Cheesemongers in TO . . . any hidden gems?

Costco's wedges of Parmigiano Reggiano are a fantastic value.

Flat White coffee just like in Australia & New Zealand

Next time at Starbucks, try ordering the latte "short". Much better ratio of espresso to milk, and it costs less too!

Chuck & Co (Liberty Village)

I probably won't be back.
I found the burger slightly bland and mushy. Ordered it with cheese, but couldn't taste it. I had a side of coleslaw, and, well, I like cumin but it was a bit overwhelming. Not to mention it was a pretty skimpy portion for the price. I can't speak for the fries, but they looked good.

I have to concur with the poster above, Merci Mon Ami's burgers are much better. Too bad they only serve them on Wednesdays.

Where to find spring ramps downtown

There are fresh morels, and fresh hedgehog mushrooms (i was surprised!) at Fiesta Farms right now.

Where to buy whipped cream chargers in Toronto?

Nikolaou Restaurant Equipment at Bathurst & Queen has them

Good $20-$25 red wine from LCBO?

I second the Village Reserve.it's pretty delicious.

The 2007 Megalomaniac "Sonofabitch" Pinot Noir ($25) is also quite delicious and food friendly.

Lunch ideas at Roncasvalles village?

Café Polonez will fit the bill quite nicely. You will leave stuffed, guaranteed.

Roncesvalles, north of Fern st.

CNE Ribfest

Just wondering if anyone has sampled the CNE's Ribfest vendors this year, and if they have any recommendations...

thanks,

Lunch at School - Liberty Village

I really do like the fried chicken there, and the pepper biscuits are yummy too...

Favourite (DIY) Wineries in downtown Toronto?

I have some friends that have had great results at Fermentations (201 Danforth Rd. @ Broadview) They use juice, instead of concentrate to make their wines. As well, in the fall, they get juice from Ontario grape growers. They also do beer and cider.

gluten-free beer

I was hoping that the KGBO would bring New Grist up here. I find La Messengere far too expensive.

Free Coffee at McDonald's in Canada

Do they have decaf too?

Looking for wedding wine

At my wedding we served Dunavar Muscat (LCBO 565812). It is an a touch off dry, aromatic white, and it is $7.95. Our guests were very enthusiastic about it, and it disappeared quickly.

Tasting Note
Medium straw with hints of green; aromatic nose of orange blossom, peach, pineapple with a hint of rose petal; dry, with grapey, tropical fruit flavours and a pleasant persistent finish.

New Addition to Parkdale - Manhattan

It's on my route home, so one of these days, I'll catch them open :-)

New Addition to Parkdale - Manhattan

Their dinner menu is up, nothing is over $18 (the most expensive one being the steak)
That those prices, if the food is decent, we might have a chowfind.

New addition to Liberty Village - Warehouse grill is no more...

That's smart, the area is a ghost town after 5pm....

Lalot Closed?

My friends called in "LaLess"...

SoupMan is back at Eaton Centre !

I tried the soup-man soups in the Food Building at the EX a few weeks ago, and I found them to be WAY too salty for my palate. The seafood bisque I had was impressive given the sheer amount of lobster in it, but the salt was overwhelming! Are the soups at the Eaton Centre any different?

College and Lansdowne: Where to eat?

There is a great pho place on lansdowne, east side, right in between college & dundas. Inexpensive and delicious...

as well, there seems to be a new portugese bbq place opening soon at dundas & lansdowne... Called "Gauchos BBQ" or something...

Terrible Experience at Ghandi on Queen

Its not corn meal, its split pea flour:
There are two kinds of roti you can get at Ali's
Dhalpouri Roti (with the pea flour in it) and paratha roti, which has no filling...

Best oxtail stew in TTC accessible areas in TO?

I love the oxtail at Island Foods (King & Dufferin), so rich and beefy...

Nice, reasonable restaurants in old montreal?

We ate quite well in Montreal last week.
Stayed at the Fairmount Queen Elizabeth, and really enjoyed the canapes in their Gold lounge.
The first night we had dinner at Fonduementale, delicious! I had lamb in broth and my wife had the honey chicken tempura in oil. Good quality meat, great service, and the chocolate fondue for dessert was amazing.

We had dinner with a friend the next night at Pied du Cochon, and think that place is overhyped, and overpriced. The price/value ratio is a little out of whack... That said, I did enjoy my seafood platter, and my wife's bison steak frites was good, if salty. Our guest was a little disappointed in the soft-shelled crab, and was expecting a little more for her money. Probably will not return there.

Topped off the weekend with a smoked meat sandwich at Ruben's, it was a great trip...

Nice, reasonable restaurants in old montreal?

Hi all,

Looking for the trifecta of nice, reasonably priced restaurants that won't need early reservations to eat at during my honeymoon next week. We're staying at the the Fairmount Queen Elizabeth, so hopefully there are nice places in old montreal that aren't horrible tourist traps.

We don't have a car, so anything that is walkable/transit friendly would be welcome.

thanks!

Lunch Queen West West/Roncesvalles

Easy is a great place, and won't be super busy as it isn't "Brunch time", Queen & Roncesvalles

Almond Milk - where can I buy it?

The No Frills at Lansdowne & Dundas has it for less than most other places.. its near the soy milk...

m

Where to have brunch in Roncesvalle Village?

Easy is great.

Noticed that they may be expanding the restaurant, as there is a large storefront on King St., just E. of Roncesvalles that has an "Easy" sign. It will have a great view of the lake!

Real Alsatian Choucroute

Brown Sugar: new parkdale bakery/deli

This place just opened up this past saturday in the same space as the infamous Blue Moon Bar that got shut down last year.

Small selection of good looking cheeses and deli meat, and its pretty inexpensive. Picked up two fresh rolls plus enough meat (a quite yummy hot mexican salami) for both for about $3. They have fresh cookies & some desserts, but since the place just opened, it looks a bit bare.

I wish them luck!
