I agree about the lemon meringue cupcake offered at PG, that and the blueberry are the only ones I can say taste like a cupcake-weird how the cupcake seems so difficult to make. I mean, it's cake, in smaller form. Haven't we been making cake since God knows how long? What is so complicated? Sorry to hear about cupcake leftovers at the party, that is a bummer and not good for PG.
Work on gluten free wheat
You can get whaet-free Tamari which is excellent in the health food stores, some super markets are carrying it now too.
Work on gluten free wheat
OMG! Thanks for writing about the wheat grass juice, I don't have celiacs but I don't break down wheat, my doc says avoid it like the plague. However, I was informed by more than one person that wheat grass was supposed to be safe, even a naturopath claimed this was so. I tried this and I was so ill, I felt wretched from head to toe, someone had the nerve to tell me it's because I was detoxing too quickly. There's no way within 10 minutes a body can detox enough to cause the dizziness, vomitting, heart palpatations and major cramping I went through. I agree with the enzymes, every now & again I eat a cupcake & man do I pay for it, enzymes would be a God send!

Fav eats suggestions for Old Montreal
sounds good I will try to roam down there soon to check the menu. Thanks!
Fav eats suggestions for Old Montreal
Hey everyone,
My birthday is coming up next month and I want to try something new. I was thinking Old Montreal so if anyone has suggestions I would really appreciate it. I love seafood but there will be meatmouths among us, I love all flavours-spice is good!
favorite desserts
I know this isn't a fancy place for dessert but you really have to try the hazlenut cake at Commensal, it is so good and there's no flour in it-doesn't keep insulin spikes at bay but it's so worth it. Be warned, if you have never been to Commensal, they're desserts are in an open buffet setting so you can slice a piece from several desserts-can be a moment on the lips a lifetime on the hips moment if you're not careful. You also need to try the choco-chai cupcakes & choco-chili brownies at Cocoa Locale.
Teff Flour
Nature Sante 2000 has teff flour too if you are still looking. It's right across from Snowdon metro.
Best Philly Cheese steak in montreal?
Centrale Pizza in Lasalle makes some really good steak subs, buffalo bills is the only place I know of too that makes supposed philly cheesesteaks but they are not the real deal. Manzo os good cuz they are known for the special bread they use for their subs-personally I prefer the chicken one there cuz I don't do red meat but my son says the steak one's good but not as good as Centrale's.
Good luck!
Best boulangerie / patisseries in Montreal/Quebec City?
I agree with cocoa locale & Le Fromontier but you can also check out pain dore, they are pretty well spread throughout the city(Monkland,Cote des Neiges,St Laurent to name a few) and the croissants, abricotines(croissant with thin layer of pastry cream and apricot halves too good) and denishu(croissant style chocolatine with pistachio paste-OMG yum!) are really tasty!
Happy hunting.
English sausages in Montreal?
Have you checked out Atwater market? Indoors near the bakery there is a place that specializes in all types of sausages, I don't know if they have what you're looking for but give it a try-the worst answer would be a no.
In St. Lucia I drank cocoa tea(hot chocolate)
My boyfriend is Haitian & keeps going on about breakfast hot chocolate that is diferent from North American hot chocolate-I am going to surprise him with this one sooner or later, I think I may hold out til we move, we won't have to share! Not too nice but sometimes you want something special just for two.

Did you try the raspberry concoction at Pet Gat? If you do let me know, I did coconut-I don't know it was the blue wackadoo colour that nabbed me but it was too sweet, the carrot-kinda nice but the blueberry...yeah i want another but I seem to be on a blueberry kick this past month. I always do that with food, last time it was green grapes and before that it was all things crepe like or with sweet potato.

Legends? Well that does it, I am going there asap but I think it will have to be first thing when she opens so I don't miss out again.

Man it sounds like Cho'cola is a really bad experience in the making! All I know is you seem to have all suffered and I will gladly steer clear, spanks a bunch for ze tips!

Will do-thanks because there's nothing worse than overly sweet poor quality cupcakes. Both of you have saved my teeth and tummy!

So I have made almost all the cupcake rounds in Montreal, I am just missing the one on Monkland-soon. Les Glaceurs was such a sad affair, the place was nice, a little bit cold decor for my taste but nice nonetheless. The cupcakes are very heavy, dense and not spectacular flavour wise, the icings are just this side of too sweet ans very dry, crumbly. It was really unexpected because the presentation was divine, if you must have one steer clear of the chocolate, go for the lemon but don't expect flavour from the cake- all in the frostings.
Itsi Bitsi, was the most comforting place to walk into. Great aromas, old school charm decor and nice displays, this was where the good feeling ended. I brought someone with to taste, the chocolate was one bite and then kissed the garbage can, the vanilla had both of us scraping off the icing-we both agreed the cake on it was good, there is no butter in their buttercream, yuck but they look good. Petits Gateau, the person I went with tried them months back & said they were awful, I tried them this week and they were nice! The blueberry tofu was my surprising fav, still a bit iffy on the frosting but the cakes were light and soft, fresh and tasty-I hear they have a new pastry chef though. I have saved the best for last, Cocoa Locale is in a category all on it's own, Reema makes amazing choco-chai cupcakes and I crave them every week! My hips cry but my tastebuds smile! Indulge your craving for all things sweet and home-made there. Yummie!

My pleasure-let me know how it turns out. I'm thinkin I might try this out on my boyfriend, he's a hot chocolate fiend! When you had it the first time was it served to you with bread?
In Montreal for the first time, for the weekend. MUST-visit places?
I thought I was the only one who hoardes her goodies with delighted greed!LOL! I am soooo addicted to her choco chai cupcakes & I am really not supposed to eat them but everytime we are in the neighbourhood I always manage to convince whoever I am with to stop in. They all become victims in the end but with a smile. I have not tried the lemon- blueberry cake, is it really that good? I was told the choco zukes cake is actually delish & not to be intimidated by the mixing of the two. All this talk...I think I know where I am headed today! ;P

Specialty Recipe
Cocoa Tea
Cocoa tea is a rich, local breakfast drink. In olden times, tiny flour dumplings were boiled in the Cocoa tea, making the drink a complete meal -- the cocoa tea being the drink and the dumplings replacing the bread.
Ingredients
1/2 cup grated local cocoa stick
2 cups water
1 cup milk (cream, evaporated, powdered, or low-fat)
Sugar to sweeten
Vanilla
Bay leaf
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
1 Tablespoon cornstarch
Put water to boil with cinnamon and bay leaf. Boil for about 15 minutes. Grate cocoa stick and add to boiling water; boil for another 10 minutes. Add cream (or evaporated milk, powdered milk, or low-fat milk to reduce calories). Sweeten to taste. Mix the cornstarch with water and slowly add to the boiling mixture, stirring all the time. Add vanilla. Strain and serve.
Sound too good!

You have to go tococoa locale & try a chocolate chili brownie, a chocolate chai cupcake and any other delight your heart desires. The cake boutique is tiny, run by the nicest woman and is sure to please!
Potato flour?
Potato flour-not to be confused with potato starch can be found at health food stores like Tau,Nature Sante 2000, and Loblaws has a good section for gluten-free. Asian markets carry it too. Call the health food stores first because sometimes you go & they're out of stock. I actually just purchased some at IGA believe it or not, my wheat intolerances are becoming easier to accomodate, whoohoo! If you get really stuck order directly from Bob's Redmill(google em online)
Good luck & happy hunting!
