Bad meal at Rasoi in Jersey City
I have always held Rasoi in the highest regard using it as my gold standard when it comes to Indian food. A few weeks ago I went to Rasoi in Edison and was shocked at how bad the food was. I have always had good food there so I was just assuming that they had a bad night. I have come to expect this with Indian restaurants.
This week I decided to give Rasoi in Jersey City a try. My wife and I ordered chicken vindaloo, tandoori chicken and an order of naan. Both dishes were awful. The tandoori chicken was extremely dry and we both agreed that it was left over from the lunch buffet or another party. The chicken vindaloo also appeared to be a left over dish from the lunch buffet or another party. They just tried to add pepper to spice up whatever they had left over. The taste was wrong, the color was wrong and there was barely any chicken.
I was extremely disappointed with Rasoi. I feel as though they have insulted my intelligence. When someone spends 50 dollars for dinner they should be served freshly prepared food!!
I will definately not go back there.
Great dinner at Spicy Mina's
I have glanced at these chow boards for quite a while now and I have seen mixed reviews regarding Spicy Mina's in Woodside.
Well, the other day on was on the way home from JFK and I decided to drag my wife and my in-laws to try the place. My wife and her parents are from Calcutta so I was really interested in getting their opinon.
We started with the Fuska appetizer and we were all very pleased. After that, we ordered chicken Vindaloo, mixed grill tandoori, nan bread, special dal fry and the fish kofta curry. All of us agreed that the food was execllent...we were all very impressed. I especially loved the fish kofta curry. My wife's parents then started speaking to Mina in Bengali and she came out with some special desserts for the table. I don't know exactly what they were, but they tasted great.
Overall, we had a great experience there. I know people say that the place is hit or miss, but on this night, the food was great. If I am in Queens again, I will definatley go back.
Pie crust....Help?
I was trying to make a quiche and ran into all sorts of problems. The recipe was as follows:
Place pie crust(the recipe said store bought was ok) in oven at 375 and bake for a few minutes untill golden brown. Then, remove pie crust and add the filling.
My problem is this. I went to the grocery store and bought a premade pie crust. When I got home I took the dough out of the aluminum pie shell and placed it into a 9 inch pyrex pie dish for baking. I could not get the edges to fold over the rim because the dough was tearing. I went ahead and placed it in the oven anyway, and within a minute the edges started sinking down to the bottom of the dish.
Where did I go wrong?
Any help would be apprecitated.
Thank you
Rio 22 in Union, NJ - Ugh!
Could not agree with you more. I have been there twice and I will never go back again. I found the service and the food to be mediocre at best.
Good eats in Jersey City
My wife and I love the Indian food at Rasoi. We think it is some of the best around. It is located on Newark Avenue.
