Pollo al Carbon in San Antonio?
seriously consider the drive to San Marcos - I'm in Cibolo and it's an every 2 week trip at least. The bad thing is, you won't want pollo loco anymore [I'd rather have HEB's honey jalapeno roasted chicken than pollo loco anymore....at least for the drive]
Pollo al Carbon in San Antonio?
we drive to San Marcos for El Regio's - I wish I could tell you the exit, but it's just south of the river in the back of a Shell station on the west side of 35. Originally an Austin hole in the wall kind of place ...and IMO, worth the drive there to get it!
Budget dining in DC?
I've been watching the board here for a few days and have seen some good ideas - but could use some help - I'm flying in 20th - 24th from San Antonio to meet my sister from Alabama [free trip except food] and am wondering about decent/good food at good prices around the normal tourist areas - we'll be doing Metro, memorials/Smithsonian thing and walking a lot! We're staying at the Gaylord and it looks pricey! Not likely to have computer access, so I plan to print off pages, maps/directions of ideas from here to take along. We'll likely splurge along the line but 4 days of splurging can get pricey!
The peruvian chicken is definitely on my list if someone can point me to a location and I'd love to introduce her to pho [seriously living in the country without a lot of access!]. Other ideas would be appetizers/salads and light meals. I really wanted to give Les Halles a try [cause I'm in a fantasy world where Anthony Bourdain actually WOULD be there....] but the older reviews I've read on here were not favorable and wondering if anyone had been back recently and found it improved.
I'm looking forward to visiting DC again, it's been a long time!
TIA

San Antonio/ Riverwalk - Final Four Weekend help!
the best thing to eat at El Mercado {IMO} is when the street vendors are there! asada and gorditas are my favorites. I don't care for Mi Tierra and La Margarita...but then I prefer the hole in the wall places in the neighborhoods! Last months Southern Living did a San Antonio review and they mentioned Mi Tierra if you are going for the tourist stuff...but a little place - I wish I could remember the name but we go there all the time in the summer - it started out as a little fruit cup stand [YUM, fresh mangoes pineapple, coconut, strawberries etc, sprinkled with lime juice, salt, and a little chili and fresh aqua fresca - melon, cantaloupe, or pineapple; one side of the building is the fruit stand and the other side has tacos and plates - we make the trip at least twice a month from Cibolo for the fruit and aquas -
HA! I found my Southern LIving....Los Valles Fruits and Foods at 3915 Nogalitos
Live Oak vs San Antonio, Tx
I found out this week that there is a farmers market at Milberger's nursery parking lot on 1604 [and O'connor I think]. I found it at this site - http://www.localharvest.org/ and it looks like there is a good grower only market in New Braunfels and Sequin. There are several in San Antonio according to this site: http://www.picktexas.com/farm_market/santon.htm but I can't comment on any of them yet!
HollyDolly, the new place by Bellacinos is Thai - Siam something...we went twice last week, loved it the first time - Thai fried rice awesome, second time, it had curry in it and wasn't as good. I had the beef salad [never will know the correct name] and I loved it. Second time I had a curry and was really dissappointed in it, probably just a bad choice, but I was in an experimental mood...
the Thai rolls - not great but the appetizer fried cruncy egg omelet filled with fresh bean sprouts and ground, seasoned pork OMG it was tasty! Finally we're getting some good food in Schertz/Cibolo area. Oh and I just saw in Schertz Tales - we're getting a new library YEAH!!!
