Shirlington Restaurants
This restaurant is a terrific find for me. At lunch they offer a number of specials, such as the Endless Pasta Lunch which offers a choice of six pastas, five salads, and five desserts, all for $13. My friend chose the portobello ravioli, the caesar salad, and the lemon sorbet and pronounced all excellent. I chose the Quattro Stagioni "Morinello" with
tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, artichokes, ham, and olives, The toppings were generous and the crust was nice and crisp. Offered with the meal was crusty bread with a olive oil dipping sauce. Be careful not to eat too much of this delicious "appetizer" and spoil the rest of your excellent meal. The surroundings are comfortable, the staff friendly and attentive, and parking is available in a nearby garage (free). I will be going back often.

Why are there so few good bakeries
Bread? One place is Best Buns in Shirlington; another, Le Pain Quotidien in Clarendon and in Alexandria; and Firehook in Alexandria. I think my favorite is Le Pain. Oh, I forgot: Great Harvest near the Fern St Pizzaiola Cafe and Reunions.

Has anyone been there recently? Opinion?
RT's, Del Ray, Alexandria
Thanks everyone. I will be there the end of this month and will send my update then.

Has anyone been there lately? It has been years since I have and I'd like to know whether to take some folks there.
January 2008 Best and Worst for DC Restaurant Week
Thanks for updating this. It has been too long.
The Red Parrot
Bad news -- yesterday I was registering voters in the Hybla Valley Center and noticed a truck in front of the Red Parrot. I called on my cell (couldn't leave my table) and there was no answer. Later, I saw a group approach the restaurant for lunch and not enter, leaving with curious expressions on their faces. It seems it has closed.
Mongolian/ Korean BBQ/ Self-cook Places?
The only place I am aware of that serves Mongolian BBQ is Tony Cheng's in China Town near the Verizon Center. It is not terrific but certainly tasty enough and the children would probably like it. It is at 619 H St NW, Washington, DC - (202) 842-8669. (There is a BD'S Mongolian Barbeque - www.gomongo.com, 7201 Wisconsin Ave, Bethesda, MD - (301) 657-1080 but I know nothing about it.)
Best restaurant with chocolate desserts
Thanks everyone. I sent your comments to my son-in-law and he has already made reservations for Filomena. Of course, we are open to any other suggestions :)

Best restaurant with chocolate desserts
Do you have suggestions for a really nice restaurant in D.C. that preferably has awesome chocolate desserts to which my visiting son-in-law could take my daughter on their anniversary?
Villa d'Este, Alexandria, VA
Thank you for your review. I will avoid it, as I have for at least 15 years. Just wondered.

After a search of our Board, I have not found any reviews of this restaurant on St. Asaph at Montgomery. Has anyone tried it?

The Red Parrot
We tried this out and were generally pleased. The service was excellent. The decorations are particularly nice for Route 1. The food was variously good and not-so-good. I am a long time fan of green papaya salad and this was not up to my standards: no small dried shrimp, little lime flavor, no fish sauce flavor, not at all spicy -- you get the picture. The dumplings were very good, as were the soups. We are happy to return and hope for an improved green papaya salad. And I forgot to ask about the Singapore Chili Crab :(
The Red Parrot
Thanks for the review. I will give it a try -- and ask if they have Singamore Chili Crab :)

Has anyone been to The Red Parrot Asian Cafe in the old Hybla Valley Shopping Center (the new Mt Vernon Shopping Center) on Richmond Highway? What did you think?

I will be staying with a friend in Austin (78728) who is not a foodie. I wonder if I can be given guidance on places in and nearby her area?

HAWAIIAN IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA
Agreed. Since the demise of Honolulu for interchanges for the Beltway years ago, I know of nothing Hawaiian in the Metro Area.

Denver
Actually, this is the first time I have been on the SW Board so the other Barb is not me. And, yes, I am looking for places near the Tech Center, although will cab for perfection! I have been checking the dates so won't go anywhere mentioned in 2002 :) DC Chowhounder, Barb

Thanks. I will be at the Hyatt Regency Tech Center on Tufts. I like most food but especially good food from any country.

I leave for Denver Friday and cannot find any chowhound site for Denver. Do you chowhounders have any recommendations for Denver? Good food is the most important, of almost any kind.
Thanks,

We like most foods, although seafood, all asian, french, and italian are among our favorites. As I said, quality is our priority, ambiance not so much, although nice,

There are four of us coming in July with a place on Christopher St and seeking good places to eat lunch and dinner. Good food is our first priority with proximity next. Thanks.
Old Town or vicinity lunch recs for today
Eve's is open for lunch and has a fairly inexpensive one in the bar. From a small but adequate menu including wine you pick two items for $14.00. Good deal.
Charleston
Tricia, one of my favorite places for just hanging out is Red's Ice House. I had a spicy shrimp dish there once and cannot remember its name. Do you know it?
