Inwood Ft. George - what's GREAT? Need good take out/delivery options, please!

I've just moved here and need some help! What makes for the best take out? I'm talking about chinese, pizza, etc... I also would love to know about your other favorites for delivery - good, quick service, etc... I ordered from one place so far with great veggie dishes (chinese) but terrible meat dishes. THANKS!

Cooking Classes in Cartagena, Colombia?

Does anyone know if you can take cooking classes while in Cartagena? We are going there in April and would like to take a class. If not Cartagena, anywhere nearby?

thanks!

Port Stephens area places to eat?

Oh! and any particularly foodie experiences one should pursue around there? I've read there's a winery worth visiting... anything else we should know?

Port Stephens area places to eat?

We'll be headed for a 3-day stay in the area, and wondering if anyone who has visited might have any suggestions for places to eat... it's safe to say we're open to anything - just don't want to have a bad meal! thanks!

Great place in Cartagena, Colombia?

We are in Cartagena for a week and would love some suggestions for good places to eat. We also need one upscale place because we want to treat our hosts. Any ideas?

Brunch in Chelsea...any ideas?

So we've got four adults and three kids, for a family brunch between 10-12 on Sunday....any ideas for a reasonably good place that can take a large party? kid-friendly food?

chocolate farmhouse muffins (oren's) ???

The other day I had the BEST muffin of my life --- maybe the best treat too - called a chocolate farmhouse muffin, at Oren's coffee on the UWS. Has anyone had these and/or know where Oren's gets them? Anyone have a recipe? Amazing......

Casa Mono - Thoughts? Suggestions? Help!

Good advice - thanks! We did have the Bacalao and it was fluffy but a bit dull. The real gem of our meal was the Razor Clams (north atlantic jackknife clams) OH MY GOD...they were unbelievably wonderful. More chewy like calamari, and made with a fabulous lemony garlic. My boyfriend thought it was too lemony, but I dug it. I think we're going to make a trip back there to get that duck egg and try some more razor clams. We had their salad, which was a boring and not so good frisee...blah.... not at all worth 10.00! try .50...

Casa Mono - Thoughts? Suggestions? Help!

We are having our first meal at Casa Mono tomorrow - what's wonderful to have their? Anyone have some recommendations for us? thanks!

Soul Food in Harlem?

Amy Ruth's was just okay. Atmosphere is better at Melba's and the food is amazing.... her candied yams are unbelievable. try the grit cakes, mac and cheese, short ribs...chicken and waffles is amazing.

W 114th St: good eats nearby?

It's sezz midi I think - good brick oven pizza.

W 114th St: good eats nearby?

I agree that this isn't exactly the best place for Mexican, but if you must - Rosa Mexicano down at Lincoln Center is great. You don't have to get entrees - a good place to go to grab an excellent frozen pomegranate margarita and just have something off the appetizers - like chicken flautas...don't go for a dinner - it's pricey and you'll feel unhappy.

W 114th St: good eats nearby?

Melba's is AWESOME....

W 114th St: good eats nearby?

I can't believe anyone would discourage you from going to Melba's. I live on the corner of 113th and Melba's is our absolute favorite. The short ribs are to die for, as is the grit cake and pretty much anything else you can get on the menu. I just took my friends from London there last week and they absolutely adored it. Plus the wait staff is lovely - but they're busy, so if you feel ignored just get their attention and they'll take care of you. My boyfriend and I are total foodies, and this is our favorite place in the neighborhood including all the good places you can go up on Broadway. So yes - hit Melba's at 114th and Frederick Douglas! Live a little! It's totally American and you won't get anything like it in London. Plus it's WAY affordable!
Also - the Mill is great for Korean food, really fun. Crepes on Columbus at 109th is so amazing! Try the goat cheese and ratatouille crepes ---- gorgeous! Also, "A" which has moved to 104 and Columbus is also lovely - sort of caribbean....
We also LOVE Awash Ethiopian food on 106 and columbus - although it's slow - but hey, it's worth it.
Make sure you take a trip down to H&H bagels on 80th street for a decent bagel - I always go next door to the Zabar's cafe and grab a 50 cent cream cheese, then go to H&H and get my bagel there. Sesame..... mmmmmm.... good luck! have fun!

Saigon Grill overrated?

This all sounds really strange to me - I don't think SG is authentic, but it is very tasty and affordable and some dishes they do are just plain great. Also, they've advertised for the last year at least that they don't deliver at all. They stopped delivery service because of the issues with the workers and have never mentioned a minimum order of 100 dollars to us.

Looking for a specific cheese

I think Whole Foods at columbus circle had it at one point.

Limoncello- WTF???

I think you need to just go to Italy. The only place I've ever had it was in Umbria...and I fell in love with it there and that was back when we could bring liquid on planes. I've never bought it here. Go on a trip and enjoy it the proper way....

Costco????? common...

Dinner with history on the side: historic restaurants of Manhattan?

I think no one mentioned Katz's because the asker was looking for high end-ish restaurants...but Katz's can't be beat as far as a deli with great food and history. Also in the medium category is Amy Ruth's on 116th ---and there are a lot of great Harlem jazz-era hangs with fantastic soul food and great memorabilia.

Dublin must-eats?

What are some absolute musts if I'm in Dublin for a few days? Any restaurants or food carts/stands...etc that are just too good to miss? thanks!

cheese shops in Dublin

good guess --- thanks for the information!

Four days in NYC, some must eats?

Out in Queens, you should try La Fusta on Baxter Avenue in Jackson Heights....Argentine Steak at it's best -- get the skirt steak -- it's only about 14 dollars. UWS and upscale - Ouest is nice, and Nice Matin.

Top 5 dining experiences

1. Veritas (before Scott Bryan left)
2. Lupa
3. Les Halles (simple, traditional, always great)
4. Any Korean bbq on 32nd street (I'm not kidding)
5. Sapporo on 49th (AWESOME and you can get out of there for under 10 bucks)

Sapore - West Village - gone for good?

I saw that the awesome Sapore - home of the 6 dollar amazing lunch special - is gone...... does anyone know if it (crossing my fingers) moved? or is it gone for good? SAD!!!

frozen custard with 4% milk fat - ted drewes style

Soooo...my boyfriend introduced me to the famous ted drewes custard in St. Louis....the kind you can turn upside down and it won't go anywhere - and I just went nuts for it.... sour cherry being my fave... anyone know where to get something like it in NYC?

What's with the SALTY pasta at Batali's restaurants?

dude...I LOVE salt...but I'm not a friggin' deer. I like each bite freshly salted, and am fortunate enough to be blessed with the blissfully low blood pressure to have as much salt as I want. I'd like to see the managers or Batali himself take a bite of the pastas I have eaten at those restaurants. I would be willing to bet they wouldn't get past the first taste.

cheese shops in Dublin

Where's the place to go for incredible sheep's milk cheese in Dublin...in fact, any cheeses that aren't to be missed? any thoughts? going to Dublin for just a few days

thanks!

Baked Bread - Where is NYC's best baguette?

Any suggestions for a bakery (hopefully UWS) with a great baguette? I haven't tried them at Silver Moon... has anyone?
I'm getting tired of Zabar's and Fairway's efforts in the genre...

Cooking class for a gift?

Yes... ICE is really great - and the gift certificates there can be used for any class, so there is no pressure to choose one for your friend. Also- they say that the certificates expire, but if you call them, they'll renew it - really nice people and the class we took there has inspired us both for years after...

Ex-Veritas: Where is Scott Bryan cooking now?

Dammit! that guy is a genius....

Ex-Veritas: Where is Scott Bryan cooking now?

Does anyone know where Scott Bryan is cooking these days? We didn't know he had left Veritas and so were really disappointed to go there and find the menu had changed. We ended up not eating there because friends of ours had gone and said the prices went up, the menu changed and was not as good... Anyway - Veritas was such a treasure with Bryan there - anyone know where he is now? Or does anyone want to weigh in on Veritas? Are any of the new dishes as good as the older ones? What would you recommend?
