just moved to the Northshore

Finz in Salem has an upstairs room you can rent for a party of that size and the food is typically good. I have also been to wedding showers and other parties at the Boston Yacht Club in Marblehead.

Big Pig BBQ, Lynnfield

I have been at a few gatherings catered by Tennessee's out of Peabody and the food was fantastic. They also offer a whole pig if that is what you are looking for.

Deli?

Evan's deli gets most of his food from Michael's Deli in Brookline. I have never been a fan of Evan's. Watching him microwave eggs in a plastic container sealed the deal for me. Marblehead has way too many better choices.

Excellent tortilla chips from an unexpected source

Just picked up a few bags at the Marshfield location and also some of the in-house made guacamole, both were awesome. I thought the in-house chips from Whole Foods were good but Stars are much more on the traditional side. Whole Foods seemed more like salted and fried pita. The Star/Shaws chain needs to reinvent themselves as they seem to be closing stores in the burbs. I will be back for more!

Best non-restaurant food spots in Boston (or other "foodie" recommendations)

Make your way to Harvard Square In Cambridge and stroll down Massachusetts Avenue toward Central Square, lots of interesting shopping and food in Harvard Square and along the way to Central Square.

Pubs with cool fireplaces

The Black Cow in Hamilton has a very nice fireplace in the center and decent food. Should be a little over 30 minutes up 128. Get off on route 1a in Beverly and continue north into Hamilton.

I haven't been to Red Rock since the former owner, Paul Petersiel, passed away recently. It does have a great view.

The Tides in Nahant has decent pizza and is located right on the beach. The walking/biking trail is right there and it is a flat 3 mile walk along the beach to Swampscott.

Halloween weekend in Plymouth, MA

We had a really nice meal at Nix's restaurant. For appetizers, we had the mussels and the shrimp skewers, both were excellent. I had the scallops over risotto and my partner had the fish tacos, both plates were fantastic. I was a bit surprised by how tasty the fish tacos were. She could barely finish the enormous portion and the fish was very fresh.

We tried to get into the Blue Eyed Crab as the menu was so tempting but they had a 45 minute wait. I so wanted to try their conch fritters.

The worst meal of the weekend and perhaps of my adult life was at Percy's Place on Main Street. We were treated like I imagine inmates are treated at the nearby prison. The food and service was so bad, we left two plates of barely touched food. We over heard a table at the hotel bar discussing that they had a very similar meal there on Friday and found the waitress to be rude and unprofessional. I am guessing we had the same waitress on our visit. Our bartender at the hotel informed us that their other locations are much better and the Plymouth one is known to locals as a "do not go" establishment.

olstice is on our list for our next visit in the spring.

Overall, a great mini vacation!

Help, hours are counting down. I am told we will be going to a Sam Diegos and Crabby Shack? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ken's Kickin' Chicken now open in Lynn

I too picked up a Thanksgiving pie over the weekend and was very impressed. The carrots were plentiful and tasted fresh from the garden. The crust was also very tasty. Better than Harrow's or Henry's in Beverly IMO.
