Recnet Brick visits?

I've been there a few times and it's very inconsistent. The last time I was there was a week ago and it was very good, the time before that, not so much. Last week we sat in the bars armchairs, and it was a great place to sit-very cozy. We started with a spinach, grapefruit and pistachio salad (I think it had bacon as well) that was fabulous and worth going back for. We also had duck three ways (I don't recommend this dish, it was heavy and boring) and the pork belly which was fantastic. We ordered a side of fries and they were tasty. The time before that, almost everything we ordered was poorly executed and disappointing.

Let me rephrase. We have more a considerable amount more than $3k to spend. Our goal was to spare the person paying, but apparently that can't really be done...so, that being said, any new suggestions?

Not really. At the moment we are open to anything. We haven't decided on the style...We wanted to do it in SF and realizd that it would be too far for everyone to drive and too much of a parking/driving nightmare for the folks from Iowa...anyway, we would have either done a bay cruise if we could have found one with decent food, or had it at Emmy's Spaghetti Shack. That being said, we LOVE their food and know that a lot of people on here don't..we could do that kind of low key atmosphere or upscale, but we are trying to keep the cost under control. Ideally we'd like to keep it to a couple, three grand.

We are looking for a place to have a rehearal dinner this September. The church is located in Portola Valley and the guests will be staying in Burlingame. We need a place that can accomodate about 100 people, preferable with a private room. Any suggestions that wouldn't have people driving too far out that geographical footprint?

winterland is closing

if you want to eat at one of the best restaurants in the city before they close go to fillmore and eat at winterland. last time i ate there i had asparagus soup with a soft poached egg and bacon icecream, it was amazing.
