places to eat in Loreto and Mulege - Baja

Thank you both for your replies. Mariana, I had to cringe with your comments about the hurricane. My understanding is that Loreto fared pretty well, whereas Mulege did not. We still hope to visit in January.

Update on Nevada City

It's been a year and we're heading back. Want to go someplace nice for dinner, debating between Citronee and New Moon. Can you hounders weigh in on that one? New Moon seems more expensive, but if it's worth it, I would spring.

Santa Fe - Looking for New Mexican/Local Cheap Eats

I had the best red chile in my life at tecolate cafe, even though some people had said it was too touristy. It stained my mouth until I figured out that I needed to scrub it with hot water. Delicious! We had a strange experience at the Plaza. My husband found a long thin wire in his pork dish. They comped us a piece of delicious flan, though.

La Petite Rive in Little River?

thank you both for your replies. I knew the previous owners and it was one of my favorite places to dine, but then it closed and went through a strange incarnation. Can't wait to try and I'll spread the word too.

Where to have a nice lunch in Salinas?

There used to be a great Italian place where all the deputy sheriffs ate, but last time we were through it was undergoing renovation. We ate at Hullabaloos once, but wonder are there any other good places. We go through there on our way from Bay area to Santa Barbara about twice a year. I've read some things on previous boards about taco trucks, but I'm not sure I want that. I good sit down Mexican would be great.

Thanks!

ISO Telame cheese

His teleme is absolutely the best. I buy it regularly at Napa Valley Olive Oil in Healdsberg. I cannot imagine anyone saying it has gone downhill. We're just so glad he's back!

Good place for early dinner between Albq and Santa Fe

I need your advice on a good southwest food place on our way to Santa Fe. Could either be on I25 or on the "turquoise trail."

Thanks so much for your help!

Sandwich Suggestions - Sacramento

I like the bacon, lettuce, tomato and avacado sandwich at Lunch in the Park on the corner of L and 16th. Their other sandwiches look really good, too but I've only tried the one I recommended.

We spend quite a bit of time up there and I know there are several taquerias now, but I don't know which ones to try. Thanks for your help.

Mendocino and vicinity? What's to eat...

Try Nit's Cafe on Main St. in Ft. Bragg. Tiny place, Thai/American fusion, food presentation beautiful and food itself delicious.

Trip report: Ft. Bragg & Mendocino (long)

What a great trip report! My husband and I spend a lot of time in this area. I would recommend Nit's Cafe on Main St. in Ft. Bragg for your next expensive meal. Tiny place that serves both Thai and American food. Really wonderful presentation of food and the chef is a trip to watch.

Delicious Dives in Santa Fe?

Robyn, I appreciate the education and wasn't at all offended. Mimi, the ice cream entry is making me hungry.

On another note, no one recommended Dave's Not Here. Anyone have an opinion about it? I love the name!

Thanks for correcting my spelling. I feel like an idiot. I read in a guidebook last night that the NM green chile is known as the Hatch chile.

Delicious Dives in Santa Fe?

Thanks for the lengthy and helpful tips, salt of the earth. I also appreciate the cooking tips, but I wonder what kind of green chili do you use? I hate to be picky, but there are several green chilies. Anaheim? Poblano? Jalapeno? For some reason I was imagining something different, like a green salsa made from chilies on the burger.

What's the latest on Coyote Cafe?

My husband loves Mark Miller and wants to eat there when we visit, even though I understand that Mark Miller is now gone. I've read some posts here that it's no good, and some reviews elsewhere that agree. I wonder if anything has changed there? I notice they don't have a working website.

Thanks in advance for your reviews if you've eaten there lately.

Delicious Dives in Santa Fe?

My husband and I are planning a fall trip there and love to eat but not necessarily at picey restaurants. I'm looking for good Mexican and Southwestern style food that doesn't cost and arm and a leg.

Any suggestions along these lines?

Nevada City - where to eat?

Just back from Nevada City with a food report. Thanks for your suggestions. We ate at Dos Banditos, which was tasty, but I thought pretty standard American Mexican fare. It was too cold to sit on the patio, which is a really nice feature. I was looking forward to eating at Ike's Quarter Cafe, but was pretty disappointed. I think the emphasis on being green and vegan detracts from what I would consider really yummy cajun/creole food. My husband liked his gumbo of the day quite a bit, but had to keep adding hot sauce. My blackened catfish po boy had hardly any remoulaude on it and the blackening mix was not at all spicy. The bread it was served on was obviously vegan and tasteless. I say more power to the vegans, but wasn't expecting that a relationship could be made between them and New Orleans style food. When we left there, however, we came upon a treat of a place, just down the block. It was Dedrick's Cheese. Wonderful place full of great cheeses and breads and other gourmet items. We bought a mini chocolate pine nut tart, after being served a taste. Tried Lefty's Grill where we had a good meal. My husband had one of their thin crust pizzas and I had spinach basil ravioli that was really delicious. On our way out today we ate breakfast at the South Pine Cafe, which is a very fun place, old Beatles tunes blaring, had variations of eggs benedict, mine CA style with no meat.

Locals kept urging us to eat at Sopi's Tahi, but we feared another American Thai experience, with no heat. Anyone have any thoughts on that place? Also found a couple of fans of the Blue Moon Cafe, but didn't eat there. Some locals told me that Ike's Quarter Cafe had upset their stomachs because of the spices! Not my experience, to say the least. The patio seating there is great and they make good lemonade, but aside from that...

Mexican food in Woodburn Oregon

Yes, I heard they were selling them at some Walmarts, too, but it was far more fun and satisfying to buy them in Salvador's.

Thanks for the tips. I spent a lot of time in Salvador's; a wonderful place. Bought some Mexican cokes, which I love, and a pastry, and a tub of mole. Good tacos, too
