Noce Restaurant on Queen West: WagJag deal..is it a decent resto?
I've been to Noce several times over the years and I think it's safe to say that the place is a very solid restaurant. Not mind-blowing, but consistently very good. In particular I recall really enjoying a carpaccio there. If you get a seat facing bellwoods it's a nice view. It's a reliable restaurant, the kind of which likely doesn't get enough credit. If you can eat there at a discount it will be an exceptional value.
Food shopping suggestions across the Niagara Falls border? (moved from Ontario board)
I'm pretty sure Smart Food has been available in Canada for 20 plus years.
David Chang on his TO Outposts
Where does he say anything that references an issue with money, construction or partnering? And has the launch been 'oft-postponed?"
David Chang on his TO Outposts
It sounds like a pretty standard restaurant opening for Chang. It's not like he doesn't know what he's doing. Last time I checked he has a pretty good track record so I'm not sure how opening in Toronto is any different than the other locations or concepts. It's a little premature to be sounding the death knell.
The Chickery - Spadina South of Richmond (David Adjey's new casual spot)
I mentioned it above but I don't think this is Adjey's restaurant. He's a consultant now and the website seems to indicate he simply created the menu.
The Chickery - Spadina South of Richmond (David Adjey's new casual spot)
It just says the menu was created by David Adjey. Not sure if it's actually his spot or if he just consulted on the menu. Either way he's a goof. I actually bought his cookbook because it was on sale for 4 dollars at one of of those pop-up book sales in the Dufferin Mall. I was going to throw it away but I kept it since it's so comically terrible. Sorry though, I have no instructive feedback about the restaurant.
Burger's Priest vs. Holy Chuck vs. Stockyards
They've been pretty straightforward about their intentions so I doubt they would add more cheeses if time permitted. As for substituing the cheese would you walk into Bymark with a wrapped slice of American cheese tucked into your pocket and ask them to put it on the burger instead of Brie de Meux?
Roncesvalles area
Just noticed that there is a fish store coming soon to Roncesvalles as well as what appears to be a gren grocers in the old Granowski space. The fish store is especially interesting as it's one thing totally lacking on the street.
PC Products to go Artificial Flavour and Colour Free
The Queens Quay location is decent and I like some of the black label products. It's directly across from my office so it's convenient as well. I wouldn't go out of my way to shop there, but that's true for most places. The hate-on boners for it's demise are as comical as they are predictable.
Need a foodie friendly "lux dive"
Weird - I went with a group of 5 and had no issues at all, other than a wait you would expect in a place that size.
Need a foodie friendly "lux dive"
My gf and I can usually walk out of county general satisfied without ordering multiple menu items. I think it fits the bill.
Might also want to look at Grand Electric
Burger's Priest vs. Holy Chuck vs. Stockyards
"Where do I find such a burger in Toronto? Please don't suggest Johnny's, Golden Star, Apache..."
Habord Room, Nota Bene, Bestellen, Beast, Bymark, County General, Marben, Stockyards, The Westerly, Weezies, etc....
Banh Mi Boys
My gf and I popped in there today before a hot doc for lunch. There were maybe 6-7 people in line ahead of us. We ordered a pulled pork taco, a pulled pork steamed bun and we had just come from the gym so I threw beef cheek steamed bun on the order as well. In addition she got fries and a pop. Came to 16 bucks which was a good value considering the quality. The beef cheek bun was awesome. I'm a huge fan of beef cheeks and it was cooked well and the buns a perfect little pillowy delight. The pulled pork was also fantastic with a noticeable smoke flavour and seasoning that went well with the toppings. Overall, really, really tasty at a good price. We're headed out to another doc tonight and my gf is trying to talk me into going back there for dinner.

I have had a few different cuts butchered by request as well at a couple different places. They are also definitely butchers that sell whole ducks as well and not just the shrink-wrapped breasts.

Agreed Davwud and well said.

Sorry, Friea that wasn't directed at you. Just the order of the thread.

I really don't understand why it would be so hard to believe that St.Lawrence would be in the conversation for top food markets in the world, especially since I doubt they've even been to many if any of the others listed. Fortunately that 'if it's in toronto it can't be good' attitude is dying and there's a new generation of people excited about the city. That's not meant to disregard those who have been enthusiastic and positive about what this city has to offer for longer.

Well said 2 Cents. Also, if you do end up beside some douche then you at least get a great 'one time I ate 100 courses with this total douche' story.
Critique my "must try" list for Toronto!
You can swap out Grand Electric from your American/Canadian list and add it to Mexican. For Polish check out Cafe Polonez on Ronces.
New Q! Stack BBQ
Camp 31 is really overrated by purists. I guarantee if they opened on Queen west and served the exact same food their champions would change their tune.

Awesomely predictable responses here.

I don't know about top, not having visited all of them but it's definitely up there.
Roncesvalles area
Ko is a great place for produce. Great selection with some more unusual or harder to find offerings. They've had ramps, lobster mushrooms, sunchokes, etc...
Where to buy a "submarine" bun
I just bought a couple of soft buns from Loblaws that are literally labeled Submarine Buns. They had both white and whole wheat. I think they're about 10 inches long, or thereabouts.
European Meats Closing Need Alternative.
Yep -- that's it. I always vow to remember the name but for some reason I never do.
European Meats Closing Need Alternative.
I can never remember the name but the place on Dundas near Dovercourt is very similar to European Meats in selection and price. Osso something? It's the one on the north side. Also, No Frills at Landsdowne isn't too far off what European Meats was offering cut and price wise.
Hopgood's Foodliner?
In the first paragraph the poster says that overall they experienced very good service and good food. It seems the issue was only with the scallops and pork belly dish. Apparently they loved the donairs and the dessert.
Pork Belly St lawrence Market
I saw that on the way out and they did have some beautiful bellies in the display case. I regretted grabbing the ones from whitehouse but I was in a rush. Although, I have them in the oven now and they look pretty good.
