been very busy every night. Even the bar has been very busy.
I wish them all the best.
The Independent -- WHAT HAPPENED?
I hear you loud and clear. About 5 years ago we loved the Independent - the food was great at a very reasonable price. Then suddenly, the place went down hill very fast. Since that time, I have not seen good review here and we have not returned.
Anyone have info on the Highland Cafe space in Malden?
Went by last night and saw the new sign, Ravi's Pasta and Pizzeria. Not sure about the name - the place looks great but the name makes me think of a sub shop and not a restaurant.
However, name aside, I hope the food will be great as a live just down the street.
Old Super 88 - New Hong Kong Market - Malden
I hope you are correct.
The frozen foods and produce at the Malden location have not been improved yet. Hopefully next week.
Meats even during the last few months have always looked good, hopefully they will stay that way. I say look as I have never purchased fresh meat there. However, I have purchases sliced froze beef and it has always been very tasty.
Old Super 88 - New Hong Kong Market - Malden
The Hong Kong Market is really starting to takes shape. The store is probably about 60% stocked. They got rid of almost everything that was in the old Super 88.
This store has much more variety than Super 88 ever had. Has more Japanese than before but still very little and almost no Korean. It definately had much more Thai, Vietnamese and Malaysian than the Super 88.
As for Chinese products it has many more products than super 88 ever had.
Lets hope this new company can keep the store stocked.
I'm guessing that by next weekend the store will be fully stocked.
Hong Kong Market Coming to Malden - Super 88 Location
So far have not seen any Cambodian/Lao/Thai products. All the new products I have seen appear Chinese.
The bags say "Hong Kong Market" but do not have an address or phone number or such and thus I can not tell if it is part of any other company or not.
Hong Kong Market Coming to Malden - Super 88 Location
Went by again today.
Bags say, "Hong Kong Market"
More importantly more and more food being put onto the shelves.
This is good news!
Hong Kong Market Coming to Malden - Super 88 Location
Update - I went by Super 88 today and it stilll says "Hong Kong Market Coming Soon". However, it appears that the switch over has already take place.
I reported that on Thursday there was no rice and no tofu. Well today there was lots of rice and tofu. Also there were many pallets of food waiting to be stocked.
Hong Kong Market Coming to Malden - Super 88 Location
I live in Malden and thus Super 88 is WAS very convenient for me. When they actually had product in the store! I hope that Hong Kong Market will also be good, only time will tell. Will it really open and will they have the $ to stock the store.
I also hope that Ebisuya opens and is well stocked. It also will be in walking distance from my house.
However, for large purchases, I am really looking forward to H-mart opening. It should definately be well stocked and the prices and quality should be excellent.
Only time will tell on all 3 matters.
Hong Kong Market Coming to Malden - Super 88 Location
It is supposed to open in Everett. Hopefully they will have the funds to open as this is a very tough time to get loans.
Striperguy - sorry for my exaggeration. Maybe there are a few good Asian markets. However, many good ones have closed in the last few years and we could definately use a few new good ones.
