Loud and louder restos: Maybe I'm getting old, but...
There was an intereesting article in the LA times a few days ago on the front page about Water Grill and how they transformed into a louder more hipper, cheaper place to attract the younger 20-30's crowd. Places are trying to get away from super expensive, quiet high end atmospheres as it brings in less people.
on another note, i love loud places...it makes it easier to take my 2 year old! haha

LA foodie needs help
going to vegas this weekend and need a place for a friday night dinner.. we have one veggie only person in our group.
someplace that does not require us to dress up too much. but at the same time, not a place you can walk in with a tank top and sandals..hehe
If any of you are familiar with the LA scene, looking for something similar to Hatfields, Rivera, Picca, etc
around the $30-50 range per person (not including drinks).
maybe a place with a 3 or 4 course tasting special for like $50 or so.
trying to avoid steakhouses, sushi or asian.
can be on strip or off strip.
Thanks!
where can I get all you can eat crab legs in los angeles area?
i think Hokaido has them too. no alaskan, but smaller crab legs
just be warned..most of these asian buffet places are horrible..even with the all you can eat crab, i dont go to them :)
previous rec for scarpetta is a great one...
BEST New York Style Cheesecake in Los Angeles!
how do does cheesecakes compare to the "cheesecake factory"?
never really had cheesecake at other places so not even sure how good it is or not....hahah
thanks!
Last Minute Christmas help for Korean Parents in SFV or near by (LA)
budget?
if unlimited, you can try to book them for Urasawa ($400-500 per person with tax tip drinks). about a 3 hour dinner of sushi bliss.
if they like seafood, you cant go wrong with the tasting menu at Providence ($150 per person)
im sure others can chime in on sushi places along ventura blvd area as well.
911! Surprise guests coming in on the train: where to eat close-ish to Union Station?
agreed!
Angry Birds Cake
Check with Portos Bakery. I see them make all kinds of neat cakes with all kinds of designs for kids (think disney characters, etc)
The Next Iron Chef: Super Chefs (Episode 6 "Food Auction") [Spoilers]
i find it amazing that they only have one mixer in the kitchen....
Wine Bars
Bottlerock in downtown near staples.
a new wine bar opened up La Brea and 3rd street. forget the name though.....anyone?
pre cooked turkey dinners
Hi all:
going to my cousins home for turkey day and they will be buying one of those pre-cooked turkey dinners from Ralphs. My cousin is not much of a cook..heheh
are there any tips on re-heating methods to prevent it from drying out too much?
Any tips would be appreciated!
Hokkaido Seafood Buffet Opens In Westside Pavilion
i will avoid..I tried it once (in law wanted to go there for her bday)...and i said i would never ever go again..
wheres the nearest panda express!?
New Iphone app: Chef's Feed
anyone check out Chef's Feed. its a new iphone app.
pick a city and it shows you a list of the top chefs, their restuarants, their favorite dishes in the city, etc. Kinda cool just to read through each chef and see what they like. and also lists their favorites on a list/map view.
pretty neat and looking forward to how they expand this app.
Providence...very good, but disappointing
also people seem to enjoy the tasting menu a lot more. both in food and service.

SHORT ORDER opens Nov 18 at Farmers Market.
wow so umami is supposed to open up a huge space there..and now Short order. Would be interesting to see which burger joint wins the FM crowd...
First drink
you are right..for some reason i was thinking of Friday-Sat nights. hahah
ya, Sun-Thursday should be okay.
SHORT ORDER opens Nov 18 at Farmers Market.
details on what this place is? never heard of them..
First drink
i would say so...unless you get there right when they open and have drink before the "young" crowd starts flowing in. it will get super crowded and you might feel out of place.
First drink
oh..just realized you stated the bar needs to be a place where the kid wont be ashamed to be in there with parents...well, then....get to these places when they open. any of these places after 10 becomes a hangout for the twenty to thirty crowds.
so best bets might be bars at restuarants as some have suggested. Here are my favorite restuarant bars:
Picca
Rivera
Varnish

Are you talking about Providence on Melrose?
if yes, never knew about the bar..you can just walk in for the bar? no need to order food? do you still need to be dressed well just for the bar?

Seven-Grand: awesome Scotch bar. you cant go wrong there for a legit glass of scotch.
get an Old Fashioned (use a lower end scotch like J Walker Red). They make the best old fashioned in all of LA.
Then get a nice glass of sctoch served neat. Their Scotch list is impressive.
Drive between Vegas and LA
once you go past the San Gabriel Valley (alhambra, rowland heights, etc), you are pretty much limited to chains and diners.
