need large portions/all you can eat on long island for family eating contest

Ciao Baby in Massapequa is known for its large portions of Italian food. I haven't been there, but several friends have said the food is good.

*Edit* Oops, my mistake, you said NY based....he's now in Minnesota. Sorry about that. So, instead, how about Anthony Bourdain:

Good ethnic foods in Nassau County (south shore)?

Thanks Toby for the recommendation, it on my list to try now too!

Ideabaker, have you tried El Mariachi in RVC yet? I don't know if it will live up to your standards from living in TX, but I find it to be good.

OMG! Flushing Comes to Nassau County!

Well, looks like I'm going to have to check this place out too! I agree, it seems unfortunately that Fortune Wheel has gone a bit downhill over the years. The menu you describe sounds great! Thanks for posting!

I'm so glad you liked it! Its my favorite Greek restaurant outside of Astoria. I've always found their pita bread to be just as you described. The appetizers and soup there are also very good, I especially like their Taramousalata, and Avgolemono soup. (I'm really hopi9ng I spelled those right, LOL).

It does indeed look similar, and I will certainly share if I get there.

Happy New Year to you too!

Thanks for the tip, the crepes sound wonderful, I'll have to make a point to get there at lunchtime, so I can try them out. Seafood is one sure way to always get me out!

Taco Bell Enchirito. Face it!

I liked the original Enchirito with the corn tortilla much better than the current incarnation. And especially with the green sauce instead of the red. Ahhh...the old days, I wish Taco Bell still offered both!

Fondue Restaurant on Long Island

I've been told that Simply Fondue is decent, but I haven't been there:

LOL, that would indeed be funny....and then we could all read each others comments on the latest visit.....and think its funny that the daily specials seem to be the same!

What do Chowhounds do for a living (besides eat of course)? [old]

Are there any Fondue Restaurants in LI other than Melting Pot??

So, does anyone know which might be the better choice: Simply Fondue or Melting Pot?

What do Chowhounds do for a living (besides eat of course)? [old]

Ok, finally got to the bottom of the thread, and it seems I'm the only cop on here, I've seen a 911 dispatcher and some training folks, but no actual law enforcers! I originally got my degree in psychology, but ended up working for the feds in law enforcement for several years, which got me traveling and trying some restaurants around the country. Then I left them, and joined a local police dept. where I've been for many years now. I'm a single dad, and am happily showing my teen daughter the joys of being a chowhound, I had to laugh one day when she told me all the boys she knows are food wimps, they don't like to try anything new, and think that the Fire sauce at Taco Bell is too hot. My salary can't compare to some of those here, but I do earn enough to get out at least a few times a month to indulge my CH yearnings!

Bubble tea on Long Island?

There is a little place in Valley Stream, called Little Nest that specializes in bubble tea, its at the corner of Hendrikson Ave and Central Ave.

One more...Cooking w Jazz replacement?

I don't know if there are any good replacements in Queens, you may have to shoot out to Nassau County, there are several decent places there, notably: The Bayou in Bellmore, and Big Daddy's in Massapequa, as well as RS Jones in Merrick.

bnemes....whoa....I never said I didn't want to go there because it was a chain, I said I've heard it isn't really all that good. You seem to have a differing opinion, which is good. Its always good to hear from more than one source. In your opinion, what is good to get there?

Are there any Fondue Restaurants in LI other than Melting Pot??

My daughter wants to go to a fondue place for her birthday, and I've heard that Melting Pot isn't really worth it. So are there any other places on the island, or possibly Queens?

PANCIT

Best Jamaican Beef Patties (areas or restaurants)?

In Queens, try Patmar Bakery on S Conduit Ave, in Rosedale, they're fantastic, and much better than the patties at Golden Crust, who also have a restaurant on the same block.

Time to 'fess up: The Chow Booty Call

Late night booty call...LOL....it has to be White Castle for me, but I tell ya, I still miss Jack in the Box from my younger days, they don't have them around here anymore. Late at night, after the bars would close, my buddies and I would go to Jacks, and get the tacos with extra sauce! I still don't know what the put in those things, but they certainly were addicting!

Buffalo Wild Wings

Just wondering if anyone has been to one of these, and if its any good. There's one in the next county, and if it's worth it to check out, I'd make the trip.

davmar, which restaurant are you referring to? With the eviction notice?

Good ethnic foods in Nassau County (south shore)?

Ok, I finally got there too. And i must agree, it was worth the trip! My daughter and I both got the baked onion soup, which was heavenly, and the escargot, which could have had a little more garlic for me, but was still delicious!
We both ordered our entrees from the specials that the waiter listed for us. I got a Halibut dish with clams in a white wine sauce, and my daughter got Steak with a Rouquefort ( sp) sauce. The Halibut was cooked perfectly and absolutely divine. My daughter simply smiled and finished every scrap of her steak (except the one bite I stole) It was pefectly cooked and melted in your mouth!
I'll definitely be going back, as I want to try their Steak Tatare. I haven't had that dish in a long time, and I want to again!

Now I'm hungry! LOL! Sounds like a place I'll have to visit soon! Thanks!
