New Haven Restaurant Week 2012
has anyone gone to restaurant week? I did lunch at Pacifico today which was very good, also going to try Oaxaca & Lorcio - any one eat anything particularly good or bad?
Looking for Mae Ploy Curry Paste in Central CT
I go to: Asia Store LLC (203) 468-8745 20 Foxon Blvd (Route 80) (right on the line of new haven & east haven) in the same strip mall as Domino's -she especially stocks lots of Thai based - asian groceries.
3 breakfats, 2 lunches and 2 dinners in Newport. Please advise.
Love Gary's handy lunch for eggs & Linguica also HIGHLY recommend Perro Salado.
Best Burger in CT
My vote goes to Jack Rabbits - just went and it was wonderful. Boomerang burger was delish, fries & shakes good too...
Snacking stroll suggestions Downtown Seattle?
excellent ideas - I thank you all for sharing! Will report back next week when we're back.

Any food truck yummy-ness in that area?
Snacking stroll suggestions Downtown Seattle?
CT Chowhound will be in town for a wedding - have never been to seattle - any suggestions for a snacky stroll through Downtown? Alas no car. Under $10 per snack would be preferred...
I will probably have 3 hours tops on a Friday to do this - open to eating anything & everything that is worthwhile..
We do this in NYC all the time but not sure if Seattle has that kind of interesting eating available...
Many thanks!!
Nice wines by the glass & good nibbly things -> which one?
Hi Boston Hounds - will be in town on a Friday night w/my hubby- we'd love to sit at the bar somewhere for some small plates/wines by the glass (IN NYC we go to Otto - but this doesn't have to be italian) doesn't have to be sedate but rowdy isn't ideal.
Would any of these fit the bill?
Coppa
marliave
Russell House
Blue Inc
Suggestions are welcome - we'll be downtown & carless but a reasonable cab ride/Tjourney is fine.
many thanks from a CT hound!

Bake sale bestsellers
magic bars, mini cheesecakes, lemon squares, tea cake loaves - lemon blueberry, orange cranberry etc (sold whole), cake balls on a stick, kettle corn or popcorn balls.
all have always worked at our PTO sales (grown ups are usually our customers) - don't forget the donation Jar : "save your calories but help a good cause"
Cooking From The Farmer's Markets . . . what's on your table these days?
mm this week has been great so far:
Corn chowder
Corn Pudding
Ratatouille (more like a summer veggie stew with cherry tomatoes)
Summer squash casserole
zucchini frittatas
Cucumber raita
I need more meals in a day to eat everything I want to make!!
Anyone been to Tarry Lodge westport yet?
Thinking about hitting it this week - -
Didn't see any cheeses/antpasto meats on the menu is that right?
how does it compare to otto?
What's for Dinner? Part 99! [old]
they are skewered grilled pork cubes in an herb-y vinegar marinade - they were delish!
What's for Dinner? Part 99! [old]
Pork Spiedies (rec from this month's saveur)
Cowboy potatoes with cumin
corn
Green salad w/nectarines & goat cheese
Looking for a Manero's type Gorgonzola Dressing
I used to go there too and I seem to remember it being an italian vinaigrette (fairly simple oil, vinegar, s& p & a touch of mustard powder/garlic - but definitely red vinegar-y) with grated gorgonzola on top. Don't remember the cheese being part of the dressing but rather GRATED not crumbled on top of the dressing on the salad...
Miss that place.
Is there a decent restaurant on the CT shore?
Had a great meal about 3 weeks ago at Bistro Mediterranean and Tapas Bar in East Haven - - delish - good wine , & very well priced. A pleasant surprise.
Agree Guilford/Madison are total bummers moderate tier eating-wise.
Branford at least has Darbar, Yooki Yama & Petit Bistro...
yummy Gelato Rt.80 North Branford
I was there about 3pm - owner was telling me they usually stay open until 5:30 - 6pm....
Found their number when I did a quick search (203) 433-4051 call b4 you schlep.
yummy Gelato Rt.80 North Branford
Have to give an update - was there today with my SUPER-picky mom.
Excellent gelato - this time I had the bacio & coconut. My mom bought several pastries including delicious sfogliatelle , a tart-type pastry with almond I hadn't seen before & traditional canolli , she also had an espresso.
Highly recommend them - hidden in a strip mall on rt 80 ON the East Haven // North Branford line. Very close to sportsplex if you need to kill some time while your kid is at a birthday party.
Peking Duck House - Orange CT good eats
thanks for the tip linguist - tried Shangri La 2 x just to be sure and wasn't impressed. It was ok & I thought pricey. (I had been counting down to their opening I was *so* wanting to like it)
Maybe I'll try 1 more time. Both times I went were for lunch - not sure if that matters.
I moved here from fairfield county and previously from NYC so I'm a little hard to please I think.
thanks for the responses!
Peking Duck House - Orange CT good eats
Taste of China was ok (maybe it was an off night but it was def. lackluster to me) but not worth the schlep for me. If I go west the same distance I get all the choices of orange/milford - & I can make my trader Joe stop :)
Samurai I have read your mention of but just haven't got there yet! too many places to try - not enough time!
Hope Peking Duck makes it too -one of the reasons I wanted to give a shout out.

Peking Duck House - Orange CT good eats
Just came back from my second delicious lunch at Peking Duck House -
I've been to the usual places in Orange/Milford several times before but must say I always get consistently good food AND service here at Peking Duck House.
They have some interesting dishes lurking on the menu - Chili salt pork chop, their roast pork is delicious and juicy too.
Trying to convince them to open a place up the shoreline east of New haven where there is a real lack of good chinese food.
Unusual Variety of Tomato Plants to Buy in New Haven area
didn't go yet since rivercrest covered my Heirloom tomato needs - may stop down there in the next 2 weeks for some tarragon & pineapple mint.
In Need of Ideas for Lunch With No Set Timetable and No Last Minute Cooking - Ready When They Are
agree with quiche but also suggesting empanadas - can be baked in the am and served at room temp w/a green salad.
Unusual Variety of Tomato Plants to Buy in New Haven area

Best Chicken Marinade for the grill
this is my favorite lately for bone in pieces or a whole chicken: Peruvian Pollo ala brasa. Only change I make is adding the juice of half a lime:

Unusual Variety of Tomato Plants to Buy in New Haven area
Just called Gilbertie's in Westport - tomato plants will be in May 9 - had several heirloom types last year. Saw stripeys, cherokee, brandywine, mortgage lifter, yellow cherry (not sure if they were sungold though) last spring.
any word on Ranchero's Mexican Bistro in Guilford?
Behind the stores on the green across Ballou's. Anyone been yet??
Barcelona Tapas Recs: need some suggestions pls.
we went last night & it was excellent. As good if not better than the fairfield county branches.
The menu was diffferent that what was online - here's what we ended up with.
-Chorizo & figs (crowd favorite)
-Duck Fat potatoes (good but unsure if a re-order)
-Clams w/Salsa verde (WOW mint & clams?!)
-Calamari - really good
-Potato tortilla -very yummy
-Seafood Paella (we split a 2 person entree like a large tapa) I make my own paella after getting disappointed in restaurants - this one was perfect, rice was not mushy, very flavorful.
-Beet Salad (good but I'll get something else next time)
-olives, roasted garlic
Blood orange margarita was ridiculous it was so tasty , sangria was good for the price.
Sunday they do a PIG ROAST along with the bottles of wine at half price. It's on my list of to dos.
thanks for the suggestions chow hounds.
