Wisconsin Food in DC, MD, VA?

Pastys? They from WI?

I've just discovered Pastys in Vienna.... and they are awesome!!!
http://www.purepasty.com/

He's a Brit -- so go in and call him Guv'nor! (I'm sure he'll appreciate that)...
But the pasty's are pretty tasty.

Wisconsin Food in DC, MD, VA?

Dunno how Wisconsin this is... but there is a Bratwurst food truck in the area:

Schnitzel-burger is awesome -- but I gotta try the brat sometime.

Moving to Herndon

What is the place East of there on 50??? Are you referring to Asian Delight?

Asian Delight--unusual menu items

Any feedback? I've not gotten a chance to try yet -- wondering if any other have?

GOOD store bought Steaks

Yes, Costco has USDA prime steaks at really good prices.

Fantastic baguettes -- LeoNora Bakery, Arlington

Cool.... anyone got any good bread bakeries out in western FFX county?

I've been relying on Wegmans -- and they do a great job. But I'm wondering where else I should be trying.

Grade B Maple Syrup?

Whole Foods does have it. I just got a jug, because I've heard so much about Grade B.

So I made pancakes this weekend and had a side-to-side taste-off with my Grade A vs Grade B syrups. I could not tell the difference. :-(

Is it me? Or is it so nuanced that only syrup connoisseurs can tell.

Papa Murphy's Take-and-Bake

So there is a new Pizza place in the Franlink Farm shopping center... Papa Murhphy's... Its a take & bake pizza place (right in the same place the last take & bake shop failed a few months ago).
I notice this is a chain.

Anyone tried Papa Murphy's? Is it any good?
Is it worth getting this over some of the other decent options we have in the area (Paisano's, Pomodoro's, Tony's)?

Or am I just getting a glitzed up Digiorno?

New Dim Sum - Hong Kong Pearl Falls Church

Why is there a popsicle in your squid dish?

NOVA food truck - Tortuga Truck

Just found this awesome food truck, which stopped by our office building the last couple of days.
They have really high quality mexican stuff... I got the chicken sandwich -- but can't wait to try the steak one. I also had the corn salad which was very tasty.... everything tastes so fresh.

If you see a big green truck with turtles around -- you got to try their food.

Love that you can use credit cards, and track where they are by their website. Looks like they have moved on today.
Wonder if they take requests...

Yil/Il Mee in Chantilly is gone

Any updates on what is taking the place of the old Yil Mee?

Crabs in Northern Virginia

Try Captain Pell's in Fairfax. Not sure what the going rate is, but give a call.

I always love a side order of their fried oysters -- outstanding!

New Chinese place in Fairfax/Chantilly

This place is the real deal.

I also went for lunch today -- have been later than Mariette, as it wasn't that busy went we went. Those dumplings really looked tempting! But as it was just me & my wife, we would have had too much food. We ordered "Preserved Pork with Pickled Radish" and "Cilantro Beef" (not sure what the real name is, but those were the flavors). (No, we didn't have the guts to try the guts).
Both dishes were excellent. Full of flavor -- you could really taste the wok char.

The decor of the place is very nice -- similar to what you see at MaMa Wok in Reston.
Quality is there. I can't wait to sample more.

The one part I don't quite get yet is their "afternoon tea" with french cakes :-).
Seems a bit incongruous... but they did seem to have a good selection of teas.
Well, at least their Chinese is good -- wait to hear what people have to say about their French.

New Chinese place in Fairfax/Chantilly

Yes, on Rt 50 in between West Ox Rd and Fairfax County Parkway.

The menu certainly looks interesting. They have have authentic Chinese section (Hunan style), and American-Chinese section.
Prices slightly higher than your typical Chinese place.

New Chinese place in Fairfax/Chantilly

Anyone get a chance to try 100 Degree Chinese yet? Its in the Harris Teeter shopping center.

This looks promising... a new Chinese place in western ffx county! So few good ones out here.
We're going to try to get to it sometime this week.

Food delivery service in Fairfax, VA?

I haven't tried them, but I see this truck around the neighborhood often:

New Cantonese restuarant in FairLakes?

Was driving by the Malibu Grill (Brazailian BBQ) in Fairlakes, and noticed there are now Chinese characters on the sign... had to stop in and take a look.

It turns out, they have split the restaurant into 2 co-located restaurants -- one remaining the old Malibu Grill, and the new Cheong Wong chinese place. They say its a Hong Kong style seafood restaurant, and the menu looks promising. I am hoping for good things, as there isn't much authentic chinese food out in western FFX county.

I found it very odd that there were no outside signs in English to indicate there was a Chinese restaurant at that location.

I didn't get a chance to try it yet. Has anyone tried this place?

Buon Appetito in Chantilly?

Anyone been here? In in the Lowes shopping center near to Babies-R-Us.
I've seen some good reviews on Yelp, but haven't heard of it otherwise.

Serenity in Vienna--does anyone read Chinese?

I went to Serenity last night. It is a bit of a hole... and quite empty. I'll be (pleasantly) surprised if they can survive unless things really pick up.
But the food is quite good and I went with 2 chinese families (from Taiwan and China).

The Tawianese dishes are excellent -- the beef noodle soup & "3 cup fish" were great. They do also do Sichuan food -- but its not as good the other local Sichuan places (China Star, Sichuan Village, Peking Village, HongKong Palace), based on their "water cooked beef". It wasn't bad, but it wasn't authentic -- they seemed to be missing the Sichuan peppercorns... the "ma" flavor.

This place has no decor -- it kind of felt like eating in someone's home (especially as there were no other customers). But the staff was very nice & helpful. And the food was great.
Its really great to have another good chinese restaurant option in western NOVA. I hope they find a following and stick.
