South Beach lunch spot with ocean views?
You must be going down for Spring Break! I'm going down with my daughter the same days! I've been to Sardinia and the food is fine, but if your daughter is anything like mine, she wont find it a hip and happening place. Scarpetta is great, especially if you have a later dinner reservation. Makoto is too, and the window shopping in that mall is amazing. Michaels has good food, but its not in a very interesting area. I took my daughter there for lunch one day when it was raining, but wouldn't do a dinner there with her. One place my daughter loved (for the scene of course!) was Sushi Samba on Lincoln Road. In fact, that whole street is lively for a teenage girl. Pubbelly sounds like a great choice, haven't been there but will probably go there as well, maybe we'll run into each other! Smith and Wollensky, although not great mind blowing food, does have a lovely ocean view...would be a great spot for a sunset view with a snack.
Washington DC, Romantic Dinner for under 100!?! Please Help!
Notte Bianchi has a pre theater dinner for around $32.00. They will also valet your car for the evening while you're at the theater. They area less than 5 minute walk from the KC. The atmosphere is very warm and cozy. I was there two weeks ago and it was very nice.
Carpaccio's
Yes, you are absolutely right. I also like Makoto very much, and whenever I'm in the mood for Japanese, it's my first choice. But Carpaccio is pleasant, and as you say, consistently good, and we always leave happy as well. I'm glad to have it in my neighborhood.
Carpaccio's
I'm surprised at your response to my comment about Carpaccio. If you read it, you would see that I did not say that it its a the same level as Makoto, Scarpetta, etc. I've eaten at every fine restaurant in Miami and South Beach. As I stated, it's good food at a reasonable price. If you have eaten at Carpaccio as many times as I have, you would know that the long lines are from repeat customers, not first time tourists. I believe the long lines of repeat customers speaks for itself and is a better indication of its popularity with locals than with two uninformed opinions. If you want good food, good prices and a fun place to people watch, then Carpaccio is the place to go.
Carpaccio's
I love Carpaccio.
Yes, Makoto has great sushi, etc etc,
But Carpaccio has wonderful service, the waitstaff are terrific, you can get half orders of pasta, you can modify anything on the menu, and.....its really good! I've tried plenty of the pasta dishes, and yes, its not Il Gabbianos, or Scarpetta, or Sardinia, or Il Mulino, but it does very nicely for a casual night out. The mall is quite pretty with all the greenery, and the people watching is not to be surpassed! No, I would not go there on a special nite out on the town, but if you want just a nice satisfying dinner, some people watching and happen to be in the area, its a really satisfying experience. Thats why its "inexplicably crowded":good food at reasonable prices, an atrractive setting, fabulous service and fun people watching.
Planning 2 dinners for Miami - please help weigh in on the choices
I'm not sure how many people are in your dinner party, but I have always gone to Spiga when in South Beach which is at least once a month. It is a very cute restaurant in a great location. It has a front porch dining area that is perfect for people watching. The food is excellent, and well priced, good freshs fish, and pastas. Service is professiona and friendly. I also think their riccotta pie is amazing and their tiramisu is the best in Miami.

The best Thai food in DC?
Sabai Sabai has only gotten better and better. Last night we had papaya salad, fresh, spicy, crunchy deliciousness, nua nam tok salad which is a spicy grilled beef salad,a chili basil eggplant dish, crispy duck with basil and Panang curry with pork, absolutely outstanding meal. This restaurant was packed.. We had a 25 minute wait on a Monday night, but it was worth it.
Need great restaurants in Sunny Isles!!
Take a quick cab ride down to bal harbour and go to Carpaccio. It has the best atmosphere, fantastic people watching, the food is delicious, the service is outstanding and dining crowd is very international. There is outside dining, its in the Shops at Bal Harbour where all the designer stores are like Hermes, Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, etc. Theres a french restaurant there too, but I think Carpaccio is far better. It stays open late, and its a very fun place place to walk around window shopping, very pretty space there, with Koi ponds and palm trees everywhere. I think the girls will love it! It's like 5 minutes away in a cab.

Must eats in Miami Beach?
I would go to Joes Crab for lunch and Spiga for dinner, they are both right in South Beach and both are close in. Don't have any Cuban recs, but I'm sure you can find some here on the board.

Anyone know what happened to the Hollywood Diner on Rockville Pike?
Their menu always scared me, there were like 400 items, everything from two eggs over easy with hash browns and toast to.. lobster thermador, to surf and turf, to liver and onions!
Restaurant Eve (Epic Fail)
I'm so surprised to read this, as I've always had a very satisfying experience at Restaurant Eve. Sorry to hear this happened.

SOBE Honeymoon and Birthday - 4 nights
I think Spiga on Collins in South Beach is lovely. The restaurant both inside and outside is charming (I love the floor lamps outside, such romantic lighting!), the service is friendly and prompt and the food is delicious. Try the Crab Ravioli. Also the simply grilled Bronzini over spinach with artichokes is perfect. Although they recommend the ricotta cheesecake for dessert, I think their tiramisu is the best I've had in all of South Beach's Italian restaurants, and trust me, I've tried them all! I also think the location is perfect for walking around Ocean Drive in the evening after a great dinner. I've been to Casa Tua, which is very nice as well, but Spiga, I think edges it out for location, atmosphere, menu and service. Joe's is best for lunch, get the stone crabs and the grilled tomatoes with the cheese and spinach on top, perfect lunch! Scarpetta is also worth a visit, the Fontainbleau is a fun place to have drinks before or after. Osteria del Teatro is just ok, they won't make half orders of pastas for a first course, which is a shame because the full order is just too much, even to share as a first. Sardinia is also good, but mostly for the pastas, thats where they shine. Location is not as good as Spiga.

4 Days in DC
Hi Frod, I read you avidly for your informative and on hte mark Miami opinions, as I'm down there almost every month, so now its my turn! I don't really like your brunch selection as I don't think you need a Latin influence, and I have read about too many off experiences there, that I think you could do better. Check these places out for brunch: Blue Duck Tavern, Tabard Inn (both of these are really attractive in their own way), Leopolds in Georgetown, Perrys, Peacock Cafe, Marvins on U Street, Matchbox (for the kids) and Bar Pilar.
I also don't think Good Stuff Eatery is worth the visit. It has no charm, the seating is not very nice at all, the burgers are only so so in my opinion, and I just think you can do much better for lunch than there. Almost anyplace is better. Palena is amazing, my favorite restaurant in DC or almost anywhere. Have the Gnocchi!

Recs for dinner Ct Ave & Military Road??
I work in that area and I think Arucola, a few blocks up the street is good if you're looking for someplace within walking distance. Their pastas and breads are made in house as are their desserts. I was there the other night and had a very nice fettucini with a light sauce and a veal chop. If you want to go further afield, I would suggest going in the opposite direction a few miles down on Connecticut to either Sorriso, Palena or Dino's, all practically next to each other. My favorite is Palena, followed by Sorriso, then Dino. Check out their websites.

Schnitzel Haus -- any views?
Thanks for the review. It sounds like a place to try out next time I'm in the area. I love schnitzel and potato pancakes, and excellent service to boot? What's not to love!
Schnitzel Haus -- any views?
Thank you, I've been to Michaels and Sardinia, (love their pastas and meatballs), will check out the others next time I'm in town.
Schnitzel Haus -- any views?
I like driving around Miami and finding new places for dinner so thats not the issue, and I see on the map where it is, so its not that much out of the question. I'm just finding it difficult to find just the right balance between those three elements, the food, atmosphere and service. I actually really like Carpaccio because the food, although not gourmet is actually quite nice, the atmosphere is fun with all the people watching, the service is just downright friendly as can be, so it all balances out. I've been to the Forge, hate the atmosphere, the service can be lacking in attention, but the food is good for the most part. I eaten at Scarpetta which is I like, Devitos, which is over priced, and a little weird in the atmosphere area. So, I'm looking for a nice balance, like Carpaccio. Do you know of other places?
Schnitzel Haus -- any views?
I'm in South Beach a few days each month and am always searching for that one perfect spot where the food is delicious, the atmosphere is inviting and the service is friendly. I''ve only found one or two places that fit the bill. In your opinion, is this one of those places?
Frustrated in Rockville -- why can't I get a decent deli sandwich?
The closest you will get to a high quality Italian sandwich is not in Rockville, but it's close by. Go to Cornucopia in Bethesda. It's worth the drive.
Help! Need place for my mom's birthday party in Rockville, MD
Mykonos on Congressional Lane in Rockville can handle up to fifty people in their private dining room. It's a pretty restaurant and the food is a little different, but has that mediterranean healthy flair.
Black Market Bistro vs. Black's Bar and Kitchen
I used to go to Black Market Bistro often, but the menu hasn't changed in ages. Now, I just go every few months. I like Addie's menu more, like Black Market's location better, and like the seafood selections at Blacks Bar and Kitchen the most.
Eatonville: U Street
I feel validated finally! The one time I dined there, I felt like l was in a theme park, I kept looking for the "Colored's Only" Entrance.
Palena, Corduroy or ???
Theses are my two very favorite restaurants in the city. Both are fabulous and you can not go wrong with either one. But. If I wanted to impress a foodie, I think I would go with Palena, because there is no other place like it. The food is just so memorable, its unbelievable. I really love Corduroy, and when I need a change, I go there, it also is terrific, more in an American comfort food of a very, very high caliber, and the restaurant itself is stunning.
Himalayan Heritage tonight for the first time
Reiflame, we started out with the delicious garlic nan, the gobi (cauliflower), and the aloo dam (diced potatoes) and actually like the potatoes better than the cauliflower because of the sauce. For main courses, we had the chicken tikka masala, the lamb rogan josh, and the vegetarian chick pea dish. All was good, and although in retrospect, it was not the best i've ever had (my favorites are Passage to india, Rasika, and Bombay Bistro in Rockville), I just loved the atmosphere and service and overall friendliness of the place, the way it was decorated was so cute, that it made up for any lack of perfection in the dishes. I would go back again if I was in the area.
Himalayan Heritage tonight for the first time
Is that the same sauce they have on the Cauliflower appetizer? I haven't tried their dumplings yet, but will get them next time I stop in. The restaurant has such a nice vibe, wish the parking situation was better in that area!
Himalayan Heritage tonight for the first time
I had dinner tonight at Himalayan Heritage, and it lived up to all the great reviews and comments I've heard. The restaurant is quite charming inside, the service is lovely, and the food is comfy and delicious. I definitely recommend this place.
