Anyone know of any Artisan Bread making classes ?

Another option north of Boston is Stone Turtle Baking and Cooking School in Lyman, Maine.

http://www.stoneturtlebaking.com/

Most of their classes are full day classes. I took the pizza making class last fall and thought it was great! I really learned a lot and plan to take some of their other bread making classes in the spring or fall.

Christmas in Ogunquit?

Thanks for reporting back. I can't comment on your OOB and Portland choices, but Stonewall Kitchen, Mike's and Cornerstone are good choices ... particularly at this time of the year when the pickings are certainly a bit slim.

New Hampshire Inn for Thanksgiving

Thank you, Hummingbird. Definitely looking to make it a little get away and stay there. The area doesn't really matter too much.

Bedford Village Inn was one that I had thought of as well.

New Hampshire Inn for Thanksgiving

Any suggestions for an inn in NH serving Thanksgiving dinner? Our original Thanksgiving plans have changed and we're thinking about getting away for an overnight or couple of days. An inn serving dinner would be ideal. Another option would be a B & B near a nice restaurant serving Thanksgiving dinner. Thanks for your help!

Kennebunkport/Wells/Ogunquit Restaurants open in Winter

You'll find quite a few restaurants open in the Wells/Ogunquit area in November. Some of these stay open at least until Ogunquit's Christmas by the Sea festivities in December and some are open year-round.

Just off the top of my head, in Ogunquit:

Jackies, Too - in Perkins Cove
That Place
Roost
Five-0 Shore Road
Front Porch
Bessie's
Old Village Inn
Angelina's
Pizza Napoli
Jonathan's
Post Road Tavern
Cornerstone

I'm sure there are others that I'm not thinking of.

In Wells, in addition to Billy's Chowder House, already mentioned:

Feile
Mike's Clam Shack
East
Boon Island Ales
Varano's

Again, I know I'm missing some.

Not an expert about what stays open in Kennebunkport, but I'm pretty sure Allison's, Hurricane's, and Federal Jack will be open in November -- as well as a number of others.

Enjoy - the area is great at any time of the year and you'll be surprised at how quiet it is compared to Summer. No traffic!!!

Want to get the kids psyched

In Ogunquit, there's a wonderful bakery and great candy store a few doors from each other on Main St. right in the center of town.

Ogunquit winter dining options

Cornerstone Artisinal Pizza will be open on the 23rd. There's actually more information on their FB page than their website

I hope you and your family are doing OK.

Anniversary Dinner Near Ogunquit

Of the options you list, I'd agree that On the Marsh is the best choice for an anniversary dinner. When you make a reservation, tell them it is your anniversary and they will make it a special evening. We went for our anniversary in July and were given a lovely table and glasses of champagne when we were seated. Five-O would be my backup.

Portland's Fore Street Restaurant

Thank you for a wonderful review. It's been about 2 years since I've been to Fore Street; you made me want to get back there very soon. What you describe is exactly what an upscale dining experience should be.

Ogunquit Maine birthday dinner

For cocktails, my favorites are: Five-0 Shore Road, Front Porch, Prime, Cornerstone Pizza, MC Perkins Cove is fine (it's acutally one of our favorite restaurants), but I was disappointed with an Old Fashion I had there last winter. Oh! Also, Barnicle Billy's for their rum punch. We usually like to sit at the bar at Barnicle Billy's etc.

We've never had fried seafood at Jake's. Mike's is always decent.

We haven't had the $20 lobster bake at Amore, but did get lobsters at the Perkins Cove Lobster Pound, across the street. They steamed them for us. My understanding is that Amore gets the lobsters from them. The lobsters we had last week were delicious - very fresh, tender, and sweet.

Trader Joes coming to Newington NH

We were at that shopping center today. Big sign in front of the former Pet Quarters store next to Michael's Crafts - Coming Soon - Trader Joe's. Major construction going on. It's nice to see the progress!

Where to lunch in southern Maine with Great Grandma?

No offense taken, MaineAppetite!. We put up with the traffic for 2 months out of the year and let out a huge sigh of relief come Labor Day. Do post back and let us know where you decide to go for your special lunch. I had not seen Mainegal's reply when I posted, but I'm glad she confrimed that the Colony serves lunch.

Where to lunch in southern Maine with Great Grandma?

I'm not sure if they serve lunch, but the Colony Hotel or the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport might meet your needs.

I'm sorry, though, that you avoid our area like the plague. Even though it can be a little hectic in the summer, it is quite lovely and a great place to live year-round.

Cold River Vodka

One suggestion -- a number of restaurants/bars stock it. Why not order a cocktail with it and try it out that way before investing in a bottle? I'm not a huge vodka drinker, but we did buy a bottle and I will enjoy an occasional Cold River cocktail. I've only ever had the regular.

When Pigs Fly Pizzeria In Kittery-- any thoughts?

I'm eager to know if any hounds have tried the new pizzeria. The reviews on TripAdvisor are mostly positive, but I've learned to take TA reviews -- both positive and negative with a grain of salt.. Unfortunately, their menu is not available on their website.

Thanks!

Need recs for coming Wine Club trip to Ogunquit

We live in Ogunquit and generally buy our seafood at York Lobster and Seafood on Route 1 in York. They have a great selection and it's always very fresh. Lately, though, Hannaford's has had a better selection of seafood than they usually do. For a special meal, though, I'd still prefer York Lobster and Seafood.

For restaurants with good wine lists, you might look at MC Perkins Cove, Five-0 Shore Road, and Katie's - all in Ogunquit.

I'd recommend Katie's on Shore Road. The atmosphere is casual, but lovely and the food is creative -- and very good!

North of Boston, please help: clean, child-free restaurant?

What about the restaurant at the Stone Hedge Inn in Tyngsboro. I know it's changed hands and the restaurant has changed since the last time we were there - maybe 8 or 9 years go, but it doesn't seem to me like the type of restaurant that would attract families with children. I know we had late afternoon tea there and it was lovely.
