Vancouver - 3 days down memory lane
I lived in Vancouver for 6 years and moved to the US 3 years ago. I will be back in a few weeks and have 3 days to eat myself stupid (er).
Way back when, I would have chosen these restaurants as "must visits" to anyone asking for suggestions. They are not necessarily the fanciest places but the best of Vancouver as I saw it:

Go fish (on a nice day I just loved the experience)

Blue Water
Cioppinis (sp?) in Yaletown

Whats changed. Are these still the ones or is there a must try?
I am also looking for the best place to get a) shanghai soup noodles and b) szechuan food close to downtown. Any ideas welcome.

Folks,
Taking 15 clients to dinner next month and need a good restaurant to take them to after a meeting. Money no object although we would like somewhere where we can continue business conversation and not be drowned out by noise or attitude. We will be in the Westminster area so anywhere around there would be good.

London - Dinner with Dad - A challenge for you?
Folks,
I am taking my Dad out for dinner in London next week and need some help. I have lived in Canada for 6 years so my local knowledge is, well, nill. Here are the parameters:
- He is in his 60's and loves good food and lively atmospheres (think Wolsley, not Gavroche like food shrines).
- Price not an issue but would like something in central London.
- Not "fussy" food (heavy sauces or Fat Duck type creative cuisine).
You can see I have a challenge for you!
Originally thought about Locanda Locatelli but that does not open until 7 and we need a 6pm reservation. Ideas?

You know, Ive had a few bad experiences at McCradys. I would opt for High Cotton ir SNOB instead, Ive never had a bad meal in either of those places. You may like to try Fulton Five also.
FIG is awesome though, good choice.

New Italian restaurant on market street with the really long bar (next to Planters Inn). And is it worth a visit?
Soup Dumplings
Wondering if there is anywhere in San Fransisco that serves soup dumplings similar to the ones at Joes Shanghai in NYC?
While Im at it, can anyone send me links to board comments on the current chowhound faves in SF? I am a vancouver based CH'er coming to town for a few days.

Vancouver - Fried Chicken?
Folks, I have a craving and need your help. Where can I get decent fried chicken in Vancouver other than making it myself?
I will certainly chuckle quietly to myself to the comments that recommend KFC (unlucky fried kitten) but am really looking for the kind of fried chicken you get in the south....Any ideas?

Vancouver, need an intimate dinning recommendation downtown
For a really romantic/intimate experience how about this: Martinis at Bachus (Wedgewood hotel)and then off to Villa Del Lupo for a superb italian meal. Can you get more intimate than that!
If you fancy more of a west coast experience then C is a good alternative to Villa Del Lupo.
Vancouver with a 3 year old/breakfast too
I ate at the Sunshine Diner yesterday for breakfast with my 3 year year old, its my local spot. Very kid friendly (they have toys), simple and reasonable breakfast diner food in Kitsilano (on Broadway). You could also try Sophies Cosmic Cafe on West 4th.
Stephen Pyles - review
Just a big,warm, gooey thank you to all the Chowhounders that recommended that I visit Stephen Pyles on my last trip to Dallas. What a great place.....The room is beautiful, cool but welcoming, hip but unpretentious. the staff are friendly but professional, I call it The "Four Seasons understated service" attitude.
The food, well....out of this world. Took 4 clients who each had a different mail. The cowboy steak with onion rings brought the table down. My Pork osso bucco with sweet potato polenta was fabulous and Im not usually a fan of polenta. To start we had a bunch of ceviche and I had to hav ethe crab tart with garlic custard. Simply fabulous. The bill was understandably large ($600) as we had a whole lot to eat and drink but it was worth every penny.

Fish market in Vancouver?
I also live in Kits and make a weekly pilgrimage to Granville Island for fresh seafood. The Lobster Man is the best place for shellfish that I have found in BC. I also go to the dock to pick up salmon if I am ever entertaining a large group (steamed whole salmon is easy but dramatic). Oh, it also gives me an excuse to have some fish and Chips at Go Fish.....
Brits Visiting DC
Thought Id sneak in and ask a question as I am also on my way to DC next week. Whats the name of that famous chili place in DC? I saw i on Rachel Rays tasty travels the other day.....Didnt look fancy but looked like they had great chili dogs.
Charleston/ Kiawah Island Restaurants
For Kiawah, I was at the Sanctuary last week and ate outside by the pool. Lovely sandwich and great view. Im from vancouver so I thought the weather was beautiful but I guess thats allrelative:)
for Charleston, I just love SNOB. Great place for lunch, there shrimp and grits is the best Ive had.
Downtown Dallas - High End Recomendation Please
Can anyone please help me with a high end restaurant to take 5 guys in downtown Dallas? Is there a great restaurant that serves all types of food rather than just a steakhouse?
First date ideas-Vancouver
Georges in yaletown serves great drinks and is in a good location if the date goes well and you want to have some dinner:)
How is the Smoking Dog Bistro in Vancouver?
I do like it but its not in the same league as Bistro Pastis or Crocodile. You may like to try those.
Client Dinner near Dallas Convention Center
Taking 4 clients out and need a medium-high end restaurant within walking distance of the dallas Convention center. Would ordinarily take them to the Palm but went their last time. They are not into anything too "exotic"..Any ideas?

I love this place. Best Indian food in Vancouver and my freezer is stocked with frozen curries from Rangoli's in case I cant be bothered to line up. Vikram is just such a fabulous host.
UMU Review- London
Took some clients to Umu last week. We were the only party of 4 thanks to Valentines day. The room is super cool, think a cross between Locanda Locatelli and Zuma. Greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne cocktail and had the menu explaied to us. Now, I eat out alot but I was really glad for the explanation as I have never had Kaiseki food before.
We opted for the 5 course Kaiseki menu which was just devine. Cant go through (or even try to explain) all the courses but can say that the quality and flavors of the food were fabulous. Delicate and balanced and exactly what I imagine truly amazing Japanese food to be. It was all accompanied by a range of sakis and frankly the best service I have had in a long time.
At 300 pounds for 3 people it is not cheap but well worth it.
Fat Duck - anyone been?
I have been there several times and love the restaurant. Was it the best meal of my life, no. Is it a place I would go back to regularly, no. Its a fun, different take on dinner where food is not taken too seriously.
When I was there there was a couple that left after 5 minutes of reading the menu as they couldnt find anything they liked. Thats OK, its not for everyone. If its a romantic meal you are after go next door to The Waterside Inn or take a room at La Manoir Aux Quatre Saison. If you are a CH that wants something other than a "traditional" dining experience, then The Fat Duck is a good place to go. Or you could really splash out and go to El Bulli.........

Dude, The George and Dragon is a harvester restarant!
You could go a bit further and head into Henley on Thames. There are some excellent gastropubs in the surrounding areas (Crooked Billet, Fox and Hound, Five Horseshoes in Maidensgrove) or indeed even the 3 tuns in Henley town centre which is supposed to be quite good.

Solo diner - Boston
Heading to Boston on business and will be in the copley square area. I want to find a place where I can eat at the bar but not a "bar bar" if you know what I mean. Looking for excellent food, price not an issue. Been to and enjoyed hammersleys, any other suggestions?

Charleston - review
I have just returned from Charleston and wanted to drop off some reviews:
Had lunch at SNOB. Great atmosphere with superb service, no wonder they won best restaurant of the year. I dined alone and sat at the chefs table. Had the shrimp and grits to start (even though they dont usually do it as an appetizer they were kind enough to do it for me). It is hands down the best s&G I have ever had. They apparently make their own sausage and you can even buy the grits next door at Charleston cooks. Their cornbread is also superb and you should twist the cooks arm to get their recipe! Had the daily special of General Tsu chicken which was deliceous also.
Went to Wasabi for dinner, it was packed and we had to wait for ages and when we asked the seater for an update she snarled back some rude response so it was not a good start. The sushi however was really good and our server was amazing. They have some really imaginative, tasty rolls and I live in Vancouver where sushi places are 10 a penny.
Dinner the second night at the Italian Il Cortile Del re. Good but not amazing italian food. Had the zuppe de pesci to start which was under salted and mushroon ravioli as a main. I think I may be spoilt though as I was at Babbo a few weeks ago and was simply blown away.
Last night was BBQ at Jim and Nicks which in my opinion is much better than Sticky Fingers. truthfully I really wanted fried chicken at Jestines but they are closed until January 11th!

Has anyone eaten at Gordon Ramsays new eagerly anticipated restaurant in Manhattan? I am keen to hear the first reviews!
Canoe - dish review
Ok, busted, you are probably absolutely right FlavoursGal. Truth is: I learned about the fact that they dont use gas, found that interesting as I have never heard of a professional kitched cooking with electricity, and tried to make some connection with the steak being sub par. I will try to think things through next time:)
