Kosher BBQ heats up - anyone have an explanation?

I called Temple Beth El, Fairfield, CT for more details about the April 6 BBQ event. The person answering the phone only knew about the September event. Has April been cancelled?

Has anyone been to a simcha at the Dyker Beach Golf Course?.

How was the caterer, food and venue? Was the food more modern (sushi) or od fashioned? Would you recommend this venue for 300 people?

Need suggestions for unveiling brunch

Sunday at Moosewood cookbook has a great recipe (p248-249) for a salmon and lox casserole. It has great taste, can be prepared the night before and automatically time baked.

Looking for a non-kugel, make-ahead potato side dish to serve with brisket

you can make your mashed potatoes with sauteed onions and place them in pre-greased muffin tins. bake at 350 for 15 minues. before serving, heat for another 15 mintes before removing from pan
p.s., my brother flavors his potatoes with chiken fat or shredded horseradish. YUM

Passover desserts question

I make a fantastic refreshing lemon mousse that I do freeze. There are many ways to seve this.
I inflate mini ballons and dip them in melted chocolate. Place on baking sheet lined with waxed paper and freeze, Top with homemade strawberry sauce.
Also crush macaroons and make a pie crust in a springform pan. Fill with lemon mousse and freeze. Serve with a fruit topping. ENJOY

Deep Frying Ideas

Try grilled chopped liver sandwiches. Spread liver on plain (kosher) white bread. Cut sandwiches in quarters. Dip in beaten egg yolk thinned with water or non-dairy milk and deep fry.( Or Not) What a treat!

Gobble Gobble-Need Source for fully cooked Kosher turkey for a Brooklyn Thanksgiving.

Maybe one of the kids could roast the turkey, wrap well to insulate, and bring to Bubby and Zaddy's. I've done this when my parents could not. There are memories to be made for everyone, including the grandkids. Try it.

Need VERY small turkey raw or fully cooked for family of four in Brooklyn

My husband and I enjoy turkey quite a bit. Since we are the only two at home, I will buy the smallest one available (usually about 12 pounds) prepare and roast the whole thing and immediately cut it in half. While warm, wrap in double layers of foil and place in a plastic freezer bag. it will keep at least two months. Defrost and enjoy this special meal again.

BTW: we love to roast the turkey on our charcoal grill. Delicious!!!!

Overnight babka?

Adina,
Please remember that even though the dough will be refrigerated for two nights, it will still be rising ,albeit at a slighty slower rate than if you kept it at room temperature. I am not sure whether a double rise in the fridge would harm the dough. I would bake it and then freeze it until needed.

Passover programs 2011

We (all 18 of us) are considering the Passover program at The Topnotch Resort and Spa in Stoxxe, VT.
The info on the internet states that Greenwald Caterers will be providing the food.

Have any of you heard of the hotel or caterer? How about rates for the week?

Thanks for your feedback.

does Costco do the butchering and packaging? If not, how long before appearing at Costco were the products packaged? Nicely vacuum packed scares me

Meat prices

Went to Pik-n-Pay two weeks ago. Great prices, but..........the stored smelled less than clean. Advertised frozen chicken cutlets were being sold defrosted! I wasn't happy with the veal chops in the case and asked for thicker ones at the sale price. Only those in case from day before on special. since "we have to get rid of them" And the chickens? Filthiest that I have ever seen. We still went to Lawrence/Cedarhurst to fill in everything not available in Brooklyn. Even with great prices I doubt that we will be going back.

DeisCane...Thanks for your advice. Our next question is about hotel location..we want to be centrally located so that we can walk to major attractions. What area (hotel) would you recommend as centrally located? After the Jewish ghetto what would be your "must see' suggestions?
Thank you so much!l
