Which restaurant in nyc or nearby serves great pork chops?
Two Toms - 3rd Ave, Brooklyn bet President and Union. Hands down.
Phoning in at di Faras
As someone who is an anomaly in the neighborhood - jewish AND eats at difaras, I can tell you the best time to go there is now a wednesday afternoon (since he's closed on m/t) around 1ish - run in, tell dom what you want and pray someone else didnt have the same idea you did... try talking to the daughter - shes generally more reliable than dom is.
I'm looking for a miracle.. Cheap, decent sushi in Midtownish or Financial District.
I'm from Brooklyn (yes, from-from here.) I know what I'm asking for is near impossible, however, if anyone can tell me about this Ciudad de Oro/Fountain of Youth of Sushi, it would be the good people of Chowhound. I have a friend coming in tonight - works in Newark (poor thing) and originally from Michigan. I work down on Houston and Varick, and she can either come into Penn or WTC - she specifically requested sushi. Now if it was up to me, I'd drag her to Smith or somewhere closer to my neck of the woods - but, she eventually will want to go home and that doesn't seem reasonable. So does anyone know of an okay place to take her to that won't break the bank or be completely tasteless. Someone mentioned Nomado 33 on 33rd bet. 3rd and Lex. - has anyone been there? I don't ever go to Murray Hill so... help!

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 5 BEST DISHES AT BROOKLYN RESTAURANTS?
nonononononono you want lobster fra diavolo you have to go to Don Pepes.. hands down the best - Randazzos used to be good, but then all their family drama got in the way and the food changed for the worse.
We're just some cheap college students!
So myself and my 3 best friends (lifelong Brooklyn-ers) are looking for places to hit this summer - we don't have a problem throwing down some money, but remember.. college = poor. I've been all over (Smith St, Bayridge, DUMBO, etc) but I'm getting tired of being the person to pick the restaurant (i.e. if I don't pick we end up at the Floridian or the Kings Plaza Diner... no moreee), seeing as how my friends werent as exposed by their parents as I may have been. So a plea to all of you wonderful Chow-er out there - give me some new ideas that won't need another Sallie Mae loan (Ive got enough of her), including bars - anyone know of a fun bar with a good trivia night? And don't worry we have MetroCard will travel! Thanks!
Cheap and Tasty...
ok i think i need to clarify... thanks dk - 2toms is one of my favorite places for a porkchop, but i dont know if thats his thing - tay, smith st. is my backup... its def not going to be his. and trust me the ragu (well my own homemade thankyouverymuch!) idea has occured to me too, but id love to take the cheapskate out somewhere too - fanciful doesnt = ambiance, its more of a "i know this is a total shot in the dark" - anywhere else?
Cheap and Tasty...
Hey all -
Im new here, just found out about this place and you're all awesome! Anyway, Im from Brooklyn (actually live on E 14th and J.. Walk by DiFaras everyday and laugh that its the only nonkosher place to go in the neighborhood...) and my boyfriend is coming in to visit - and hes cheaaap. Really cheap - so all you crazy Chow-ers out there, help me out. Im used to just using Smith St as my back up but I dont know if some of the prices there are gonna appeal to him and he eats alot. Like a linebacker - and I dont want to send his whole visit listening to whining about prices - so heres the thing. I need that pie in the sky, fanciful place that is at all times tasty, big portions and cheap. Help! It doesnt need to be in Brooklyn - anwhere is fine I know the city and the outerboroughs pretty well by car and subway and well, if not? Thats what google maps is for right?
Thanks!
