GQ's 50 Beers to Try

That is a decent list....I've had quite a few of them already, but would like to complete the list!

If I like these beers, which others should I try?

I like Founder's Dirty Bastard and Stoudts Scarlet Lady...both are pretty low on the hops flavor

Summer Beers Are Here!

Scarlet Lady is one of my 'go to' beers. I love that stuff!

Worst Beer Ever?

I actually found that to be a decent beer for being made by one of the big guys. It certainly isnt the best, but I thought it was half decent, IMHO

Westvleteren 12

I've had the St. Bernardus 12, and found it to be exceptional. Haven't had the Rochefort as of yet.

Harpoon Island Creek Oyster Stout

I had this Sunday on tap. I was good, but not great. It had a slightly bland nondescript taste, kind of like Guiness

Philadelphia PA beer filled weekend

Thanks...I'm from Allentown, so I've had those (in fact Weyerbacher is 15 mins from me, take a tour if you ever can, it is fantastic!!) I've also been to the Victory brewpub, and hope to visit Stoudts, I love the Scarlet Lady....

I'm in a huge Belgian phase right now....which makes Monks perfect. I would like to visit The Belgian Cafe which is the sister theo Monks, correct? I've heard of Johnny Brendas also. I really need to visit Philly more than I do!

Philadelphia PA beer filled weekend

I'm heading to Philly for my birthday and The Philly beer festival on March 6. I've been to Monks, and plan on hitting SPTR and Eulogy...any other ideas for places NOT to miss? I'm looking for those with top notch selection and or a unique experience as my girlfriend will be with. I appreciate the help!

Founders Dirty Bastard

Holy Crap....I had this for the first time yesterday and I was blown away. This is one fine beer. My Scottish Ale experience is somewhat limited, I've had SkullSplitter, which is good, but this stuff was incredible. I've had Founders KBS and that is excellent as well. I was just wondering if there is any other exceptional beers in the Scottish Ale genre that I may be missing out on, or any other Founders offerings that I should be aware of.

Pete's Wicked Ale

Brooklyn turns out some fine beers, once a year I try to get a sampler case. I really like the Stout they put out

Thanks for the tip...I did find this palce when looking online. It is so hard for me to feel confident I'm getting the product stored and handled the way it was meant to be when it has traveled so far....

I guess my issue is, not the price, I'd be willing to pay it (at least once), but rather that I'm getting the real product, in the correct condition. If anyone knows a rather reliable place to get it, let me know. I love ebay, but am very leary of ordering something like this from there.

Pete's Wicked Ale

I haven't had a Pete's in 10+ years...it was my first introduction to a world outside of Bud....it will always hold a special place in my liver. But seriously, I don't even remember what I did or did not like about it, I'll have to try one again for the first time.

I'm trying to find out is this really worth the effort. Westy is consistantly considered the best beer possibly in the world. What I want to know is, is it because of the exclusivity and how it is near impossible for us commoners to get it, or is it really that good. My guess is that if it was available in bars/distributors across the country, it wouldn't be that big of a deal, it may be good, but not quite the holy grail. There was a time when Coors wasn't readily available and that was something people thought they must have. Anyway....I'd love to have some, but that will probably never happen. Has anyone every had this magical stuff, and is it really that good? (Oh and if there is a way to get it, let me know!)

The Lion's Pride/Ebenezer's Pub in Maine

Here in Allentown, PA we have a fantastic bar called The Liberty Street tavern and they, withing the last month, had 120 min on tap, it is a rare sight indeed.

What seasonals are you drinking this winter?

Ahhhh...At last check, Liberty Bell in Allentown had some left, they actually had some from last year that they were going to sell as 'aged'. I don't know if this happened or not

What seasonals are you drinking this winter?

I would agree, Mad Elf is hands down my favorite winter beer. The ABV does catch up to you fast though. I want to get my hands on a second case and cellar it for next year.

Most Overrated Beer?

I agree about the 'bigs'. A lot of my friends don't like some of my more extreme beers (in their eyes). So I keep some more mainstream on hand. I think Michelob is doing a heck of a job blending the craft and macro. One of my favorite 'non craft' beers is their Amber Boch. It is IMHO a good beer with a great price tag. I wouldn't call it extremely innovative or ground breaking, but a great session beer or for when I have non beer geek friends over.

Winter Brew Battle

Never Summer (A colorodo brewery whose name escapes me...) And Troeggs Mad Elf, at 11% it is high but has superb drinkability, love that beer!!

So Hounds, How many Beers?

It depends, anything 'Big', Troegs Mad Elf, Founders KBS, Dogfish 120....only 2 maybe 3. 'Regular' beers (up to 7 or 8%) I can do a good 5 or 6, the really rare nights may see 7 or 8...but those are few and far between now that I've 'grown up'

What are you drinking right now?

Yesterday: Guiness 250, and tonight I think I'll crack a Kentucky Breakfast Stout...I scored a case!

Worst Beer Ever?

Can there really be a worst beer ever?? I don't think this is something anyone can actually prove as taste is subjective. I only meant to start a fun discussion and it seems to have ballooned into this....thing! lol Anyway, I have enjoyed the posts and still do agree with the Hen being absolute swill, but again, my humble opinion...

Tap & Table in Emmaus????

I just saw this place as well....it sounds like a dream come true...I cannot wait to go. Some of the beers they listed are just amazing...it's about time we get a place like this!!

Tour of Brewery? (DC and surrounding)

I'm from the Lehigh Valley and yes Brew Works is great, they also have an allentown location...I strongly advise getting to Yuengling when in the area, they are America's Oldest brewery, very interesting place.
