Korean food for Non-Koreans

Every kind of japchae I've had has been delicious! (outside of a restaurant setting) Especially my mom's :D But yeah, it's not made that often because its a bit time consuming to make, which is sad for my tummy =(

Is Woo Lae Oak really that trendy? I think I've been to the one in Seoul a few times and it's... not trendy, haha.

I know there are a couple of topics covering not being able to chew well after an oral surgery, but I had jaw surgery and I can't open my mouth at all. (I'll use those threads as inspiration for later on.) I'm stuck with LIQUIDS and thin liquids at that (has to be able to go through a straw and no tiny pieces of anything).

Background: It's been 3 months (2 jaw surgeries in that time) and I've been just drinking soy milk (2 flavors) and drinkable yogurts this whole time (I'm surprised I'm not sick of it yet, lol... probably because I have no other options).

I'm in South Korea at the moment, returning to the US this week. My mom has been making me chicken stock occasionally but we're staying with my relatives and long story short, it's a pain to do.

The thing is, a week after returning to the US, I'm moving to my first apartment (college student) and I'll have to fend for myself (during the week, weekends I'm going home!). I was hoping to be able to open my mouth (it's elasticized shut at the moment) before returning to the US but my bite isn't stabilizing so... *sigh*

Does anyone have any flavorful stock/broth/soup recipes they can recommend? I'm a newbie cook but I'm willing to tackle any recipe. I'll probably feed my apartment mate the solid parts so I won't be throwing it out, lol.

ditto! Mom felt strongly that the ones made in Japan were superior... we have the 5 cup Neuro Fuzzy at home (downsize from the 10 cup since everyone is moving out) and I bought the same model for my 1st college apartment :D

Just a note, Korean BBQ doesn't need to be grilled at the table to be Korean BBQ. They probably do it that way to control the smell (as yummy as it is), although the experience is part of it.

We're Korean and eat a lot of rice, but since I'm moved out (college) and my big brother got married, there's less people at home to eat rice (we had a 10 cup before, I think.)

Anyway, my mom loves it and I love it... (the rice is always perfectly done and lasts for days on warm) so I'm buying one (the same one) for my first apartment soon. :D Can't live without rice!

Best rice cooker/vegetable steamer?

Make sure you're getting the ones made in Japan and not China! I say this because my mom was so adamant about it when buying a new rice cooker two years ago... and it's made an impression on me, :D. I'm buying a rice cooker in a week or so and I'm getting a Zojirushi.

I have around 165... recently started collecting (less than 2 years ago). I mainly buy newer ones and a bunch at a time so its my most expensive hobby, lol. It's my guilty pleasure, I'm a college student :P I actually made a website with an index of them but the site isn't live yet, lol.

Bubble tea

agreed! There was a ton of bubble tea places by my high school (in Chinatown in Houston) and I miss having the convenience. It's just so fun to eat :D I'm Asian but everyone in my school loved it :D

My big brother and sister-in-law get it at least once a week!
