Last Minute: Good Eats in Woodstock, Vermont?

My hubby and I have decided at the last minute (!) to head up to Woodstock, Vermont for the long weekend. We've never been to Vermont before (from NYC) and so are very excited. Just booked where we're staying and am now looking into activities, hikes and food recs! Did a quick search here and see that folks had good things to say about Prince & the Pauper. Would appreciate any other food recs in and around Woodstock!

3 days - Scottsdale Restaurant Recs?

Ok -- I'n busted. I confess -- it's my husband who is in Scottsdale for sudden business -- and I've just clarified with him that he is indeed staying at the Phoenician, not the "Venetian" which is what I heard! Since I'm much more into food than he is and suspected that he might just stay in and order room service, I posted a Chowhound query in the hopes of directing him to good eats! But I should give him credit bec he apparently found and made his way to the Mission last night for what was apparently a delicious dinner! Thank you all for the recs! But if you have any more now that you know where he is, he (and I) are all ears!

3 days - Scottsdale Restaurant Recs?

Hi folks. Am in Scottsdale for an unexpected business trip from NYC. Am here until Thursday and looking for some good dinner recommendations. Open to anything ranging from divey but delicious to high end (and of course, still delicious!). Am staying at the Venetian but have a car. Thank you in advance!

40th B-day Dinner in the East Village for 10?

Looking for recs for my hubby's 40th b-day dinner in the East Village for 10 (party includes one vegetarian). Open to any and all cuisines, so long as food is excellent, but don't want it to be too sceney or crowded. Hearth is a frontrunner right now, but want to explore somewhat less pricey options as well. Looking for recs other than Mermaid Inn, Kanoyama, Apiary, I Coppi, the Momofukos and DBGB. B-day thankfully is still a few weeks away, so have time to make reservation! Thanks!

Review: Apiary at EV

Went to Apiary last night very much hoping to like it as I had heard a lot about it and it's in our nabe. Meal began auspiciously enough -- had the octopus to start. Really tender and delicious. But the entrees -- well, someone in the kitchen has a very heavy hand with the salt. The skate i had would have been absolutely delicious, but was a little too salty. But my husband's haddock (one of that night's specials) was awful -- practically tasted like it had been brined beforehand it was so salty. I found it virtually inedible. My husband has no interest in going back to Apiary. I'm still willing to give it a second try, but am not rushing back.

NYC Lobster roll search

I agree about Ed's. We tried the lobster rolls there a while ago, and thought they were delicious -- very light touch. But when we went back the other week, I was really disappointed. Way too much sauce/mayo, which made me seriously regret not just making my own rolls at home! (which is how I usually feel when I drop $27 for a lobster roll but used to not mind doing at Ed's back in the day every so often. Not anymore.

Shower Venue + tapas?

Am looking for a restaurant with a private room or set off space in which to have a shower for 10-15 people -- preferably with a fun vibe and good tapas options. I've heard Alta is good, but they're unfortunately open only in the evenings. Am planning on checking out Pipa tonight to see if there's a suitable, set off space. Would be grateful for any other recommendations!

9th Street Market - Closed?

A friend told me this weekend that they went to my favorite brunch place, 9th Street Market in the E.V., and it looked like it was closed (for good). Is this true and if so, does anyone know what happened?

Rehearsal Dinner in Chinatown

Hi foodlovernyc! I'm one of the folks who posted on the below link. One other thought -- recently went with a big group of friends to Red Egg (Chinese Peruvian place in Chinatown), which opened just last week on Centre, b/w Hester and Grand. Food was solid and the vibe is chic and fun. Since they're newly opened, maybe you could swing a good deal...

chinatown restaurant with party room space & great food

we actually had our rehearsal dinner at golden bridge restaurant last july -- they have a nice private room off the main banquet hall. seats about 70 max, i think we had about 50. it was on a friday night. i'd hesitate to do it on a sat. nite as i think it would be incredibly noisy since the main hall can get crazy. we also looked at chatham square but the main room was too big -- they have a smaller room downstairs but the low ceiling, stacked beer boxes and other stuff made it feel oppressive and very much like a basement room (i think that may have been the restaurant that also had the random mounted deer head downstairs, but i'm not sure! i kid you not...). we also checked out ping's -- thought about just blocking off the back room area with screens, but worried about the noise level w/o an enclosed room. golden bridge worked out great -- the food was delicious and they were definitely willing to negotiate the menu! my mother in law, who is cantonese, was very happy that we had it there as well.

Le Petit Canard? Anyone tried?

Oooh. My husband and I have also been eyeballing this place for what seems to have been MONTHS (we live in the neighborhood. We're also terribly curious as it looks cute and bistro-like. If we go, we'll be sure to send a report!

D'Artagnan Duck Breast?

Thanks for all of the responses folks!

D'Artagnan Duck Breast?

Does anyone know where to find D'Artagnan Duck Breast in NYC? I used it get it from Garden of Eden at the 23rd or 14th Street locations -- but they switched suppliers. Frank's at Chelsea Market also carried it but is now closed. Whole Foods doesn't carry it, nor do most supermarkets. Any ideas where I can get my hands on it relatively quickly?

Flurt Frozen Yogurt

my husband and i tried flurt a few nights ago and loved it as well! we liked it MUCH better than pinkberry -- didn't care much for the yogurt flavor there and the fruit toppings we got were so sour it bordered on being inedible. the blueberry & pineapple fruit toppings we had at flurt were really sweet and delicious (we also had raspberries that were not as sweet but still very good). so glad that it's in the neighborhood!

Best soup dumpling in the city?

i LOVE the soup dumplings at shanghai cafe (100 mott). my husband and i sometimes develop cravings for them and hightail it down there...

Rehearsal Dinner Space for 40-70 People

Congratulations on the engagement! I don't have any suggestions for rehearsal dinners (we're still looking!) - but in terms of some spaces - we're going with the Puck Building. Looked at Manhattan Penthouse but they said it maxes out at around 175 or so (there are tons of fantastic spaces when you're

kick a$% caterer for a NYC wedding!?

the subject header was just for attention grabbing purposes, not to be crass - sorry! but i am casting about for a wedding caterer for a sit down dinner for 200, standard American fare or Asian influenced. loft space in manhattan, looking to spend about $130-$150pp (providing my own alcohol), altho with all things wedding related, that number will probably go up up up! but seriously, i would like to keep it around this figure. have heard good things about the movable feast, the raging skillet and marcey brownstein - food matters, seasons and some place called 9 Events in B'lyn also appear to be within budget but i don't know anything about their food. i'd be grateful for opinions from anyone who has worked with these caterers. obviously, my primary concern is their food - if it isn't delicious, I don't want them! any other thoughts on their services would also be appreciated, as would recs for other fantastic caterers. no one way beyond my budget please - i know folks on this board like the cleaver company or olivier cheng and such, but they're beyond even my ever expanding wedding budget! thanks so much!

Event Spaces in nyc

whoah - hadn't checked this in a while so didn't realize you had responded. thanks jon. i've heard good things about the yale club but we already booked a different loft space! who is catering your wedding if I might ask? we're still looking...

Event Spaces in nyc

My fiance and I are casting about for reception spaces as well but having trouble finding something large enough (175-200 guests) and affordable in Manhattan! Alger House looks lovely, but is too small. I think the same folks run Manhattan Penthouse though - totally different feel but seems like a nice loft space. Has anyone heard anything about the food there? Any particular caterers to recommend? I have calls out to Movable Feast, Raging Skillet and 9 Events - trying to get an idea of what catering an event at a place like the Foundry or the Picnic House in Brooklyn would run v. an all-inclusive location. Like apples and oranges tho so having problems. Any advice from folks?

Park Savoy in Florham Park - Wedding & Food?

If I might ask, where did you end up booking and about how large was the wedding? Yes, I'm troubled by the inability to taste before booking, particularly as commentary on their food isn't readily available on the internet (other than on their website, which is obviously somewhat self serving). I've found onyl one review - it was glowing, but still...

Park Savoy in Florham Park - Wedding & Food?

My fiance and I have been checking out reception venues for a wedding in NJ. Recently saw the Park Savoy in Florham Park, NJ - loved the house and the grounds but were wondering if anyone knew anything about the food? Unfortunately, they don't do tastings before contracting and I don't know anyone who has gotten married here. I'm a little leery of signing w/o knowing more about the food because we were that close to making a deposit with another place a few weeks ago - but changed our minds after a very disappointing tasting. Figured if they can't get their acts together for 2 people, then it's all downhill for 200! So comments from hounds would be appreciated! Thanks.

First Date Place in East Village/Gramercy Park

I def'ly second (or third?) Cacio e Pepe, Zerza and OG. Would also throw in 26 Seats - very cozy and somewhat romantic (nice for a first date, actually!).
