Which Brooklyn restaurant's have the longest wait? Which have the hardest to score reservation?

Buttermilk Channel is always a long wait, even worse than Prime Meats. At least in my experience.

Prime Meats Report

I haven't been happy with Prime Meats either as of late, but for me it's mostly issues of service. It seems the past few times we've gone there have been botched drink orders (getting the wrong drink, or no drink at all) and sloppy, inattentive service. We were there over the weekend and the server spilled water on the table while pouring it into a glass, but didn't bother to either apologize or wipe it up. Also served a messy cappuccino that had spilled about a third of its contents into the saucer. I realize they are hella busy & it's a hard job to do, but usually a quick apology goes a long way.

any big wine store in brooklyn?

There is also the Brooklyn Wine Exchange, on Court St. near Atlantic (just a couple doors down from Trader Joe's):

Not sure how they fare on selection of domestic wines. They are a decent-sized store, though.

Buschenschank in Carroll Gardens

Has anyone been here yet? Just curious, as it's owned by the same fellow who runs South Brooklyn Pizza (good pizza, bad atmosphere). From brownstoner: http://www.brownstoner.com/blog/2011/11/buschenschank-opening-in-carroll-gardens-next-week/?accordion=food-and-drink

Brooklyn for Thanksgiving Dinner

Prime Meats on Court St. (just down from Frankies) is also doing Thanksgiving dinner, and I believe Chestnut on Smith St. is as well.

Seersucker (also on Smith) is doing a "Thanksgiving Dinner to Go" that you can preorder & pick up the day before...I think it's $30/per person.

Where to Get Christmas Dinner Catered in Brooklyn

Have you come across Naturally Delicious (http://www.naturallydelicious.com/) in your google searches? They're located in Carroll Gardens. They cater for Thanksgiving dinner, so perhaps they will have a Christmas dinner option as well.

I've never ordered any food from them but have heard good things about them, and they have been in the neighborhood for a while now.

And as a last resort, you could try FreshDirect!

New Brooklyn restaurant roundup

There is also Dubuque, which is on Court just below 9th St., and Palo Cortado, also on Court and a few doors up from Buttermilk Channel. Dubuque specializes in burgers, and Palo Cortado is a tapas place.

Dubuque on Court St. in CG

Has anyone else been yet? It's located at 548 Court, just below 9th. They specialize in burgers. Aside from the standard beef burger, they have burgers made from lamb, pork, cod/scallop, and falafel. (They also have a couple sandwich options as well, including a chicken breast sandwich.)

My partner & I went a few nights ago. It's a tiny space, but nice. They definitely need to work on the ventilation as my clothes reeked of burger after we left (we fled when they put a cod/scallop burger on the grill--the smell was a little overwhelming). Service was a little slow, but very friendly. They don't have a liquor license (not sure if they're applying for one), but I believe they do serve sodas.

I had ordered a pork burger, but unfortunately they were out, so I just got a regular beef burger with cheddar. My partner had a lamb burger, well done, with tzatziki sauce. She loved hers. I liked mine--it was good, but not earth shattering. We both agreed that the burger buns were not great--too soft & did not stand up to the juiciness or heft of the burgers, and thus they fell apart rather quickly. Not sure if I'm into paying $9-$12 for a burger alone--at least not frequently--but YMMV. Fries are listed among the starters--I did order them, and they were crispy and well seasoned.

Dessert was a warm plum crisp, which was kick ass on a cool autumn night. I can't describe it any better than that.

Cafe luluc -- fresh Smith Street horrors

I have to agree w/you, BklnChicken. I've lived in CG since '95, and I think among the dreck we have some really good, standout restaurants. (I mean seriously, would one consider CG/CH worse than, say, the UES in Manhattan? Yikes.)

I had dinner at Luluc a couple years ago and it was pretty horrible, plus the service was pretty apathetic. Brunch used to be good there, but I haven't been in a while so I really can't say.

That New Place on Court St. Near Mezcal's Whose Name I Forget

Thanks, jmh! I've been kicking myself for not remembering the name, even though I've walked by it so many times.

Couple of new names - BINO and VERDE on Smith Street?

My partner and I had brunch at Bino recently, on a Saturday. It wasn't crowded at all. I had poached eggs with asparagus & truffle oil, and a beet salad. Everything was fresh and tasty, so I'm looking forward to trying it for dinner.

That New Place on Court St. Near Mezcal's Whose Name I Forget

Walking by the place this weekend, I did see a menu on the door. Looks like it will be a tapas place.

Sadly, I still don't remember the name. I know, I know, sorry.

Basil Pizza & Wine Bar in Crown Heights

Has anyone been here yet? Here's their website:

I'm hoping to check it out next weekend. Looks promising.

That New Place on Court St. Near Mezcal's Whose Name I Forget

There seems to be a new bar/restaurant on Court St. in Carroll Gardens, couple doors up from Buttermilk and, I think, right next to Mezcal's. It has signage, but the name of the place eludes me now. (I believe it was in Spanish, maybe Portguese?) Aside from that, there is nothing indicating what it is, or what it serves. Last week I had walked by one evening and saw a couple people sitting in there, but 1) was too tired to go in satisfy my curiosity and 2) they were sitting in near darkness, which seemed kind of depressing.

Does anyone have any info on the joint, or can point me to a thread? Thanks!

Buttermilk Channel?

I wasn't really impressed w/the chicken & waffles either. Both seemed kind of dry and bland to me. Nothing special

The duck meatloaf is pretty amazing, though.

dinner, east village/LES

This one sounds pretty good too! Thank you.

dinner, east village/LES

Hi Phil! As it it turned out, we did not end up going to the movies, hence we were not in the neighborhood. (We were going to see "I Am Love.")

But...at least the next time we're down there we will be armed with lots of options on where to eat! Thank you. Lucien sounds great. And I'm ITA w/you on Prune--I've heard mixed things about it anyway, and it is always crowded.

dinner, east village/LES

A straw? Yes, that seems all kinds of wrong! Thanks for this rec, though. I like the look of the place & will definitely check it out.

dinner, east village/LES

My partner & I are seeing a film at the Landmark Cinema (Houston near 1st Ave.) this weekend and since I'm rarely in that area, I'm not sure what good dinner options are in the area. Looking for something low-key/romantic, casual, not insanely crowded. (Doesn't have to be super cheap, but that's always nice too!) We're flexible on cuisine. Thanks for any suggestions!

World Cup restaurants/bars

Not sure, but PJ Hanley's on Court might be an option. I watched the US-Brit match there over the weekend, but I don't know if they are really committed to showing non-US games. The food isn't great (except for the pizza next door), but it's a nice neighborhood place to watch sports.

Home: Vietnamese in Park Slope

About a week ago I received in the mail a takeout/delivery menu from a restaurant called "Home" in Park Slope. Has anyone tried them, either for eat-in or delivery?

Brunch for about 7-10 Women

August is a really, really tiny space. Not conducive to groups larger than 6, imo.

Buttermilk has a good brunch, but they get real packed real quick. I don't think they do reservations.

Late Friday Dinner in Brooklyn

I'll "forth" it!

cocktails and nibbly things

Thanks for all the great suggestions, everyone! Haven't the faintest idea where I'll pick, but this give me something to work with.

cocktails and nibbly things

Hi all. I'm meeting a friend from out of town in a couple weeks, and wanted to take her to a decent place where we can have drinks and conversation--in other words, some place not loud. Also, it would be a nice to have some appetizers/small plates if possible. (But not necessary.) I was thinking about the Raines Law Room...any opinions? Is it quiet enough to talk there? (Yes, I am middle-aged, sorry.)

Would prefer someplace downtown (Chelsea, West/East Village, Tribeca, etc.) but if there is a place elsewhere that you think is great, by all means, I'd like to hear about it! Thanks very much.

Moving to Red Hook... what are your faves?

Kevin's is excellent for brunch. Fort Defiance has some pretty tasty sandwiches. Had an awesome dinner at Good Fork a while back. You've got some good pickings in RH!

Does anyone know if Tini wine bar is still around? I know they moved out of their old location (which had been near LeNell's) and were going to set up elsewhere, but I don't know if that ever came to pass.

best cupcakes in Manhattan?

The mere description of the Brooklyn Blackout cupcake is enough to inspire Homer-like drooling...thanks for the rec.

best cupcakes in Manhattan?

Ha! I wasn't seriously considering Magnolia as a possibility...I don't think I've heard anything remotely positive about their baked goods in general for a number of years now.

best cupcakes in Manhattan?

Cheers! Thanks for the help.

best cupcakes in Manhattan?

Hi all. I need to buy an assortment of cupcakes for an upcoming birthday celebration...any recommendations? I've heard mixed things about so many of the bakeries (Magnolia, Sweet Sunshine, etc.) I'm not sure what to think....I can be flexible on price, location.

(I did not find a specific thread on cupcakes in my search here, so apologies if I missed one.)

Thanks!
