Help! - seeking great mid-range trendy spot with good food

Perhaps Aquagrill in Soho? My husband and I walked in there the other weekend without a reservation and it was hopping! Lively bar scene, cool outdoor space and good food. Great spot if you love raw bar.

11 Madison Park, Nougatine, or Gramercy Tavern???

Just had a FABULOUS meal at EMP last Tuesday for my husband’s birthday. I think both of our expectations were exceeded, we loved it. We chose the 3 course pre-fixe menu but literally, it ended up being 9 courses because of all the amuse bouches, intermezzes and petit fours. The food was sublime, the service was very attentive and professional but not overbearing, and the room is very grand indeed. We requested a romantic table in the back which was perfect for a more “intimate” birthday celebration. We had a wonderful time and were there for almost 4 hours! Also, don’t be afraid to take advantage of the byob for the $35 corkage fee if you have a special bottle lying around. It was worth it. Enjoy every moment, you made the right choice!

PS My husband got the duck and I got the beef which were both outrageous.

Deal at Daniel?

Thanks for your feedback, Jane. Do you remember what dishes were on the early bird menu? I don't see it listed on their website. Thanks.

Deal at Daniel?

Hi,

I recently read that Daniel is having an "early bird special"- 3 course pre-fixe with wine pairings is $98 (versus $105 with no wine pairings). The catch is you have to dine before 6:30 p.m. My husband were thinking of taking advantage of this deal for his birthday in two weeks. But before we go, has anyone taken part? I'm worried that it won't really be such a "deal" and the portions of food and wine will be quite small. Does anyone have any feedback from a recent experience? If so, your input is much appreciated. Thanks!

The Harrison - Superb

Unfortunately I did not have such a great experience when my husband and I dined at the Harrison last summer for my birthday. My husband had to send his lamb chop back because it was undercooked and the cut of the meat was very tough. The waiter was not very apologetic. GREAT outdoor seating in the summer for people watching, but overall we were not impressed. We would not go back.

Birthday Dinner with Friends- Wine Bar

My husband and I are planning to do a joint birthday celebration with our friends. We love wine and wine bars. Anyone have suggestions of a cute restaurant/wine bar where we can get a big table or area and order wine and small plates to share? It can be a restaurant or a bar type atmosphere. We want a place that doesn't require a pre-fixe menu. It will probably be around 15-20 people Thanks!

Kid Friendly- Mid-Town East

My sister is coming to town with my 10 month old nephew this weekend. We are looking for some kid friendly brunch and dinner ideas on the east side between the 30's up to the 60's. I don't have a child so I am at a loss. Any ideas?? Thanks!

Which of these four downtown restaurants should I go to for my anniversary dinner?

Out of the 4 I've only been to Perry Street (for lunch), but from what I know/heard/read about the others, I don't think any of them are in the same league as Perry St. Go there!

Girls Weekend: Where to take 8 mid-20s wanna-be-foodies?

I have a great idea for Saturday night dinner... Bacaro in the LES. The place is ADORABLE and perfect for large groups. Make sure you sit downstairs. There are plenty of long tables for groups of 8, and if you're lucky they might be able to seat you in yoru own private "nook". I believe they will make you do a pre-fixe, but I think it will be about 50 bucks a person not including drinks/tip/tax, so it probably wouldn't be more than $100 pp depending how much you drink. The food is Italian and the pre-fixe will be served family style.

Or, Inoteca in the LES would be fun for a group. There's a room downstairs that seats larger parties. Great for sharing plates. Love that place.

For brunch I would hit up Essex or The Stanton Social in the LES. Both would be GREAT and super fun for a group of gals.

As for snacks, how about Hummus Place in the East Village? Also, Viniero's for dessert? You can take out and do dessert at your apartment.

I've never been, but maybe The Bourgeious Pig would be a fun wine bar for Friday night?

If you're shopping in SOHO, Bar 89 is a fun stop to grab a drink. Don't forget to check out the bathrooms.

UES Hummus Kitchen

I just went for lunch yesterday with my husband. We stumbled upon Hummus Kitchen while walking around the UES. I was so excited that they opened up a hummus restaurant in that area. However, I have the give the food only satisfactory ratings. Hummus Place is sooooooooooooooo much better! My husband and I thought the dishes lacked flavor and it just didn't compare to Hummus Place. I may sound harsh don't think I will be back.

Greek in Astoria

My husband and I have been to two great Greek restaurants in Astoria that we really enjoyed- Telly's Taverna and Kyclades. Any others to recommend? We especially love fresh fish and spinach pie! Thanks!

Sunday night dinner & cocktails?

What about Chow Bar in the West Village- asian inspired food

Or maybe Essex or Schiller's in the LES? Not exactly "pubs" but they are all pretty casual and a fun, lively vibe.

low key dinner this new years eve

My husband and I went to Lavagna last year for New Years- great food and the price is right. It's dark and has a great vibe. We love that place.

What to order at Scarpetta?

My husband and I are dining at Scarpetta and we couldn't be more anxious to try this restaurant. We really enjoyed Scott at L'Impero, so hopefully the meal will live up to our expectations. Any advice on what to order?? Thanks!

Punch Restaurant-Any comments? Been There?

Don't love it- there are better places in the area. Try La Pizza Fresca, Sala 19, Giorgio's of Gramercy or Pipa.

Metrazur Wine Saturdays

I just read on Metrazur's website that they do "wine saturdays". You get a 3 course meal plus a bottle of wine (per 2 ppl) for $44 per person. What an amazing deal. But how good is it?? Has anyone done this? If so, what are your thoughts? Worth it? How's the food? Thanks!

dinner recommendation for special occasion gift

My husband and I just went to Telepan on the UWS and we loved it, not sure if that is considered "quintessential NY"? Gramercy Tavern is very much "NY", but the main dining room is pre-fixe only. The tavern part is wonderful, we love it, but they don't take reservations. I think Gotham may be a bit out of your price range.

The Harrison or others for 30th Bday?

Sorry... my husband and I recently ate at The Harrison on July 15th and we didn't love it at all. Great atmo (we sat outside), but the food was disappointing, especially for the price. My husband had to send his lamb chop back for being inedible. And then they did nothing to compensate the fact that I had to eat my birthday meal without him or let me food get cold. We were disappointed... but some people seem to love that place. Maybe it was an off night?

I'm taking my husband to Telepan for dinner on Monday for his birthday. We both have never been there before. Any recommendations of what to eat? Also, since we want to have a romantic dinner, any recommendations of where I should request to sit? Thanks!

Sunday Supper at The Harrison...

Just went to The Harrison for the first time last week for my birthday dinner with my hubby. We were both sorely disappointed. The beet and cheese salad appetizer was good, but nothing special, and the raviolini that the waiter recommended did not live up to the hype. My char was good, but again, nothing special, but my husbands lamb chop (which again came highly recommended by the waiter), was inedible and he was unable to cut through all the fat and veins. It was a horrible cut of meet. He sent it back and got the pork chop instead (again, nothing special and very plain). We received no compensation for the fact that he got a poor piece of meat, and I ate by myself for my birthday dinner. The atmosphere was wonderful- we sat outside and the service was very good, but unfortunately we thought the food was over priced and over hyped. But maybe our experience was an outlier.

Foodie B-day Dinner

Thanks, I'm glad you agree it's a good choice. Since it's a bit pricey, I'm thinking of treating our friends to some wine and a round of appetizers to share for the table. Are the portions big enough to do this? Any apps that you strongly recommend?

Great Sushi in NYC

I do not agree with the reviews of Poke. The sushi is not great, and the service is rushed and not friendly. It's definitely not in the same league as Yasuda.

Great Sushi in NYC

My hubby and I LOVE Yasuda. There is minimal decor, but if you want the best and freshest raw fish, this is the place to go.
