Persian food near Yonge and Sheppard
i'm looking for a sit-down place that serves good and inexpensive Persian food near Yonge and Sheppard. I will have a vehicle so a bit of a distance is fine but nearby and say less than $50 per couple...
any recs?
inexpensive, good, and unique to Atlanta places?
thanks all for the more abundant responses this time. afraid the only place i knew about already was The Varsity. walking is an option but probably not more than 20 minutes from the downtown sheraton or i'll lose my dinner companions and lunch will be on a tight schedule. i will look more closely at the suggestions when i have a little more time. in the meantime i'm happy to get whatever other suggestions people might have. not necesarily looking for "gourmet," just tasty and different.
inexpensive, good, and unique to Atlanta places?
wow... great choice for a conference venue...
inexpensive, good, and unique to Atlanta places?
wow. this is the worst response i've ever had to a post on Chowhound for resto recommendations. Is downtown Atlanta food wasteland or is simply no one interested in helping out a Canuck?
inexpensive, good, and unique to Atlanta places?
Hi all
I'm going to be in Atlanta in November for a four-day conference and would love some recommendations for inexpensive, good, and uniquely Atlanta places to eat in the downtown. I will be staying around the Sheraton and Hampton Inn and will not have a car. I would definitely rank taste well above ambience so it can be a whole in the wall (in fact I'd probably prefer that) so long as the food is good. Any suggestions?

ISO downtown dim sum
I like Asian Legend but I want to go to a more traditional Cantonese dim sum place. But I think i wil ldefinitely put them on my list of places to go again soon.
ISO downtown dim sum
I've never been to Rol San but I know where it is and it would be very convenient (we're likely meeting up with people on U of T campus). I'm not a newcomer to Dim Sum so I'm not worried about being "overwhelmed" and my friend will go with my flow. Can someone who knows the place give me a little better sense of what it is like?
Oh and an addition to my original post as a requirement would be "not a tourist trap"
ISO downtown dim sum
I'm looking for a good place in the downtown to introduce a friend to dim sum. Carts would be nice but not necessary. Ambience otherwise less important than quality. Reasonably priced woudl be good but does not necessarily need to be bargain basement. Lee Wah Heen is NOT what I would call reasonably priced :)
Where can I find some boza?
I've seen it in the past on rare occasions available at Istanbul Marche on Dufferin between Lawrence and Wilson.
Bloor and Jane
We tried Los Arrieros and were both very impressed. I went for the "peasant platter" with a mixed grill of meats, rice and beans, and egg and my friend had the chorizo tacos. We started with the empanadas and finished with flan. All-in-all a good meal. Service was a bit slow and someone who came in after we did and ordered the same entree as me got served well before I did -- but mistakes do happen.
Bloor and Jane
I'm looking for recommendations for anything interesting within a mile or so of Bloor and Jane. Good food trumps ambiance. Preferably inexpensive but not necessarily dirt cheap. Suggestions?
Good Chinese food delivery to Bathurst and Eglinton
I gre up just down the street from China House and remember it welll though not fondly. A friend once described it as "frozen Chinese food." It is in the same league as mall food court food only much more expensive. Thew few tiems i've eaten Ken Fong's would lead to a similar description only they are even more out of line on their prices. Afraid that to the best of my knowledge there is no such thing as good delivered Chinese food. C'est Bon and Tasty are both passable when I've eaten in the resto (never ordered in from them).

Best bagels in Toronto?
I too have never gotten the Gryfe's phenomenon. My father didn't either. We're both native Torontonian Polish Jews so I can't blame it on growing up elsewhere with alien influences. I remember growing up hearing about my friends "canoeing" their beloved Gryfe's bagels: scooping out the nearly raw dough in the centre and eating just the crust. I'll stick to BagelWorld and the satisfying clicking noise they cause in my jaw as I eat ALL of my well-baked bagel.
The Twisted Bagel - new restaurant
I stopped in yesterday between errands looking to check out their bagels with a request from my diabetic mother for "soemthing sweet." I lookoed around at the sad plastic wrapped danish and the very lame looking bagels (their twisters are barely bigger than their regular bagels) and bought a poppy seed bagel only because the server was bored and staring at me the whole time i was looking. I brought it home and discovered unsurprisingly that it really wasn't any better than it looked. I too will stick to BagelWorld. Pity TB is closer and has more parking....
What's good nearby Yorkdale mall?
Possibly one of the worst delis I've ever eaten at. Their meat is terribly dry. I had a cousin who worked there many years ago with horror stories of the place.
What's good nearby Yorkdale mall?
The one time I had felafel at this branch it was so bad a spit it out and tossed the sandwich. Nasty, stale, fishy tasting oil. I've read newspaper reviews saying the same. Their northern branch near FInch is much better.
looking for inexpensive, tasty, and eclectic in Baltimore and Bethesda
I'm going to be in the area for a few days and I'm looking for interesting dining spots in the area. Good food trumps decor. Inexpensive would be good. Unique to the area would be a bonus. In Bal'more, close to JHU campus (walkable if possible) would be best. Bethesda area can be anywhere driveable.
TORONTO - WE NEED TURKISH FOOD
Spotted an interesting looking place on St Clair on the south side between Christie and Dufferin. Can't remember the name and he was out of cards and menus when I dropped in. What I saw of the food looked good (I work in Turkey during the summer).
There are surprisingly a lot of Turkish restos that are masquerading as pizza places but have doner and otehr Turkish stuff.
greasy hangover breakfast near queen and bathurst
Bellwoods Restaurant
756 Queen St W
huge, good, cheap breakfast. burgers are great too if you can handle the quantity.
Inexpensive don't miss
Really like New Your Subway. Tried a bunch of theri roti-like concoctions and all have been really good.
Inexpensive don't miss
Just had dinner at Mezzetta last Sunday. Found it very disappointing. You can do much better elsewhere for inexpensive Mideastern food.
Best Ethiopian?
I orderNazareth's vegetarian platter all the time and I think it's quite good. I learned to eat Ethiopian food from the poeple I worked with in Israel who used to bring their wives' home cooking for lunch every day. I think Nazereth is pretty close to their home cooked meals.
Sheppard and Kennedy area recs
Hi All
I'm looking for any recommendations in the general vicinity of Sheppard and Kennedy and maybe a few klicks in any direction from there. Looking for things that are preferably in the lower cost range rather than the high end and food quality trumps decor by a mile.

Paprika Restaurant
Food is good if what you want is available that day. Service is generally abyssmal -- slow, inefficent, and forgetful. Stopped going when Europa opened at Bathurst just south of Lawrence. Food is as good or better. Service is generally excellent and unlike Paprika they have a wooden platter.
Looking for a pub Yonge/Bayview and Eglinton
I'm looking for a quiet pub in either the Bayview and Eglinton or Yonge and Eglinton area with decent food, a good selection of beers (preferably including Double Diamond), and a patio. Any suggestions? I'm also looking for less pub-like places with a patio but would prefer something looking like a local pub over the typical Toronto empty glitter.
Best Falafel In Toronto
I've been eating at KF since they first opened back in 1978. Used to always be amazed at how he seemed to always have fresh red ripe tomatoes all year that didn't taste like wood and the best hot sauce i've ever had in a felafel place. Things have chanegd some over 30 years but he's still pretty good and the closest thing I've seen to the felafel in Israel.
Best Falafel In Toronto
Sababa's a great deal. Not the best felafel I've ever had but definitely reminiscent of an Israeli bus stop felafel. Cheap. Always cooked through. Decent hot sauce.
