Thoughts on South Beach Wine and Food Festival 2010?

Wow, I had a great time! the key is to get there early and hit all your favorite booths first. i guess it also depends on your expectations, I would never expect to taste all 27 burgers, so I narrow it down to the top chefs there, and also eliminate any local places that I know I don't like. As for raw burgers, it's a matter of taste, I found some over cooked, some under, some just right. The whole point is to find your favorite burger and vote for it. No one ever said that ALL the burgers would be great or even good. I found several that were very good, including the winners B Spot, and Michael's Genuine. Also really liked Spike's burger and Blackberry farms. I heard that Morimoto's was good, but I was just too full to try it.

Sugarcane

We tried it for the first time last night, and I'd say it's a very good addition to Miami's dinning scene. It has great atmosphere, with a beautiful inside/outside bar. Service was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Standout items were the burrata with golden beets, and the roasted cauliflower with bagna cauda sauce. Everyone's been raving about the whole roasted chicken, so I ordered one, and although it was excellently prepared, I believe it was a commercial chicken, so it didn't have that yummy chickeny flavor that you get with heritage breeds. Curious to see what everyone else thinks!

Sakaya Kitchen - Midtown Miami

We tried it Sunday night, and generally really liked it. My only complaint was that most things were too sweet, especially the salad dressing. I really like the attention to using high quality ingredients. This is why their prices may be a little higher than other fast food concepts. I also don't mind eating out of the boxes at all, I think it's great that they are using highly degradable materials. We will definitely return.

Absolute best Organic market in Miami area!!

I've yet to see a true farmers market in our area. Mostly they sell some local and fill in everything else. this is exactly what DO does. I'm not sure why they wouldn't have Fl. avocados right now, I know that they have had them in the past. She may have had trouble getting them in for some reason. I know that they regularly get produce from Bee Heaven in Homestead, as well as other Fl. farms.. Right now we don't have much in season, if you check back later in the season you will see. Honestly I can't blame them, or any of our other farmer's markets,(some of them anyway). Who could make a living selling ONLY whats grown here? There is no reason that Florida can't grow a wider variety of products, including produce, dairy and meats. We have everything here, and the longest growing season in the country. I look forward to the day that I can get most of my food from Florida, but until that day we will all have to buy and eat food from elsewhere.

Unofficial Compilation of "Best" / "Top" Lists

Californian-- Michael's? Really? His whole focus is Local!

DOLORES, BUT YOU CAN CALL ME LOLITA

Very pretty decor, but menu has nothing original, and the food is just plain bad.

Best Organic Produce - Farmers Market in Miami area

This is not a farmers market, but www.deliciousorganics.com is a south Florida based website, where you can order organic produce and more for delivery. They are a family bussiness that serves the east coast of south Florida. Not everything they sell is local, but everything that is local is marked as such, and you can pretty much count on finding whatever is available locally at the time.

Sardinia, south beach

Who can say what their aim is. It's only that we, on this board, often compare these restaurants. In fact I have often said that Michy's, Michael's, and Sardinia are my top three in Miami. Hence, the comparison.

Sardinia, south beach

Just got back from dinner at Sardinia.I usually love this place, but I have to say, not everything is stellar. Service was ehh, nice enough, but not polished or particularly knowledgeable. Server read off her note pad, missed an entree, and generally had no helpful suggestions. Carasatu bread was stale. Salumi and cheese plates where wonderful as usual, and finally the salad that comes with it wasn't too salty. it was just right this time. We drank a wonderful earthy Campaccio Terabianca that was an amazing match with the parmaggiano. We had two different meatball dishes, the polpatine,(sp?) which were very good, and another meatball with pasta dish, I don't think these were made with veal. They were pretty dense and nothing about the dish was very exciting. The ravioli with goat cheese and spinnach, again, ehh. The rabbit ragu, however was solid. Does anyone know, are any of the pastas there homemade? We got the fennel, arrugula, radish salad again with entrees, but this time the parmigiano wasn't the same, it tasted like wax. Overall it was pretty mediocre, dissapointing because I always reccomend this place. While I still like this restaurant, especially for the salumi, it's just not anywhere near the caliber of Michy's, or Michael's.

MGFD rumor (Miami)

The problem with the "green" water system that Eisman has, is that it irradiates the water!
I for one, will have no problem with Schwartz opening something else. What's wrong with more great food?

Michael's Genuine report

just curious, why were you "not expecting greatness"?

Knock My Socks Off at Michaels Genuine

I agree the new short rib is amazing, but it's actually not braised, just slow roasted, and then grilled. It's the only place I've ever seen short rib not braised. It makes the flavor even richer, and it's still amazingly tender.

Miami food tour anyone?

also, check out www.paradisefarms.net, for the Dinner in Paradise series

Local blueberries & raspberries

wow, I wish this list was a bit more comprehensive. I know that we grow alot more than that.
It does give me more reason to appreciate living here. Our growing season is so much longer than the rest of the U.S.

Your favorite sandwiches in Miami, Miami Beach?

Heads up for all "low carbers" I've heard from a very reliable source that the epicure tuna salad has bread in it. That's what gives it sweetness. That being said, if if you don't mind the extra bread it certainly is delicious.

The cremoso is an excellent choice, but I also highly suggest the tangerine pot de creme, and the basil panacotta.
