Where are the best dill pickles in the Twin Cities?
McClure's. They have them at the St Paul cheese shop at Snelling and Grand. There is a location in MPLS also but I have never been to that one. Best pickles I have ever had.
Best Place for Mussels?
When they have them as a special, the mussels at SeaSalt were the best I've had in the twin cities. Very large portion and the fries were equally good. I can't wait for them to open for the season.
Stouts in Falcon heights
Went there for lunch the other day. Had the margherita pizza. It was just ok. With the wood fired oven I was expecting it to be better. The place has a very suburban feel to it. Ok beer selection. I work close by so I thought I'd give it a try. Don't think I'll be going back.
Restaurant in El Burrito Mercado ??
I think the food is very good. Last time I had tacos de lengua. The time before spicy tinga de pollo quesidillas. Their salsa bar is very good. You can order in line cafeteria style and the people are very nice and answer any of you questions. Or you can sit down on the side to the left and order from a waitress. I would highly recomend this place.
Blue Door Pub
I have to agree with nancyd. The Nook is totally consistent. I always get the Paul Molitor with grilled mushrooms and onions and it is the same every time, which is excellent.
I don't like the Blue Door for the reasons she mentioned. Also the burgers were cooked a bit past the way I wanted them and the tots were hit and miss. One time they were awesome the next time way under-cooked and almost cold when they arrived.
Both places are small and crowded but I'll pick the Nook.
Congrats to Meritage on its first Oysterfest
We had a great time as well. Agree about the wooden nickels. Don't like any event where you have to buy tickets or tokens for everything. We left be fore the shucking contest. Who won?
Mexican chorizo ??
El Burrito Mercado west side St Paul. They have everything Mexican.

Toppers pizza St Paul
Has aynone been to Toppers in St Paul or Mpls ? We live a few blocks from the new location in St Paul. The only thing I've heard was it's better than Dominoes but not as good as Pizza Hut. That doesn't make me want to go. Plus their sign on the awning is pretty cheesy. Pun intended.
Our State Fair 2011: it's the Best State Fair in our State!
Went yesterday. The Trinidad Doubles at Harry Singh's was the best thing I've ever eaten at the state fair ever.
Our State Fair 2011: it's the Best State Fair in our State!
Can't wait to get those fantastic Wisconsin cheese curds at the Minnesota state fair!
Groveland Tap, St. Paul, returned to its former glory perhaps?
It was overdone and the blue cheese was barely there.
Groveland Tap, St. Paul, returned to its former glory perhaps?
The sweet potato tots were good. The bleu cheese burger was not. I agree with Brad, it used to be better.
New York pizza?
Fat Lorenzo's or Cosetta's seem to fit the New York style. If she wants a big slice that you can fold in half to eat. Does that make it "real pizza"?

border taco truck?
That section of univ. ave is now down to two lanes. Hopefully they will find a good place to park during the road destuction.
Rusty Taco
We tried to go there last Saturday, Apr 30 and got stuck in the parking lot for 15 minutes before we went somewhere else. The parking is a huge issue for this place. We live about a mile away so if it ever gets nice we can walk over. If we had to rely on finding a parking spot we proably would never go there. If you can go at an off time during the week it might be better.
Food Wars
The show didn't do much for me and the two episodes were exactly the same. One show had wings and one had beef. I'm guessing it's going be pretty much the same every week with a slightly different food. I do like seeing places I'll probably never get to but I'd rather watch Man vs Food or Triple D.
New TLC show about Pit masters
Watched it last night. A few of the contestants seemed like nice people but some of them did not. It seemed like the cook-off should have been help in a Wal-Mart parking lot.
Alton Brown's ten year anniversary show, Good Eats
Watched the whole show and it was bad, really bad. I like both Alton and Ted and was expecting much more for a 10th anniversary show.
New Jeff Corwin show Ext Cuisine
Who is your average FN vIewer?
There are several FN shows I enjoy, some I watch, and alot that I can't change the channel fast enough for. This Jeff Corwin show is such a blatant rip-off of Bizarre Foods it's pathetic. He's been to the exact same spots with the exact same people eating the exact same things. This show falls into the catagory of I'll watch it if I absolutely can't find anything better on.
Good Pad Thai? (MSP)
I've given this place a number of tries and the Pad Thai has never impressed. It's very mild and no heat no matter how hot you order it. Also I feel kind of cheated by the amount of proteins in their dishes, a few more pieces of chicken or shrimp don't cost anything. I had a pumpkin and shrimp curry around Halloween that was fantastic though.
Heggie's Pizza (MSP)
Picked one up at a convienence store in St Paul because it looked really good. It was what I would call expensive for a frozen pizza at over nine dollars. I know it would be cheaper at a larger store. My problem was it was so salty that after one piece I had to drink alot of water and could not eat another bite. I hope this was a fluke but don't think I would risk it again.
LOL! So I gather Anne Burrell is leaving us all speechless?
Her food looks really good but her manly grunts and use of earl has gotten old quickly. Maybe the mute button is the way to go.
Dinner Imposs, M Symon, Veggie Cowboys
Saw the show and really enjoyed it. Why should Chef Symon know more about vegitarian proteins? That's not what he does. He's all about the pork thank god.
Another thing that has always puzzled me: Taking all these vegitarian ingredients and trying to get the texture and taste of meat out of them. Why not just eat meat?
This should get some comments.
Chef Jeff Project on FN
You did not offend me. Well maybe a little with the "It take a village " comment. But I do enjoy the show and will keep watching.
Chef Jeff Project on FN
Thank you for your reply chef chiclet. I think I may be watching the Food Network for the wrong reasons. I watch for food related entertainment. Shows where I can see people making dishes or going to places to eat dishes that could teach me and inspire me to make some of the things they are doing. There are still shows on FN that do that.
When I saw the promos for the Chef Jeff project I though it looked to preachy but I'd give it a chance. I've enjoyed the 2 episodes so far. I'm not going to change my mind on how I feel about Adam though. Apparently he's had a tough life so far. So have the other people on the show and they don't seem to have problems working with the others.
Chef Jeff Project on FN
Sorry Trish it should be go away Adam. His attitude and use of the n word are very offensive. I know it adds drama and probably keeps people watching but his lack of respect makes me want to change the channel.
Feasting on Waves
I agree with Phaedrus, much prefer Feasting on Asphalt but I did enjoy the 1st episode.Maybe because I'm a motorcyclist and can relate more. I've always liked Mr Brown and he has good taste in motorcycles so I'll keep watching the wave shows.
Mango Thai: Good News for Chai's Thai Fans (MSP)
I've been to Mango 3 times now and enjoyed all 3 dishes I've had. You have to be specific about how hot/spicy you want your food to be. Also I'm dissapointed with the amounts of proteins that are in the dishes. Pad Thai comes with shrimp and chicken and there were 3 shrimp and about 4 small pieces of chicken. For 10.95 I would expect more. Nancy got the pad see lew and it had 3 small pieces of chicken. I'll go back but if that doesn't get better it won't be very often.
bourdain in spain
I really was looking forward to this episode but was dissappointed. Chocolate sculptues and molecular gastronomy are two things I couldn't care less about. The small local tapas bars and seafood places were much more interesting. Mr. Bourdain still makes very good television.
