Toscana- Greenwich

Have not tried, but the owner freaks me out. He lingers outside inviting people in like they do at the tourist traps of little italy. I think he was/is owner also of Terra/Mediterraneo, et al. Arjomand??

Chipotle opening on Greenwich Ave (Greenwich, CT)

Sorry -- just wondering where your store will be and where will chipotle be. A street number would work to orient me as well. Thanks

ReNapoli in Old Greenwich?

Thought I'd followup my own post . . . About 4 tables of 4, byob, harsh lighting, excellent food. Mainly a take out, counter style pizzeria, but the food is very authentic Italian. Choice of three styles of pizzas (loads of variations), normal cooked menu items, Chicago beef and excellent salads. Very dedicated staff.

what store are you and Chipotle replacing?

ReNapoli in Old Greenwich?

Just looking to find out more about this place. For example, could a group of 9 or 10 go there and be seated? Is there table service or is it like a pizzeria? Wine? Any details would be appreciated. Thanks

Penang Grill, Greenwich, Ct

We love Penang and go there at least once per week. My favorite is the big bowl seafood udon soup which just is very "clean" food. When everyone complains about fat and calories in restaurant food, this is something I feel I can eat without any consequences. If I'm having a bad week, I ask them to leave the noodles out and just have shellfish, vegetables and a clear broth. It's great. Service is great. There are many choices when you're in a mood to indulge as well. It's byob as well, so the bill is never high.

Birthday Dinner Prix Fixe with Wine Pairing?

I would appreciate a recommendation for a nice place to take a friend for his 50th birthday.
There will be 4 of us (2 couples) and I'd love it if we can have something for $150 or less pp.
They are coming in from NJ so would like the restaurant to be convenient to one of the tunnels.
Cuisine choice is open but we'd like a spot with good service.
Thanks in advance.

Tarry Lodge - any recent experiences?

I'd like to know more about the salmon carpaccio. We definitely notice an "underdressed" pasta trend there.

Great Fried Shrimp in Westchester

I always liked the fried shrimp at Gus's in Harrison, but haven't been there in years.

Emerson Hotel, Emerson

I can't believe it is still there. My father would take us there in the 60's and 70's and we'd have the steak with the flat, fat-soaked toast on the bottom. Then we would go somewhere nearby for crumbcake. It was a real fat-fest but I'd like to go back.

Enrico's Pastry Shop of Hartsdale to move and expand

Great! Let's keep up the bashing the same way Joe does to his customers and staff!

Enrico's Pastry Shop of Hartsdale to move and expand

Glad to hear I'm not alone. Lots of places have good eats, but good people should be rewarded and lousy people should try to be nicer.

Batali coming to Westport, CT (Abbondanza)

I've heard the Darien spot is dead and someone else took the space already.

Gabriel's?

I heard it's the place where Luca's was -- on Church St.

Wanted to know the Best and Worst Restaurants of Greenwich, Ct?

I know. It's a total ripoff. Lovely spot, but the food/menu is totally boring.

Wanted to know the Best and Worst Restaurants of Greenwich, Ct?

Excellent service at Valbella makes it a very good choice for a special occasion. Thomas Henkelmann was very disappointing on a recent visit.

Lake George

Lake George is like a desert for foodies. Since you mention upscale, you might try some of the restaurants at The Sagamore. You can also take a dinner cruise. It won't be great food, but the views are great.

Enrico's Pastry Shop of Hartsdale to move and expand

Joe and his family are not good people. Avoid supporting them if you can.

Reception Site CT/NY border

I'm not sure of costs, but there is a pretty stone building in the Renaissance hotel on the border of White plains and harrison. I went there for a daytime bar mitzvah and it was very pleasant. The Delamar in Greenwich might be a nice choice. We attended an event at the Harvest restaurant in Hastings and it was very pleasant. Cocktails outside overlooking the hudson and a simple dinner. Don't be afraid to negotiate for the price you need. Maybe you don't need a full open bar, but just beer, wine and some type of signature drink (harvest serves a wonderful sangria). I totally overdid the food, etc at my wedding and did not need half as much as I had.
Congratulations and enjoy the day.

Fun restaurant for Small Sweet 16 Dinner

I did something very similar in September. i went with El Rio Grande on 38th and 3rd. The did a $35 prix fixe for me including virgin margaritas and soft drinks. Very nice appetizer plates, table side guac, salad, main course and then table side ice cream sundaes. It was great and fun and it was in the restaurant, just off in an alcove, so the girls had some buzz around them.

Need a recommendation near Penn Station, please

I'm meeting a picky eater who is coming in from Long Island. Any ideas of a decent place within 4-5 blocks? Not super expensive -- entrees in $20's ok. Thanks

Saturday night prix-fixe in Southampton...

I believe Le Chef ( on Jobs Lane) offers prix-fixe. Not sure about others.

Recommendations Near 39th and 6th Ave

How about some of the places in Grand Central? Naples 45 or Cafe Centro or Metrazur?

NEED a restaurant that would be good for ENTIRE mom's side of family (23 people!)

We did a nice Mexican party at El Rio Grande for roughly the same number of people. It was a lot of food and pleasant atmosphere. They charged us $35pp including soft drinks and virgin margaritas for a Saturday night. We had a ton of nachos, guacamole (made tableside), assorted appetizer plates, salad, choice of 5 or 6 entrees and then family style ice cream sundaes made tableside. Very nice touch.

Anniversary dinner w/kids in Greenwich

Lloyd, since you'll be on Greenwich Ave, try any of the following: Ginger Man (very casual, interesting beers, I forget what is was called in the past - before it was 64 Greenwich Ave - look at menu online), Morello Bistro (Nicer italian, quieter pretty setting, was probably Bertrands or Dome in your day) or Elm Street Oyster House (more bustling atmosphere, great appetizers and small plates and salads along with a large selection of fish, love the crabcakes or fish tacos - they'll make any kind of chicken or beef for non-fish eaters), or Terra (more casual Italian, wood fired pizzas, chicken, etc. - I prefer Morello if going Italian). I have not been to Avenida, but you can search the boards for reviews. It's a new Mexican where Bleu was before. I'm sure you'll enjoy wherever, but let us know what you end up doing. Congrats

Anniversary dinner w/kids in Greenwich

When someone says Greenwich, I think downtown Greenwich, but of course, Valbella in Riverside is a wonderful place for a celebration. Also, La Cremalliere in Banksville is great. Did you have a favorite when you lived here or last visited?

Anniversary dinner w/kids in Greenwich

Congratulations!
It would really depend upon what experience you would like. We’ve lived in Greenwich pre-kids and still do with our kids. We’ve taken them just about everywhere and found all to be accommodating. The first thing that comes to mind is L’Escale, even though the service is just horrible. They have a good kids menu and the food on the regular menu is really very good. Thomas Henkelmann, has wonderful service and also accommodates children – it is a much pricier option. We love a casual meal at Elm Street Oyster House and have had very good meals recently at Morello Bistro. Of course, the loud boisterous celebrations at the Japanese hibachi place – Abis – still go on and are fun and festive.
Tell us more about your preferences and budget and whether your children eat from the standard menu or a kids menu and I can help you much better.

Excellent Place for An Anniversary Dinner

price around $200 or so
more on the European/American cuisine side I'd say.
location is flexible. Manhattan
