new french bistro in Lincoln

Thumbs up from me. Shirmp Tempura (served in a light sauce) was a killer appetizer. The asparagus salad in truffle vinaigrette was a perfect salad. I didn't really like the duck breast my wife ordered, but my cod served over beans was outstanding. Finished with creme brullee, served with fruit and visibly laden with vanilla beans. The service was first rate. Christian is a wonderful host. I wish it had a little more of a bar and it's too pricey for me to go as often as I'd like, but overall it's a great place for dinner.

I don't think they serve bar food in the dining room. They might be able to put tables together in the bar to handle your party. I'd give them a call. Or, do the dining room this time--it's fine-- and come back later for the bar experience.

River Rock Grill in Maynard

I was in there Saturday night and it was not great. To be fair, they'd only opened Tuesday and were still working out bugs. The biggest issue was that the main course took probably 40 minutes after the we'd finished our salads. We were eating at the bar and the bartendress apologized several times, but no one comped us a drink. The menu wasn't particularly inspiring and the execution was just fair. The fish stew, which sounded fantastic with 6 different types of seafood, in fact had three small chunks of scallop in a bowl of liquid.

I'm guessing RR will graduate from a C- to a B when the staff get their act together, but I don't see an A in its future.

Still good. Above description still holds.

Madison's in Lincoln

Yes it was a big deal at town meeting. Brace yourself, someone is applying for a license for a wine and cheese shop as well and it it appears to be in the works.

Madison's in Lincoln

Anyone know anything about when Madison's is supposed to open in Lincoln? Originally they were saying Jan 15. The sign in the window still says "Opening this Winter". (except for today when someone posted Hooters signs over it as an April Fools joke). I'm eager to try out Lincoln's first restaurant with a beer/wine license. What is up?

One more vote for the bar. I had a Cubano last night that blew by Sox off. And the vibe was delightful.

Thanks for that. Whew! Yes, I saw some burgers go by and they looked terrific.

Call me crazy, but I quite enjoyed Joe's American B&G in Framingham last night. The meatloaf was outstanding, and the bite of cod I tried was terrific as well.

The Serafina owner's (who also own Sierra's, a lousy IMHO Mexican place in Sudbury) are opening a place to be called Madison's in Lincoln next month. We'll hope they do better.

Had one of my favorite entres ever at Sel de la Terre (haddock with avocado/pistachio sauce), but I can't get beyond its mall location.

Good Mexican Food in Bean Town?

I had a similar reaction to Cancun in N. Plymouth. Very similar to Acapulcos' menu. Not sure about the ownership.

Good Mexican Food in Bean Town?

I had dinner last night at Ixtapa in E. Lexington and quite enjoyed.

If you are into lamburgers, I recommend Watch City Brewery in Waltham. Last time I had one there I dreamt about it for a week.

Concord, Lexington, Arlington?

I've heard good things about Daikanyama too. Dabin isn't great, but I like being able to combine Sushi with Korean BBQ and, in the summer months, the outside seating is pleasant.
I was actually logging back on to mention Zocala Cocina; I've only been once, but thought it was very good.

I just had a delightful dinner at Ixtapa in East Lexington. I'm a a Mexican fan and Ixtapa is up there with the best in area.
Dabin is Lexington is pretty good Japanese/Korean.
Concord doesn't have much. Walden Grille is Ok, but I only ever eat at the bar. The Colonial Inn doesn't do much for me.

Marginal time at Tu y Yo

Mr Dobalina, Mr Bob Domalina...luckily I split the dish with my wife and she put the breaks on as I was bulling through.

I'm also impressed with Ixtapa in east Lexington.

Marginal time at Tu y Yo

The service was OK, not great. 4 out of 5 tamales were good. The fish one was very fishy. And they were small and over priced. The house salad was fresh but bland. The shrimp crepe was quite good with an tasty sauce. The pork dish was good, but could have used some tortillas. And the chicken flautas we ordered because the above was not enough for two, included chicken gone bad. They took it back with apologies and didn't charge us for it, but the meal still worked out to be pretty expensive.

Has anyone else had a bad experience there?

Went to CIK for the third time tonight and I keep being more impressed every time I'm more impressed. Went with small dishes tonight and they were across the board outstanding: Taquitos, Tuna Tartar, Sloppy Joes, Spicy Fries. Add a couple of salads for two people...really good.

I tried the burger. It was good, but I wasn't blown away. I've definitely prefered other entrees. The Chilotle Squash soup was outstanding.

Good point, and Spagetti Bolognese, but I'll bet both are too good for kids. Glad to hear the burgers are good. I'll try one next time; you can try my short ribs!

It think it's fine for a 2 year old. It's not fancy per se; it's more bar like. I doubt they have a kids menu, however, and I did note that there was nothing on the menu to cater to kids, so byo kid food. My picky eater daughter can always be shut up with chicken fingers and a green salad, but would not have found anything like that on the CIK menu.

Had dinner tonight at the Cast Iron Kitchen in Maynard. In short it was killer. Nice cozy ambiance. Friendly waitstaff. Chilpotle Squash soup was outstanding. My wife had the Tuna Steak and I had the Short Ribs; both were as good as I've had and the presentation was gorgeous. We split a fruit tart for dessert; it was out of the ordinary with a balsamic based sauce...fresh, subtle and delicious. And all reasonably priced with parking out front.

Best IPA

Probably what I like most is that I first had one with Fritz Maytag the owner of Anchor Brewing after a very cool, low key tour of the brewery about 25 years ago. But you don't need that experience to enjoy it. Good head, good carbonation. Medium body. Crisp, bitter, slightly citrus flavor. Probably not the hoppiest, but certainly hoppy. Cool looking label.

No one's mentioned Anchor Liberty....that's another I'd put on the good list.

Best IPA

I am an IPA guy through and through. Dogfish Head 60 minute is tops for me, although I recently had a Snake Dog and thought it was pretty close. Harpoon IPA is my staple. I also love Sierra Nevada Pale Ale which doesn't claim to be an IPA, but nonetheless.

Other votes?

Chow in the Western Burbs

I should say, the two or three times I went to Sierras I had the Mexican entrees. Maybe the fish is good. The Mexican food is like nothing I've had elsewhere and, to me at least, not very good. I recall the enchilladas having a distinctly black pepper flavor. I like black pepper, but it's not Mexican.
