Is there ANY authentic Mexican/Tex-Mex in Bethesda or Rockville?

Man, I gotta say that their menu makes me want to run quickly in the opposite direction. Steak&Cheese? Grilled Chicken Asian Salad? Chicken BBQ Wrap? Wings? Bagels?

Anywhere in the DC/Bmore area that's like Amsterdam Falafelshop but with Meat?

Second Max's, but don't forget that it's kosher, so closed Friday night and and Saturday.

Eloping in DC

I think the most romantic dining room in the city is at Marcel's, and the food is fabulous.

Is there ANY authentic Mexican/Tex-Mex in Bethesda or Rockville?

Tortacos and Taco Bar, both in Gaithersburg, have pretty authentic Mexican food (not Tex-Mex).

El Mariachi in Rockville is decent, but it's a full restaurant, not a taqueria, and kinda covers lots of Central and South American, not just Mexican.

Rio Grande is probably the best Tex-Mex I've had in the area.

ISO downtown DC restaurant with gluten free free menu

I don't know if Cleveland Park counts as "downtown" to you, but Dino has a great GF menu.

Good kid-friendly restaurants in Frederick and/or Cumberland?

I was pleasantly surprised by Isabella's Taverna a few months back on a day in Frederick. It's primarily a tapas place, although they have some entrees and sandwiches as well. Decent wine list, large dining room, lots to find for the kids, and they take reservations. No outdoor seating, though.

Real Buffalo Wings Needed

I've had some luck at local places by simply asking for "extra crispy".

Del Ray, Alexandria neighborhood destinations

OK, I'll play.

Los Tios isn't Mexican - it's Salvadorean, and only a mediocre Salvadorean place as well. Evening Star is a shadow of it's former self now that Chef Artley is at Orso.

But I'll definitely give you Cheesetique - I drive down from Potomac for their tastings regularly. I've given up dining in Del Ray before or after the events, because I haven't found any place worth staying for in the area.

Recommendations to eat well and stay on my diet in D.C. Fish ? Italian ? greek ?

Black Salt is definitely the best seafood around.

If you need to stay downtown, Kellari Taverna is a Greek seafood restaurant. Very good, if a little on the pricy side.

Silver Spring

Well, then it wouldn't be easier for you. :-)

1 night in DC - need recommendations for dinner - staying in Georgetown

As much as I love BlackSalt, it's not really walkable from Georgetown. (assuming the OP is somewhere on/near M St.)

Citronelle lounge would definitely work, as would Ris.

Silver Spring

That sounds about right, unfortunately. Some places will take the info for the form over the phone and send you the GC.

In the end, it's usually easier to go into the restaurant and buy the GC in person.

Silver Spring

I wouldn't go with email if I were you - I'd call. Websites and email are things that restaurants check occasionally when time allows. The phone needs to be answered for their business.

Plus, what are you going to do - send your credit card via email? You're going to have to call anyway - I'd start there.

Ray’s to the Third

The Hell-Fried chicken is definitely not as hot as the name implies, and the whole pieces are better than the sandwich, but the hot sauce it comes with definitely ups the heat factor.

Fogo de Chao - Brazilian BBQ [moved from DC/Balt]

Not the same food at lunch - substantially wider selection of meats and salad bar at dinner.

mrsphud - FdC is similar in quality to the old Green Field in Rockville at it's prime, though the selection of some of the more interesting cuts and side dishes is not there.

I wouldn't normally say it's worth $50, but if your husband is paid for, think of it as two for $50, and all you do is have to sit through the speeches. Bring your Kindle. :-)

Mintwood Place

I was also there a little over a month ago.

Like Elyssa, I liked the food a lot, but the cocktails were terrible. Service was very friendly. Take care when ordering - vegetables, sauces, etc. are used in multiple dishes, so we accidentally ordered some things that differed only by the protein, and weren't warned by the server.

College Park area food?

Actually, since you bring it up, there's one place that does stand out - Da Rae Won in Beltsville. This is Korean/Chinese food, and it's very very good.

Only about 2 miles north of 495 off Rte. 1.

Oval Room, Vidalia, Proof, Blue Duck Tavern, Acadiana, or somewhere else?

I haven't been to Vidalia since RJ left, but I used to lunch regularly at Acadiana. It's definitely a good lunch spot, but Oval Room and Proof are miles better. I've had some fantastic lunches (and dinners) at Oval Room. I can't say I've had lunch at Proof before, but it's one of my favorite dinner spots in the city. BDT I also don't have recent experience with.

I don't think you can miss with Oval Room or Proof.

Moa in Rockville?

Ditto!

New Hong Kong style restaurant in Rockville - East Pearl

I do now!

New Hong Kong style restaurant in Rockville - East Pearl

I wasn't denying your experience, just providing another perspective. One person's "loud" is another person's "energetic".

We need Sietsema to review this place so he can measure it in decibels. :-)

New Hong Kong style restaurant in Rockville - East Pearl

I was in there last night during peak dinner time, and the place was absolutely full.

I would call it boisterous, but not LOUD. Not nearly as loud as downtown restaurants and bars are these days. My dining companion and I were easily able to have a conversation across the table with only slightly raised voices.

Status of China Bistro (aka "Mama's Dumplings") in Rockville?

Absolutely. Several high chairs and friendly staff.

Read this post and a half dozen more for one we did 5 years ago:

Status of China Bistro (aka "Mama's Dumplings") in Rockville?

YES! OPEN!

Couldn't wait any longer so we went for dinner tonight. No change in the food, but the interior is completely different. Combined the front and side spaces so there's one large dining room, which increases the seating area pretty substantially. New floors, walls, and paint, so the place looks brand new. (Some tables and chairs stayed, but they added new ones.) And the bathroom is now in the front, rather than behind the kitchen.

I think they've graduated from hole-in-the-wall status!

Little Serow in DC – Report

I'm sure those empty tables are for people who put their name down on the list at 6, were texted that their table was ready, and hadn't made it back yet.

Weekday quotes for a table if you arrive at 6 are still 90 min - 2 hrs.

Soft Shell Crabs in DC

Actually, I've already seen them at Mintwood Place and Dino.

I would check Blacksalt as well.

I always used trips to the bathroom through the kitchen as an excuse to talk with the family members making the dumplings!

Recommendations

Pho DC is probably $3-$4/bowl more than other places in the suburbs, but it's not IN the suburbs, it's in downtown DC. There are few places you can get dinner downtown under $15.

GREAT NEWS, dumpling fans!

I went into the strip center today to see if there was any update. First thing I noticed was a sign on the glass from the owners, saying to please be patient during renovations. There is also no longer a Stop Work Order from the county.

But, as I was getting back into my car, I saw one of the women who is usually behind the counter coming up the walk. She recognized me, smiled, and said thank you for coming and checking on us. They did a complete renovation. The kitchen is largely done and they are just waiting on the permits, which they hope to have in the next few days. Workers were building back up the front room while we were talking.

DUMPLINGS SOON!
